WW2 though, that's crap. Yes, they were outmaneuvered, panicked and surrendered. Yes, there was a resistance movement. But there were also more Nazi collaborators in France then there were resistance fighters. The entire story of the french resistance crippling the Germans was generally made up after the war by the french government as a way of raising French morale.
Incidentally, the reason they held on so strongly to Vietnam and Algeria, despite the horrific violence, was because they did not want to be seen as defeatist people who surrender.
Ehh didn't workout so well for them, and now their trying to start some crap in Mali
