Sil Arion wrote:Just to notify you who are talking about the Great Spiders: they're not truly all that strong. Their true strength is speed, but other strong attributes are their carapaces, just slightly weaker than light orcish plate armor, and their clawed legs and massive pincers. Also, do note any elvish warrior worth their years is quite capable of killing one with fair ease, a dwarf with slightly more difficulty. According to the information I know, they're quite vulnerable to arrows, but that is offset by their ability to sprint faster than most horses, and the small fact they're basically all-terrain ancient attack vehicles. For the sake of realism, remember spiders birth from large gooey sacks filled with hundreds to thousands of eggs. Obviously, some don't survive the gestating process, while others are eaten by their siblings, or even eaten by or do eat their parents - such is the hardship of being a spider - and those egg sacks are quite vulnerable to extreme temperatures of hot and cold, especially flames and ice. Beware. Spiders like dark moist places to put their eggs in, and I'd assume a female pseudo-Shelob could place up to a few thousand in one sitting, though I know not how often they can do so. Perhaps, to offer more realism, the mother dies upon laying her eggs, and then her body is fed upon by her children - or perhaps even the children grow inside her own body and eat it from the inside out. I don't know.
As always, just some ideas I thought of to help with this whole 'spider-empire' thing.
