Having said this, a few cannons, well drilled strong men, and some grapeshot could really pack a punch with a lot of soldiers trying to rush a narrow entrance.

Canister shot is more effective- it turns the cannon into a giant shotgun.

Only problem with small mercantile nations is sometimes your not taken serious or you get blocked from getting colonies.

Compare the Dutch to The Hanseatic Republic of Livonia though and the Dutch are in a way better condition. The Dutch wasn't in a position to be blocked as easily as Livonia and even then the Dutch wasn't always taken seriously.

Glad you want to join, many people have already applied for china but have been rejected because China would have too large land control and too large of a population
I would suggest relinquishing control of the Himalayas and Manchuria so that you will be accepted

True, how is the Livonian navy and economy?
Their best bet is urbanizing most of their European territory with a powerful border guard and large industrialization, after that invest 70% of military spending in the Navy so they can dominate and put the rest of spending into a colonial vanguard
Threaten Sweden with another eastern European nation`s support if necessary

Plus Its not like a Oppressing Dictatorship is happening in the France and its easy to blame the revolution that beheaded people in the streets for all the problems that might exist with France. Don't worry should enough those revolution ideals will be erased from your mind when your back and united underneath the banner of the Greater French Empire.

Which means nether side's people are likely to join the other, so as a result we would either be invaded(which due to help and my industrialized would be incredibly difficult) or we would just grow apart as two separate nations, which I see as the most probable outcome.

That's quite alright with me! As long as I keep the eastern seaboard, and most of China [especially the south], and the areas of the ancient capital cities during various eras.

Edit: You mentioned population concerns - what are your limits? Han China had a population of over fifty million, nearly sixty, in the second century BCE, if memory serves.

For me its just a role play but you have to think France has been divided for what a few months? It's cool, it's cool, I'm in it for the fun of it also, but my first post was me building up my government with an industrialised system in Grenoble, Bordeaux, and Marseilles. So I do have a sturdy defence becoming established. So the odds are we'll have a stand-off situation, and both of us will just have to learn to come to terms with each-other.
