It basically controls all their action besides speaking in which a robotic computer takes over, if they are able to get past the ASU's screaming. The Brain stem.

If you look at the picture on page 2 it has places that aren't armored, such as the joint where the thigh and the hip meet. That where he stabbed the first time. And to be fair they were stolen from a pawn shop, and eveytime I go to a pawn shop they have those really big almost ornamental knifes, ya know?

EDIT: Perhaps specifying it as "blade" and "dagger" would help clear up some confusion.
