"...These people will arise in a time of darkness, when the gods are not pleased and the sacrifices not observed, and great blood will be spilled across the island...
Poagian Myth
The Pacific Island of Poaigos
September 23rd, 2013
For as long as anyone could remember, written of in both modern day history books, online websites, and even the stone inscriptions of cave walls and on tablets of the same cold stone, the people of Poaigos had practiced each year a human sacrifice to appease their gods and the spirits. Annually, two children, one boy and a girl, would be brought to the top of the mountain at the center of the tropical island, were an ancient stone table said to be blessed with the spirit of the island was set into the ground. It was atop this table that the hearts of the children would be cut from their chests and offered to the gods in exchange for the blessing of a good harvest and pleasant wet season. And so it was for so many years before today, and everything was peaceful.
For so many years, however, these simple tasks were not practiced. Since the 1940's the practice had been banned as they found it primitively disgusting and immoral. This was met with a bit of resistance from the traditionalists that still inhabited the island, but there was never any major conflict over the banning of the practice. Over the years it has been disallowed everyone has gradually grown to accept the truth and moved on, leaving the table at the mountain top unvisited for years. The island of Poaigos developed from a near uninhabited island to a bustling tourist attraction on the vast, calm expanses of the Pacific.
A chain of unfortunate events has recently been triggered, however.
Child killings of native families and visiting ones have not become uncommon. No witnesses are ever left, and the killer remains unidentified. Tropical storms and monsoons off the coast deny air and boat access to the island, shutting down ports and airports. Through all of this a few natives have made an accurate guess--their gods are unhappy, and the entire island must be punished.
At the same time this has taken place, a group of uniquely gifted people have had the unfortunate luck to be trapped on this island. Unbeknownst to them, these people are gifted in that through the events that have transpired and those to come very soon, abilities unknown to them in the past will be tapped into to decide the fate of Poaigos as a whole and its entire people.
Their obstacles are not known, and the importance of their task immense to be placed upon them at such short notice, but if their prophesized future is certain, they will find a way to overcome, though what they lose along such a journey will be for them to decide--whether it be their sanity, friends, family, or very lives.
Gee, wonder what this could be about. But, if you were feeling a bit lazy, it is an RP based around the Pacific island of Poaigos, where child sacrifice was once used to appease their gods and guarantee safety. With the banning of the sacrifices during World War Two, things have been going down hill, and shit has hit the fan, at the same time that a group of people gifted with whatever kind of powers have arrived (or were already living on) the island. So, naturally, the natives will insist they go to bring down an almighty mega-god and his minions and hopefully return not too mentally scarred. It may take them through several different dimensions and realms of being, but the end goal is the same--end whatever is causing this.
Sweet.
I don't need to post rules, right? No God Modding, don't be a jerk ass, use some common sense. Usual etiquette that I would hope is practiced in reality as well.
