All along the Irish coast line, hundreds of fishing boats patrol the waters. A regular occurrence on any given day of the year, today however was different.

On board one such ship, Petty Officer Mark O'Brien was helping construct the countries latest defense in light of the European troubles - a strategic wall of sea mines along vulnerable stretches of coastlines. In order to prevent suspicion, The Minister of Defense had gone to great lengths in order to haul together a few hundred fishing boats for this operation.

"Alright. One - Two - Three!"

The two men hauled the steel contraption over the side of the boat, then watched it descend into the darkness. The process was repeated over and over again as the boat slowly motored along - anchor went over first, then the mine. Sweeping mines were also thrown in the mix, along with several torpedo mines and others every few hundred meters.

This process was being carried out on all sides. From Dundalk to Roslare, Redcastle to Ballyshannon and Wesport to Dingle. Thousands of highly explosive death traps floated around in the water - hopefully keeping the shores a bit safer.

Word came in of the English advances. It was unprepared however. The border between the North and The Republic was set along a varrying array of hills and lowlands. Along the Monoghan, Leitrim and Louth borders, the Western and Eastern Brigades had secured positions in the hills with several infantry divisions backed up by units of the Artillery and Cavalry Corps. Almost 100 Panhard armoured vehicles had been re-commissioned into service, along with the 9,000 reserve troops that were brought in to fight full time.

With blissful arrogance the British heavy divisions headed along the roads for Dublins. The natural path of the roads along the coast and between the hills set the British up right in the firing range of Irish artillery positions. The mustered force of 5,000 troops fought back with heavy resistance.

Marching west, seperated from their support, the 8,000 British troops were met with divisions of the Western Brigade along the Donegal border with Derry, Tyrone and Fermanagh. 4,500 troops of mixed Permanent and Reserve forces were supported by elements of the artillery and cavalry corps. With hill positions secured again, secured ambush positions along the major and minor national routes were established in order to maximize enemy casualties.

In Munster, the Southern Brigade were mustering their defenses. They had been handed the extra burden of Wicklow from the Eastern Brigade as their resources were drawn to the border conflict. The Wicklow mountains above Dublin were secured with close to 50 artillery pieces and the southern shoreline was manned with re-commissioned coastal guns.

Coming under fire, the exposed British troops heading to Dublin attempt to storm into the Irish position in the hills, in an attempt to get out of the artillery's way. The tanks plowed up towards the Irish as the infantry attempted to use the tanks as shields and then attack the enemy position. Major, but not crippling, losses are taken from artillery. The British mobile artillery present immediately opens fire on the Irish guns.

The troops caught in the west by the other Irish forces are surrendered immediately. They have chance of victory and choose life over dying in vain.

Italy almost simultaneously complied.

France is taking the opportunity that San Marino has presented. With 14'000 troops on board, the French Empirical Navy sails from Corsica to Sardinia, and storms the beaches. In Northern France, a naval blockade has blocked any British attempts to cross the channel to help Belgium or the Netherlands. 112'00 troops enter Belgium and sieges Brussels. 78'500 of those troops then move on to East Belgium, and prepare to invade the Netherlands.

The Royal Navy feels confident that she can break the French Blockade, but she will restrain from doing so until it is needed. However, two fleets, the Atlantic and North Sea fleets, are being formed, with the intent of confining the French Navy to the English Channel.
An additional 13,000 infantry are deployed to Ireland, but these are paratroopers. They will drop into Dublin and try to take the city. Moderate losses from Irish antiarcraft guns are expected.

Unable to aid the Belgians, and with the Dutch about to be assaulted, the government sends the following message to Austria:

The French Empire is under threat. The UK has threatened us. We request that you help France in a Naval Blockade that will stop any invasion. This is the plan:

Russia, Germany, Sweden: Use Naval Forces to blockade the channel via the North Sea. Germany, you can also help by sending troops to what was formerly North Belgium.
San Marino: Send a Naval Blockade to stop any naval forces from Gibraltar.
Ireland: Use your current war as a distraction. We will be sending 13'000 troops to assist you.

Reply with your intentions,

As the British forces surrender, they are disarmed and sent to various make-shift detainment camps across the country, with no more than 1,000 British soldiers allowed to converge in any one camp and they are supervised by a section of the Reserve army. The remaining forces were spread across to reinforce units along the border and to the East.

Along the route from Belfast to Dublin the British were putting up more of a fight. With the positions along the hills secure, attacks were being kept at bay but at high cost. When British artillery guns began firing back, the Irish troops were ordered on the offensive. A spearhead attack was headed by a squadron of Panhard light-armoured vehicles. They were vulnerable to the British challenger tanks because of theri light armour, but the Panhard's 90mm cannon was capable of dealing out great damage.

The offensive was done under the cover of a barrage of fire from Javelin SAM missiles and heavy small arms fire. A rush of 1,200 troops ran down hill after the firing Panhards, aiming to storm and take out British troops. The combination of British and Irish artillery concentrated had a profound effect on both sides.

The Air Corps was admittedly not the most inspiring wing of the Irish military, and they had been grounded for operations for fear of unnecessary losses. However reports were coming in of no air units in combat zones whatsoever.

Dublin Airport

"Sir, we're not get any reports of British air units operating in the area. It appears they have stormed without air support."

"They will likely come in the next hours. We can hurt them before they get here. Scramble the PC-9s, but I want them back on ground in 30 minutes time."

"Yes, sir!"

The PC-9 was a small jet usually used for training pilots. As the Air Corps had no operational fighter aircraft they had to make do with what was available. In 2012 the PC-9s had been equipped with rocket pods and machine guns, thus giving them low-lever air support capabilites for ground troops. Five jets in all were launched from Dublin airport and were over the battle zone in a matter of minutes. Fly-by after fly-by was preformed launching rockets and unleashing the machine guns on the advancing British.

An Air Attack Group of forty Lockheed-X35s from South Wales is scrambled to meet the Irish planes. It is doubtful that they will make it in time, but once they arrive, they will provide a formidable addition to the ground attack forces.

On the ground, the infantry and tanks ripped through the Irish infantry with a wall of lead, hoping to stop the charge there. Serious losses, mostly the infantry, were taken from the missiles. The artillery continued to bombard the Irish guns. Five British tanks were lost to the Panhards before they turned their attention to the Irish Armour and opened heavy fire on the hopelessly ill-armoured Irish tanks.

With the safe-time limit approaching the PC-9s were ordered back to the runway. As they touched down on Dublin AIrport the anti-aircraft guns were rolled out and battle stations manned. An influx of paratroopers was inbound to march on Dublin soon.

The divisions from 2nd Brigade that had moved into the Wicklow mountains were transported down into the city. The British paratroopers floated in on grand parachutes - extra big targets. Small arms and anti-aircraft fire was unleashed upwards in attempt to cause as many casualties as possible.

On the north-east front the Irish were losing ground. As they retreated back over the hills from the advancing British, the reinforcing units that had came from the Western front were arriving. Approximately 3,000 extra troops were there to support along with their supporting units of artillery and cavalry. Among the artillery elements were several 105mm howitzer pieces and several self-propelled howitzers. The cavalry came in the form of almost twenty more Panhards and MOWAG APC with mounted cannons, machine guns and AGLs.

The paratroopers take heavy casualties. Of the 13,000 that were sent, only 7,500 landed sucessfully. Of those, around 1,000 land directly in Irish Army positions and are shot immendiately. The ones which survive immediately set about breaking into Irish buildings and fortifying them, forcing the Irish Army to either let them be or destroy their own buildings to get the British out. Hundreds of tiny pockets of British resistance take hold across the city.

The British planes arrive on the battlefield North of Dublin and begin strafing the Irish positions. This is accompanied by a renewed charge over the hills into the Irish artillery. Splitting their forces, 120 tanks and IFVs, accompanied by 1,500 infantry, charge at the newer reinforcements, where the rest of the troops charge at the remaining original resistance.

The first San Marinoese bombers took of from Sicily. Their mission: soften the British blockade around France. Their actions were met with heavy resistance, as the ships fired on the aircraft. Of the 8500 bombers that began the attack, 6500 were shot down. Of those, a few were able to coast far enough to make it to London. One even (presumed accidentally) struck Big Ben. Overall, San Marino was able to make a small hole in Brittish defends. It wasn't much, but it was enough.

In Dublin the forces were being fought and forced out by the dropping British. Building in random locations everywhere began fortified positions and the Irish were quickly outnumbered. The fighting was still bitter however, with heavy civilian casualties. Artillery units in the mountains were now locked in on the city and an evacuation of troops and civilians was called for.

Further north of the city the Irish whittling Irish numbers were becoming overwhelmed fast. The Western and Eastern Brigades were coming close to becoming completely eradicated. The tiny remaining number of APCs and Panhards were almost useless now, and the troops were burying themselves into defensive positions.

In the detainment camps the executions began. The British pamphlets ordering a rebellion caused widespread unrest with all of the inmates attempting to overthrow the guards. This was swiftly met with brute force however and within minutes thousands of men had been shot dead.

The split forces in the valley combine and spill over into the remaining Irish resistance. The Irish artillery is within 500 feet of the current British posistion. British artillery units pull out from the battle to head south, to Dublin, to maintain a presence there. The resistance in Dublin has been very sucessful, with the Irish having retreated from the city, so the paratroopers consolidate in the far eastern sector of the city. The plan is to get the hell out of there to evade an Irish artillery strike.

British troops intended to defend Belgium now move south, to prepare to mount a defense against France. The majority of the British fleet sits inside the English Channel, slowly forcing the French Navy into a smaller and smaller section of ocean near the mouth of the Seine. The bombers from San Marino were easily repelled, although the top spire of Big Ben was shaved off by a burning plane which later crashed into a suburban area. Several buildings across London were damaged. 127 Londoners died.

In response, the government has ordered that as soon as the French Fleet has been destroyed, the Royal Navy will blockade the entire Medditerranean Sea at Aden, to try to cut off valuable supplies of oil from the south from reaching France or San Marino, hopefully causing their war machines to grind to a halt.
