Back. The internet was down for me this morning and most of the afternoon.

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

Those fools at the local medical clinic drew my blood during my physical...so I drew theirs. Now my right arm is bandaged and feels like surgeon simulator whenever I bend my elbow.

Jonny test was okay, not good, but okay. It was no Dexter's Laboratory or Pinky and the Brain.

I just didn't like Johnny Test because it relied far too much on gross-out humor.

In any case, I hope you're not in too much pain! And I hope the doctor isn't in too much of his own blood...

Is it Monday? It feels like Monday. I think it is Monday. I hope tomorrow isn't Monday as well.

Gather ‘round children and let mama tell you a story…

Once upon a time, there was an OP named Gus. Now Gus was a kindly man who had grown up in Japan and didn’t know very much about Back East vernacular. One day, Gus came home from work and found two friends lounging on the back deck. The yard had not been mowed as promised by said friends.

“Why didn’t you mow the yard today?” asked Gus.

“There’s Kamikaze bees in the yard. Big fucking colony,” said his friends.

Now, dearest children, if you’ve ever hung out with Old Timers, you know they use odd words to more accurately describe something like ground bees. They give things a better description for a Purpose and to serve as a Warning. Gus did not understand that.

“Why the fuck do you call them that?” Gus growled.

“Because they dive bomb you in suicidal fashion. Only way to escape is to jump in the water,” said his friends.

“You know, I’m not proud of what my country did during WWII, but using certain words for things that may be seen as negative or a foe only promotes old bigotries and intolerance. Americans don’t understand the mentality of the Japanese pilots or why they did what they did….” Gus said. He rambled on for quite some time before finally saying, “I’ll mow the yard.”

“Can’t,” his friends said. “Need to gas ‘em first.”

This brought forth another tirade about improper words for certain things followed by, “I’m Buddhist. I’m not going to harm innocent insects just because you don’t like them. I’ll just mow around them.”

My dear children, one does not “just mow around” Kamikaze bees.

And so, Gus’ friends sat on the back deck and watched him pull his riding lawnmower out of the garage and start tackling the back forty. They waited, leaning forward in anticipation every time Gus’ happy mower passed near the colony until… Gus began to flail and swat. His friends smiled as Gus revved the mower into full speed.

One does not simply drive away from Kamikaze bees, my children. One runs. Gus figured it out eventually. His friends patiently waited until he was in range and then they turned the hose on him. Kamikaze bees hate water.

The moral of this story is: sometimes the names Old Timers give things are more accurate than the common name. Also, trust the natives. They Know the Purpose behind the names.
And that, my dear children, is why our OP will not be joining us tonight. He’s hepped up on Benadryl because of nearly a hundred bee stings.

(Completely irrelevant to the story but still a fun tidbit: the physician at EmergiCare was a Sikh. The first words out of his mouth were, “Ah, Kamikazes?”)

He got too close to a colony of ground bees... many queens in little holes, tons of males. They aren't as bad as Africanized honey bees, but they're vicious if you get close to them. Vibrations set them off.

I've always had a phobia of Bees. I stepped on a honeybee (Good thing it was just an individual) when I was one. I've been scared of the damn things ever since.

Also got stung by a Great Black Wasp one time as well, one of the worst experiences of my life.

Oh dear. Remind me never to move there. It's a point of pride that I have never been stung by a bee. I want to keep that record, thank you very much!

I'm allergic to bees/wasps. I carry an epi-pen. No way in hell was I going to mow.

That said, if you turn on the sprinkler in the evening, they go to ground, so you can walk out there and spray kerosine or gas over their nests.

I'm not allergic to the damn things, but I might as well be. I stear clear of every type of bee except for the bumbles, because those are cute and never sting.

I'm allergic to wasps but not bees. My throat swells and it's hard to breath. my arm got twice it's normal size once. ugh. In africa they have massive Knight wasps. 5 inch long monsters. I ran from them even if they weren't chasing me

The queen and workers sting. Their stingers aren't barbed like a honey bees, so they can sting over and over. But... if you want a cute bee that doesn't sting unless you beat the hell out of it or greatly annoy it... only queens have stingers...

Carpenter bees are adorable and very sweet.

Aww!

Ever hear of Cuckoo Bumble Bees?

They're interesting as hell. But still regular bumbles are usually pretty nice, I've gotten pretty close to one without it even caring.

I had to Google it. Awwwww.

Ogoti used to keep bees. Regular honey bees. Maybe I should revive that and have Swith keep a few hives in the woods behind the building?

I don't mind stinging, flying bugs when they're outside. The minute they come inside, they get introduced to a can of aerosol hair spray and a cigarette lighter. Or a shoe, if they're slow movers.

I don't care how cute they are, in they sting, then they are bad news for me.

My mom once took kindergarten-me to a large school-fair picnic held by her job, but then forced me to wear a skirt there. Of course I was like, "But mother, I do not like wearing skirts or dresses. I find confining and unnecessarily showing for my own personal comfort taste." And she was all, "Goddammit child of mine, can't you let your mother have fun with dressing her daughter up for once?" So I went to the picnic in a skirt, and got stun on my upper legs by a few of the thousand wasps out that day who got lost in said dreaded skirt. I cried and we went home. My mother never forced me to where dresses or skirts again.
