Brief description of your nation's history: The origins of the kingdom date back to the days when Lothar I made an alliance with the danish vikings Rorik and Harald. The two raided Frisia, that was a territory of Louis the Pious, Lothar's father and enemy, weakening him. When Louis died, Lothar granted lands in Frisia to the two danish brothers, having them protect the area from his siblings, Louis the German and Charles the Bald.
When the Treaty of Verdun was signed, though, Rorik and Harald had no more use for Lothar, and thus, he condemned the two for treason and imprisoned the actually innocent brothers. Harald died as a prisoner, but Rorik managed to escape. Gathering a force of danes, he raided the northern coast of Lothar's territory, eventually reconquering his lands in Frisia.

Rorik crowned himself the king of Dorestad, giving start to a long dynasty that would maintain the kingdom as a proud nation and one of the last bastions of germanic paganism in Europe, conquering the rest of the Netherlands and Belgium and resisting to the expansion of the Holy Roman Empire.
Brief description of your nation's economy: Mainly based on agriculture, with large farmlands covering much of the kingdom's territory. The cities keep as the commercial centers of the nation, where fairs are hosted and both manufactured and farm products are sold, and many services are offered. Crafts are usually passed from father to son. The kingdom isn't especially industrialized.
Brief description of your nation's government: The kingdom is divided in many provinces, controlled by local landlords who sworn loyalty to the king, while Dorestad is directly ruled by the king. He is also the religious leader, taking the role of High Goði. His word is the law.
Brief description of your nation's populace: Tough and hardworking, loyal to their ancient traditions and religion. Strongly nationalist, will the defend the kingdom at any costs. They believe in the concept of honor and "an eye for an eye".

Medieval warfare is strongly in the favor of the defender. Plus, my five thousand heavy infantry are highly trained soldiers, not fodder like you would field. Not entirely sure on the level of training the Genoans would have.
