Fellate your mind. Protagonise that companion.Nationstatelandsville wrote:Personally, though I can't guarantee results because I am unfamiliar with the work, it sounds like an Ahab/Watson kind of situation would work.
To elaborate - tell the story from the protagonist's point-of-view, but focusing on the companion. No one gives a fuck what Watson does, but telling the story from his viewpoint lets us see Holmes as others do and keeps him mysterious.
That is, unless you don't want the companion to be mysterious, at which point... well, I would have to read it, really. But don't force yourself into doing something because of any plans, or on my word.
The problem is that a deep insight into the protagonist's personal perceptions, preconceptions, thoughts and feelings is a central part of the writing, and I can't help but feel that this secondary character, thought he would make a terrific main character, also serves as a great companion. But I think I'll figure something out.
Thanks, guys.
Now...to the IC!
There's nothing wrong with an Ensemble Darkhorse.
Quite a bit of the best characters in fiction were not the protagonists.
