With America and China having destroyed each other in a quick, dirty nuclear war, the world's economy crashed and the Year of Death (as 2014 came to be known) caused the loss of life to be near uncountable. Following the fall of the United States of America and the People's Republic of China, the UN, EU, and NATO collapsed and Europe stands on the brink of another continental war not seen since World War II. The Second Age of Imperialism has come to the world, with many nations (particularly those reliant on the economic strength of America or China) collapsing in anarchy. Only a few remain strong.

You are one of those few. Will you build an Empire to rival that of the old days, eclipsing all your neighbors? Will you become a recluse, hiding from the world? What you decide determines the way the world will become.

RULES:

1) No Godmodding. If you do, you get a strike. If you get another, you're kicked out and any territory you gained will be split evenly between all the other players. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
2) Decent posts please. No one-liners
3) Moving an army from point A to point B takes longer than a post, unless the distance involved is negligible.
4) While nuclear weapons are under the control of some nations, no NUKING!

I'm leaving alliances to be entirely created by the players.
Invasions, not so much. The players have to have a reasonable point on why they need to invade. If they don't have one, they'll get striked.

These kinds of starting scenarios often lead to mountains of boring diplomacy before any real rolepalying starts.
Can't we say that Romania attacked Hungary (not to terribly hard to imagine) and then go from there? That way we already have a conflict to use as a diplomatic focal point.

Backstory:

In order to prevent an all out annihilation of Ireland again (looking at you, Geoff) I have decided to make a few changes if that is okay with everyone else.

The US and the EU were a large source of income for Ireland, they provided a lot of loan money and 98% of the export market. So when that stopped after the war broke out, Ireland's economy crashed again. Hard. Like poverty and starvation crashed. The failure of the Dáil to handle the situation led to the resurection and rise of the IRA, with thousands joining as a way of feeding themselves and venting their anger, leading a rebellion. The leader of the reformed IRA (CG O'Driscoll) installed a military government under the circumstances of world conflict - making himself sole ruler along with military command. Regular Army officers were inducted and trained the IRA in conventional warfare, making them a proper standing force.

Socially, the new military government sought to create a cult of personality. Irish nationalism was encouraged and foreigners blamed for the state of living. Farmers were encouraged to switch to crops instead of the beef based agri to encourage self-sustainability. Compulsory military service introduced and public work schemes introduced to improve infrastructure, create factories and eliminate unemployment and poverty. Much like Nazi Germany after WW1 but without all the Jew hating and secret police.

I'm counting on the fact that Britain wouldn't take interest in Irish affair for two main reasons, 1; there isn't a vast array of natural resources and 2; it would be a drain on British forces that would otherwise be used to deal with bigger threats.

I know this isn't possible in two years but for the sake of survival I'm counting on you guys to at least let me start with the rebellion over and reconstruction beginning.
