I'd say swords is good and cool but what's more important is it depends on the wielder. Anyhow, it's up to the skills of the weapon-user, that's the most important factor. In the hands of the highly--skilled user, the sword is deadly. Same goes for any weapons.

Btw, is there any gunpowder weapons like muskets exists in the IC? If so, my bad for forgetting them. :x

hah ha, I meant extreme resistance, like taking a metal baseball bat to a pre 80s car. it will do damage but not much.

Well he can make enchantments to boost the sturdiness of his armour, though he'll have to regularly expend his own magic energy to maintain said effect. I'm not too keen on a metal being magic right as it's hauled out of the ground, so the magic would have to be something put on with runes during the forging process. Armour could help him focus defensive spells, I suppose.
