Two things I noticed while reading about New York:
"The legislature in Albany carries on a 200-year tradition of talking 'very loud, and very fast, and nobody listens to anybody else, with the result that nothing ever gets done.'"
"Nowadays, nobody really remembers that anything outside of New York City exists ('not like there's anything up there anyway' but say that to an Upstate dweller at your own risk)"
