First of all there is 17 types in pokemon. It's hard to understand at first but here is a chart on how they work.

Secondly, Growth increases sp. def or sp. att. I don't remember which but Serebii exists for a reason.

A technical machine, more commonly called as "TM", is used to teach a Pokemon a move it might not ever learn naturally. For example A Gyrados cannot learn the move Flamethrower naturally, but if you teach it with a TM, it will. So technically your force the Pokemon to move something, but the TM has to be compatible . That means you actually need a TM.

Depends on the game... Toxic is a half good move so you won't find it until after atleast the second gym. Look it up on youtube or something else.

Well if it's pearl then he can only fight normal types right now. If he gets to... I have no idea what the city's name is. The one where the clowns give you tickets. There he can get a old rod and fish for magikarp. Then he can go to the first gym and fight rock pokemon in the caves nearby.

Also grass sucks against Electric. They suck against each other. The best thing you can do Red is go back and catch a shinx. They are wonderful pokemon.

Except Magikarp......the only thing good about it is that it evolves into Gyrados, and even then that's not saying much in the newer games. I just got done with yard work (for the Xth time)

Shinx is worth it on it's second evolution. Shinx is really good but the power boost it goes through makes it a god. Roselia is good. Budew is just a good fallout pokemon. Which starter?
