I'd prefer to skip to 1900, carve out some nations from the people who ain't here and start with the revolt of North American colonies.

Well, I think we'd be able to keep more people with that large of a timeskip, plus with the newly carved out nations, we may be able to acquire more people. Plus, 1860 would be a slightly higher tech thread, 1900 would be much higher tech, and thus, we'd have more inventions.

And don't forget Prussian Needle Guns... 12 rounds per minute, accurate at up to 600 meters, the grandfather of the bolt-action rifle.
