While the Kongo has a draft reserved for wartime purposes, the current standing army is volunteer/officer based. Due to Kongo's close relationship with the Union of American States, the Kongo military is highly trained. Each branch of the military maintains its own smaller elite force. All elements of the Military generally answer to the elected government, but recongizie the supreme authority of the Mulopwe. The King's Guard, however, is under the direct supervision of the Mulopwe (King/Emperor) of the Kongo.
Backstory: The Eighty million people that comprise the United Kongo Empire have a long and culturally rich history.
The country began with Bantu-speaking Neolithic and then iron-producing villagers added to and displaced the indigenous Pygmy populations (also known in the region as the "Batwa" or "Twa") into secondary parts of the country. Subsequent migrations from the Darfur and Kordofan regions of Sudan into the north-east, as well as East Africans migrating into the eastern Congo, added to the mix of ethnic groups. The Bantu-speakers imported a mixed economy made up of agriculture, small-stock raising, fishing, fruit collecting, hunting and arboriculture before 3,500 BC; iron-working techniques, possibly from West Africa, a much later addition. The villagers established the Bantu language family as the primary set of tongues for the Congolese.
The process in which the original society transitioned into the Kingdom of the Kongo was gradual and complex. This transition ran without interruption, with several distinct societies developing out of the native culture prior to the genesis of the Luba. Each of these kingdoms became very wealthy due mainly to the region's mineral wealth, especially in ores. The civilization began to develop and implement iron and copper technology, in addition to trading in ivory and other goods. The Luba established a strong commercial demand for their metal technologies and were able to institute a long-range commercial net (the business connections extended over 1,500 kilometres (930 miles), all the way to the Indian Ocean). By the 16th century, the kingdom had an established strong central government based on chieftainship.
That all changed when Europeans arrived in the 17th century, seeking slaves and mineral wealth. In the ensuing war, the Luba kingdom was pushed back from the coast and fragmented. The Europeans consolidated their holdings, which included large swaths of Luba Kingdom land. In order to protect their holdings, many were consolidated into one jointly managed state known, ironically, as the Free African State. In the Free State, colonists brutalized the local population to produce rubber, gold and other minerals. The sale of these goods made a fortune for the Europeans. To enforce the rubber quotas, the army, the Force Publique (FP), was called in. The Force Publique made the practice of cutting off the limbs of the natives as a means of enforcing rubber quotas a matter of policy; this practice was widespread. During the period of 1785–1808, millions of Congolese died as a consequence of exploitation and disease. In some areas the population declined dramatically; it has been estimated that sleeping sickness and smallpox killed nearly half the population in the areas surrounding the lower Congo River. A government commission later concluded that the population of the Congo had been "reduced by half" during this period, but determining precisely how many people died is impossible, as no accurate records exist.
The actions of the Free State's administration sparked international protests led by forigen reporters whose 1804 report on the Congo condemned the practice. In 1808, the European parliaments, despite initial reluctance, bowed to international pressure (especially that from Great Britain) and took over the Free State from their kings. Shortly after the action was taken, however, rivalries erupted between the various governments and the Free State's government began to fracture. Seizing the opportunity, the resurgent Kingdom of Luba launched an aggressive assault with the support of several international powers, overwhelming the fractured free state and pushing the Europeans out of the Kongo completely. The governing of the Kongo improved significantly and considerable economic and social progress was achieved. To preserve stability in the new Kingdom, which had nearly doubled in size, the Mulopwe (King) of the Luba Kingdom created the United Kongo Empire, which stands to this day.
In the 200 years since independence, the country has flourished extensively. Shortly after the Empire's founding, contact was made with the present-day Union of American States. Hundreds of scholars, missionaries, and political attaches arrived to make contact with the young nation. Since then, the Union has become one of the Kongo's largest trade partners, and the two states have a strong relationship. Extensive mineral deposits have made the Kongo wealthy, leading to a burgeoning manufacturing and textile industry, and a massive automobile industry as well. Today the Kongo is an independent nation, and global power, capable of projecting its economic influence around the world. The Kongo government is a constitutional monarchy, where the Mulopwe still holds majority of the power and influence, but shares it with elected representatives from the Kongo people.

Wait.
Im not oppressive.
Ask the people.
They will totally tell you that I am not oppressive and that the divine ruler is just.![]()
No,seriously,I may be slightly oppressive,as I don't have elections, but I do actually grant civil liberties, larger than in many places (government keeps out of marriage, fully keeps out of relation,as long as between consenting adults, social welfare provided, healthcare provided).
And,well, sometimes even oppressive states aren't seen as such,if you can gather the people and convince them (Including of course only the people of the state. But who cares about the people outside, right?)
Also, what the heck has happened here?
