Not completely, most Mordor fortresses are in fact carved from mountains of black or just dark stone, with metal girders and ribs added on for support - Barad-dur is a perfect example, as is Dol Guldur.

I don't know about Barad-dur, but Dol Guldur was an elven fortress, so it wasn't build by Mordor

Perhaps, I more so just bent 'light-lovers' to the 'grey' by giving them good reasons to do so, to disillusion them from blindly following something which has only hurt them time and time again.

Also, Prusseuss, are you a fan of Warhammer Fantasy? I thought I recognized that pic you posted as a Druchii or some noble rank, but I wasn't sure.

Ah, my apologies, forgot Dol Guldur was originally elven. Barad-dur is mostly stone as far as I know, but much of the outer 'skin' is layers of black iron. Angband, if memory serves, and Utumno were both delved deeply into stone of mountains, the former actually having been a part of the Ere Engrin, yes?

Making fortresses entirely of iron would be impossible, and completely wasteful in terms of time and resources - even orce aren't quite that stupid!
