Here's the thing - British English only pretends to be the real English. The fancy-pants assholes, their English is just as "impure" as ours.

They just went around and kicked a bunch of brown people's asses until they nodded along with their Johnsonian tyranny.

So, you see, Oliver does not speak American English because he lives in America. He speaks American English because freedom.

I have a pretty good grasp of American terminology and vocabulary, even if I have a poor grasp of the American accent for more than five or ten minutes at a time.

LA = world. True facts. *nod*

I'm amused by this part of the "We All Live in America" page.

One American journalist interviewing a black British Olympic athlete repeatedly asked how being "African-American" affected his outlook on his situation, despite his repeated (and, to the reporter, baffling) insistence that he's not American.

During the US healthcare debate, it was claimed that Stephen Hawking would not be alive under the UK's "socialist" healthcare system. This was slightly spoilt when Hawking pointed out that he was English and had spent most of his life in the UK, and the NHS was in fact responsible for him still being alive.

We're just really, really, really proud of our country. We love it so much we think that everyone else does too, and we assume that everyone was one of us, because who isn't? :P

People have asked if I'm British before.

Bear in mind - I speak exactly as I write. My voice is high and nasal, and my accent is nondescriptly Northeast American.

I noted something that had permanently changed in my vocabulary the other day when Erin mentioned it- I don't say "maths" anymore. I say "math". That's something very American in my vocabulary now.

I'll give the Brits this - "bloody" is just a fantastic curse, and I wish I could use it more often.

I've exhausted "fuck", you see.

I learned English in a Catholic school stacked by Brits, Yanks and Aussies. However, the dialect they taught was very proper and posh RP.

It was to the point that when I actually went to Britain, everyone gave me dirty looks because I sounded like a pretentious prick.

Well, they weren't wrong...

I could also hardly understand many of them myself because the accents were just so different.

From what I've gathered, the UK has looked any form of uniformity - linguistic, cultural, or governmental - in the eye, laughed in its face, and lit its car on fire.

For Night - rough draft of Korea.

Name: Korea
Leader: Woo Jean Lee
Flag:
Image

Composed of: present day North and South Korea
Language(s): Official language is Korean, many of them do speak English
Description:

“Korea?” you ask. “As in a singular nation, as in a unified Korea? But I thought that post-Korea War, the Korean peninsula was split into a North and a South Korea. Don’t the two countries freaking hate each other?”

And yes. You’d be right… all the way up to around 2026, when the two countries finally decided “you know what, screw this, being two separate countries is stupid, and life sucks for half of us, so let’s just become a unified country again”.

Rumors are abound with the story that a brown man, who called himself Khan, a woman, and a young man were seen outside the two leaders’ residences wearing nothing but a pair of shorts about a day prior to the countries coming together for peace talks that finally succeeded in coming together with a peace treaty.

Also, something about mechas. But again, unsubstantiated rumors.

Anyways…

The two countries came together in 2026, came up with a peace treaty that was ratified by both countries, and boom! The Koreas were not in a perpetual state of war anymore!

Of course, the terms of the peace treaty took down the DMZ, and it pretty much unified the countries together into one, to under what was formerly the South Korean government. This reunification of the two countries was to the joy of thousands of Koreans whose families have been separated by the DMZ for decades.

At the moment, North Korea’s going through a rapid revitalization, similar to what happened to East Berlin when the Berlin Wall finally came down back in 1989. Of course, it’s only been, what, about four years now?

Life has been improving in the former North Korea. People aren’t starving, they’re being overloaded with too much information after years of having too little of it, they’re quickly getting addicted to the Internet, they’re playing with electricity (light on, light off is a rather popular game with children right now), and they’re happier.

The former North Koreans do still involuntarily sprout out their praises to the former North Korean leader at least once a week or so. They’re still working on that.

In the former South Korea though? Everything is the same as it has always been, except now they have a larger market to sell their K-pop to. So much fucking K-pop now. Damn it.

Characters from here: n/a
Changes since magic was revealed:

North Korea, being the piece of shit it was, blocked information about magic and magitech for decades. When it was finally revealed when the two Koreas finally became one again, the North Korean people went nuts. Something about “oooh, pretty” and “oh my gods, I can’t believe this is magic” or something like that.

I mean, North Korea’s government knew about magitech. They used it to make sure that the North Koreans didn’t escape through the DMZ, for one thing. But they would have never told their people about it.

South Korea though… well, they too went apeshit, but in a totally different direction. As in “so fucking addicted to computers that they eventually had to come up with a medical condition for it complete with surgical treatments”.

And not in the good way either. South Koreans began to experiment with implanting magitech into their own bodies, sort of like mods but for human bodies, with varying rates of success. And they’ve improved on it since.

So now many South Koreans are walking Wi-fi hot spots, complete with an eye implant that served as a computer and hand controls so that they could play games even while running errands.

And oh yeah, ear implants so that they could listen to music all day long.

So basically, they’re walking iPhones.

South Koreans. *rolls eyes*

I get the feeling that Japan’s much worse.

Anyways, these treatments aren’t popular in former North Korea (yet), since a large amount of people find them weird. But the youth are experimenting with it a little, because hey, why not? After living for decades under a totalitarian government, honestly, I can’t blame them for wanting to try out new things.

I'm debating whether we should try to spend more time in Britain itself, what say you guys?

We'll have to do Syria, because I did promise Indi, but it might be a nice change of pace to just visit a quiet English or Scottish town.
