AI:Armored Infantry: Operation Ganymede (IC)

Postby Imperialisium » Wed May 22, 2013 6:44 pm

OOC/Sign Ups thread:
Overview

A week after hostilities had begun and after some space skirmishing battles at the outskirts of Alliance space the first hammer blow fell. But it surprisingly was not the Alliance that dealt it, rather it was the Republic of Saepan. A Saepani Fleet of 68 ships had arrived not at the fringes of Alliance space but at the small colony of Ganymede orbiting Jupiter. It was the near the already established Jupiter Colony and could effectively threaten that colony as well.

Ganymede itself possessed a small population of 250,000 people yet the moon was 63% terraformed and could help strangulate the farther out colonies of Saturn. Therefore it was Strategically important to both the Alliance and Saepani in gaining strategic initiative and gaining Jupiters resources. The Ganymedian population was arrayed in several smaller cities and long stretches of farmland and terraformed created forests and woodlands with numerous large lakes and rivers. The Main City was erroneously called Ganymede as well, the seat of the Alliance Government on the world.

7 Days after Conflict Starting

A Saepani Fleet of 68 ships arrived in high orbit (FTL tech is extremely slow right now so it would take week from Earth to Pluto) over Ganymede. The Alliance FLeet was comparatively small due to the colonies thought to be safe location with only 14 ships in Orbit. But the Saepani had somehow been elusive enough to evade the Alliance patrol craft. The Alliance Ships were even at anchor and unprepared for the onslaught as their ships systematically came under heavy fire. Eight were destroyed before their shields could be brought online while another was crippled. The surviving crew members escaping via escape pods or lifeboats. The remaining five Alliance ships, two smaller chassis Destroyers called the Vladimir and Kruskov, a Frigate called the Pontmercy and a pair of Military transport ships named the Bratislava and Kosice managed to pull away. Abandoning the Alliance Space Station Io-4 that orbited the planet to the Saepani. Which captured the Station uncontested, gaining nearly 10,000 prisoners of war from the station and captured escape pods.

Following this the Saepani Fleet moved into direct orbit over Ganymede City were the Alliance Army, composed of 5,000 Regulars of the Japanese 5th Light Infantry Brigade backed by 3,000 Ganymede City Colonial Militia began to mobilize. But to late as the Saepani military began to use their Space Fighters, the Mark-III Falcon in tactical missile strikes which destroyed the three squadrons of Alliance Space Fighters based outside of Ganymede City. After the loss of their primary air support the Alliance troops began to take defensive measures and AA SAM positions were being set up. At least until the Saepani used Orbital Drop Pods to deliver two Squadrons of Mecha's. They were Second Generation Mechas of the Saepani color scheme of Green, each carried a Beam Carbine with some specialized with Long Range weaponry in the form of Sniper Cannons and Rocket Launchers. They were of the standard 9 meters tall with two arms and legs. These Mechas easily obliterated any defenses the Alliance Forces put in place. Destroying tanks and vehicles, artillery emplacements and AA positions.

The situation was drastic as the 5th Light Brigade was increasingly scattered and pushed back. Allowing Saepani Drop ships to deliver their Tanks, Artillery, Ground soldiers and vehicles including their own AA SAMs. Ganymede City was now officially under Saepani Occupation as Alliance forces bleeded into the countryside. The Governor of Ganymede, Jaine Zystimir was captured in the last hour of fighting in the city.

Casualties: Circa 23,000 including Naval Crews, Colonial Militia, Japanese Light Regulars killed in action or wounded and pilots.
Loss of 70% of Japanese 5th Lights Vehicles and equipment, Colonial Militia losses are similar.

Saepani Casualties: Two fighters shot down leading to two pilots captured by the Alliance. One Mecha damaged and the pilot wounded, 104 Saepani Regulars wounded or Killed in action in last engagements in the city.

Day 8
Earth
Moon Base

Valerien Konstantin and his Ghost squadron had recently arrived on the Moon of Earth, home to the Alliance Space Forces HQ. The Ghost Squadron was but one piece in the large Alliance counter attack being planned. All told so far 81 vessels from the Space Fleet was going to be sent in the counter attack. 69 where direct combat ships and others being transports, the Navy was also packing 20,000 Marines stationed onboard the vessels. The Alliance Army made up of the member nations had gathered 100,000 men and women in uniform to retake Ganymede City and counter attack Saepan. The Army had Leopard 3A Tanks, M8 Abrams and numerous IFVs and APCs with extensive mobile and traditional artillery support.

The Alliance Air Force had gathered eight Fighter Squadrons and four Bomber squadrons with a total of 15,000 Paratroopers. As for the Mecha Corps the Alliance had gathered 12 Squadrons, including the Ghosts for the endeavor.

Moon Base

Suzumida Takaguchi alongside the Second Generation Branch of Close-Combat, the special forces branch specialized in CQC and quick assault, had been arrived at the Moon Base. Almost all of the members, about 50 out of 100 members, and some are the elites of the branch, had been mobilized for this Operation. Lt. Colonel Hizako Takayuchi with his Third Generation Mecha will lead the special forces branch.

Except for Hizako and 5 of his bodyguards with Third Generation, the others used Second Generation.

Moon Base

Captain Valerien Konstantin watched as his Valkyrie was being loaded into a drop pod with three other of the Ghosts mechas. The Ghosts had four drop pods that were hexagonal shaped with sloped sides for atmospheric insertion. The 13 members of the Ghost Squadron would be in the first wave and would drop behind enemy lines to disrupt enemy positions for the main force attacking from the front.

As Valerien looked around him he saw a Japanese unit, he knew the commanding officer as Captain Suzumida Takaguchi. He'd read Takaguchi's file, it was impressive to say the least. He looked around as he saw his second in command, First Lieutenant Katherine Castamere, a beautiful young woman with black hair and bright blue eyes that looked more for modeling than soldiering. She looked entirely out of place but her expression was of deep concentration. She was conversing with a group of Japanese Mecha pilots belonging to Takaguchi's outfit.

The rest of the Ghosts where either checking their machines, preferring to look over anything themselves rather than let mechanics tinker with their beloved machines. He saw Ghost 03:Heinrich Bielefeld sitting in his Mecha with the cockpit open looking over instrument panels. Ghost 04, Atimir Fyzemir looking over a crate of ammunition for his Ghosts Sniper Cannon. Ghost 05 Friedrich Seydlitz checking the read out of his machines Fusion Reactor. Ghost 06 Ekaterina Welomina going over diagnostics with Ghost 07, Zeta Baelene while Ghost 08 a Erikson Fjanson Read a book. Ghosts 09 through 12 where playing cards to pass the time two women and the rest boys. Ghosts 01 was himself and Ghost 02 was Castamere.

They had their orders, they would fulfill them to the bitter end if need be die trying. "Deep in thought Captain?" came a voice behind him and Konstantin turned to see the chiseled eye-patched and close shaven form of General Lukas Ernsworth, a British Officer through and through. Looking more like Lord Nelson every day it seemed due to tucking a still good hand into his uniform.

"Yes Sir, just observing my pilots." replied Konstantin. The General and Konstantin were on good terms with Ernsworth knowing Konstantins prowess in combat, therefore letting him have great free reign on the battlefield. Despite the chagrin of other higher up officers he preferred to let the lower ranking officers adapt to the situation rather than wait for orders or play by the book. After all the Saepani seemed to have chucked the book out the window with their blitzkrieg on Ganymede.

"Very good carry on then." replied the General and he saw Ernsworth make his way over to the Japanese Mecha contingent. He heard the General shout out, "Who's in charge here?" Castamere simply stated, "A certain Captain Takaguchi Sir."

"Well where is he?" replied the General and Castamere shrugged. Castamere was not under Takaguchi's command so she would unlikely know his whereabouts. But he was probably close by if this was his unit.

"Lt. Colonel Hizako, reporting as the commanding officer of the Japan Mecha Operators. Captain Suzumida is my second-in-command, General."

Hizako had walked right to the crowds of officers after tried very hard to looked for the Europeans. Most of his units now are either inspecting their mechas or resting for now. Unlike Suzu whose emotions hardly shows during combat, he always tried to be a cheerfully officer with a respected image. His commanders are in Japan, coordinating the operation from the Earth. On the same time, most of his units are males, the females are being medics.

Ares,
Capital of the Martian Colony

A meeting took place underneath the Momentum of Independence, a statue erected during the first war of Independence where Mars suffered heavily trying to gain its freedom at the cost of nearly 404,000 souls and at the time the Martian colony was only at 3 million population. After the first grand war, three more wars or skirmishes occurred and the wrath of the Alliance was devastating. Millions lost, however the Martians tired of degrading conditions, sanctions, and quality of life and most importantly, the concept of freedom was the driving force.

Underneath this secret, hardened bunker was a meeting consisting of various captains of industry, military officers, and politicians. They were enraged and bitter over the latest Alliance demands of material for their war effort. They knew that the Alliance insisted high tributes to keep Marians from building up, however over the last five years since the last skirmish which was nothing more then a brief war and the Alliance ended up orbital bombarding various cities and forcing the Mars to capitulate. They had managed to scrap together a decent fleet and a sizeable Mecha force. Wolfgang's father looked around and saw the latest figures " we could possibly defeat the Alliance in open combat, and sue for good peaceful conditions but we cannot defeat them. They won't grant us independence. They would have gave up after that first war " Wolfgang swallowed the bitter words his father spoke, the Young man had fought in the second war when he was sixteen and fought in every conflict but he wanted freedom. Nothing would satisfy the urge to raise the Martian flag on Victory square. The entire colony wanted independence and they showed they were willing to bleed, and bleed again for a chance.

A civilian, a merchant called Vars Retune, who owned one of the massive shipping companies in the Alliance and renowned as " Imperial Shippers " Was a beyond wealthy martian who had thousands of ships and trillions of credits spoke " Here my words. I am as a much patriot as any of you but we cannot win this, For every five alliance men we kill, they kill one of us, they will defeat us. We cannot fight them, and we will pay again with the blood of our brothers, children, our sons. This war will ravage us and if we can survive and endure, and have victory, what will be the cost? Our cities will be shattered. Let us keep the Alliance happy with our tribute. "

Wolfgang looked at the man and spat on the ground " Patriot? You sat there, making money of us and the Alliance, shipping goods and weaponry used against us! I have bled, I have been there. I have killed men and lost men. We need independence, we need victory. We cannot be a colony, we must be independent to forge our own future, our own history. We have the universe at our palms and we are being neglected and put into submission by a bunch of Terrans who think whats best for us. We will bleed, I Will bleed, and if I die and we have freedom ,it will be worth it. History will judge us on our actions today and maybe we lose but we will inspire the next generation of heros to take up arms until we are free " He looked at the men in the room " This is assystrmic warfare, every generation after us will fight until we have our freedom and until then, I doubt the Alliance will continue to fight, our will will bend theirs. " Wolfgang looked around as the various men nodded in agreement and came to the conclusion that Mars will try independence.

A message was sent via encrypted and secure electronic signal over Mars and would be intercepted and encrypted by Alliance code-crackers.

It was a speech of the Governor of Mars;

My Fellow Martians,
The long to independence was been long and hard and i know the outpour and cries of freedom has rallied millions of you to join revolutionary causes and various groups have committed actions of terrorism in the name of freedom. I urge all groups to disband and disarm. Destroying Martian property and killing your brothers is futile. The alliance doesn't feel it, they can soak up any thing we can throw at them however I ask you to bare with me, one last time, will you come with me into the dark. I ask all of you something that will require sacrifice, pain and bloodshed but if we are victorious, we will have self-governance and freedom. We will break free of the binds of Alliance submission and forge our own future! Bleed with me People of mars, Once more, your government asks you to walk into the night and pay the ultimate price and we hope that our grandchildren will look back and say this was the day when we stood together for the last time to achieve our independence.

Thank you and may the Lord bless us.

Wolfgang emerged from the bunker and heard the news from the Governor as he announced his intention to hold an executive decision to declare independence. He became overjoyed at the prospect of joining the fray once more and yelled out in excitement. Mobs of people ran into the streets celebrating their call to arms, acting as if it was they're independence, little they know that a price will be have to be paid and this was shaping up to be the grand daddy of all of the independent wars.

Mar's association football team had been playing an international friendly with the Alpha Centauri team and at half time, they assembled in their dug outs and wrote various Free mars slogans on their under tees with markers and during a great display of football, the Martian team scored a winner from a terrific header from a defender in injury time ( the extra minutes of a football match ) after the teams had been deadlocked at 2-2 for over a hour. With the team lifting their shirts, displaying their political intentions with " FREE MARS " " FREE MARTIAN COLONY " ' LONG LIVE FREEDOM " with various media outlets taking note of this.

All eyes turned to the attention of the Alliance hierarchy and what was going to be their response to another wave of Martian Independence.

Earth
Zurich, Switzerland
Headquarters for the Alliance

The Military of the Alliance was convening in an emergency conference about the growing conflict and tensions permeating the System. The Alliance President John Orlande was also present and he sat at a chair before the great Flag depicting the Globe with a wreath around it. The former UN now Alliance adopted symbol.

"So gentlemen we know why we are here." said the President and he indicated Admiral of the Fleet Alexandria Orlenda Ulonosky.

"Yes sir, as you well know the Ganymede Flotilla lost more than half its strength and 4/6ths of its fighting power as conservative estimates. The remaining five ships under acting Commander John Tliekos has retreated from the area and is on the far side of Jupiter currently. As of now we have 81 vessels ready at our Moon Base Fleet Headquarters to sortie out and retake Ganymede followed by the launching of a campaign to defeat The Republic of Saepan. In addition 20,000 Marines have been deployed along with several Orbital Drop Trooper Teams"

"And Field Marshal Michael Kirponos?" said the President, the Commander of the Alliance Ground Forces stood up.

"Sir, we have 100,000 personnel, 84,000 are combat oriented and are ready for deployment." said the Field Marshall.

"What of our Ground forces on Ganymede." replied the President.

"We have the scattered Japanese 5th Light Infantry Brigade at less that half strength and 30% vehicles. Along with roughly 15,000 Colonial Militia also scattered." No commanding officer yet as the reports show Lieutenant General Reginald Emingham was killed in recent fighting. No other reports made it out."

"What is our intel?" said the President dismissively. Julia LaClaire the Head of the Office of Alliance Intelligence presented her report.

"The Saepani have circa sixty ships in orbit over Ganymede, we think it to be 30% of their space forces in terms of numbers. Along with several squadrons of Mechas and at least 50,000 ground forces personnel. In this case we hold the numerical and firepower advantage. But that is not my only report: Mars. Yes the Red Colony as our Code Breakers have managed to find out is stirring for independence. I have already issued Warrants for the arrest of the Governor but the Police seemed to be compromised."

At that the President reeled from the shock and news of Earths largest colony in terms of population and assets in another rebellion. The Alliance did have sizable forces on the planet and in orbit. He knew those wouldn't be compromised to terribly as most are born Terrans. Namely from the NAF and Empire.

"Mobilize the Entire Mars Fleet and all Military assets. We do not have time for this nonsense." said the President and everyone shuffled out of the room.

The Martian forces had learned quickly in the previous war to infralirate and disable the Alliance orbital weapons and vessels in space.

The Governor ordered all defensive surface weapons to lock on to the Mar's Orbital Fleet and unleash hell. The Martians had over 13 Massive Nova Cannons which could singlehandly cripple most frigates to battle cruisers, however the real danger was the hundreds of smaller sites which housed payloads of ordnance weapons.

Most importantly, the Mars Transitional Government or MTG okay-ed the use of three subatomic fusion missiles to be fired at the heart of the Alliance build up which would surely cripple and cause massive ruptures in the Alliance lines.

The Governor okay-ed a payload of over 5 million tonnes to be fired across the surface amongst various batteries which looked to cripple and disable the Alliance forces.

Various agents of Martian government began to sabotage various vessels. With most of the Alliance fleet Terran, some Martians had managed to get themselves on-board as petty officers to cooks to cleaners and a series of IED's were detonated in various space crafts to cause harm and disorient the system. Most of them were very minor however one bomb detonated, caused a tear within a frigate's engineering compartment, crippling the vessel.

The Martians had a heads up and they were quickly assembled as their fleet amassed one strike at the heart of the Alliance forces.

The fleet numbered One carrier, two battleships, one Dreadnaught and flagship of Martian fleet dubbed "Romulus", 12 Cruisers, 18 Frigates, 19 Destroyers, 8 Assault Frigates, Two Space Barrages, 145 Modern starfighters, another 125 older generation fighters, 58 gunboats.

This fleet comprised of the Bulk of the Martian fleet, however they outnumbered the Alliance's Martian fleet but this was just a splinter force of what the Alliance could throw at them. They're goal was to strike at the center of the Alliance fleet which had been heavily weakened by the massive barrage of Martian ordnance. They're goal was to hit the center of the fleet then isolate the pockets of vessel, firing to disable their engines and weapons, so they could be captured, repaired and retrofitted as Martian vessels. The Orders were set and the Martian fleet entered its battle formation as they pounded the Alliance vessels with a massive barrage.

They Issued a Blank communication which was " Turn back, or Surrender..Death is your option if you stay and fight us. " Which was spammed across the Martian broadcast to persuade the Terrans to flee or give up.

Wolfgang was given a company of Mechs, the Martian 1st Company to lead an assault at the Command/Space station which housed the Alliance's intelligence and command structure for their Martian division. With 15 Mechs including himself, they're goal was to cripple the station but be able to facilitate a safe passage for two battalions which awaited transportation to board and take over the station.

As the war began in space, the Martian government called up its reserves. It could take several days to get its reserved mustered but Martian standing army numbered at 150,000 Men which was focused nearly 35,000 men at its three major cities, Ares, Troy and Hades while the rest of the force was basically security guards.

The Martians had nearly a reserve force of 500,000 which would take several days to gather but they were confident in their strength to hold off the Alliance.

With an airforce comprising of 65 Interceptors, 190 Fighters, 25 Assault gunships and 25 Bombers, the orders were given to ready the airforce and prepare to engage the Alliance ground forces.

The Martians struck first and hard at the Alliance naval capacity, hoping to cripple their navy in space to allow their naval forces to bombard the Alliance ground forces.

Mars Front Space

The Alliance Orbital Fleet under Admiral Adam Johnson of the NAF was reeling. With a crippled vessel, several ships burning in destruction and crews desperately evacuating from them. The fighters had launched to engage the Martians, outnumbered 2 to 1 but the Alliance pilots were professionals. So in terms of skill they were matched much more evenly. But the Alliance Fleet with military finesse that should have earned every man and woman aboard a commendation began to return fire and organize into firing lines. Showing the enemy their broadside batteries and firing waves of beam cannons, nuclear missiles and the SAS (Sol Alliance Ship) Valient managed to line up its MAC Cannon with a Martian Cruiser and fired at the vessel directly at it.

The Martians had gained the surprise advantage but that advantage was slowly ending. Already one of the Frigates was crippled, three destroyers had been lost in fiery explosions and a Cruiser had been lost. With another two Frigates damaged the Alliance Fleet had taken a heavy loss at the very beginning of the battle. With IEDs going off in half the Alliance ships hurting crews and damaged portions of decks. Luckily no direct tear in the Hull had occurred and everyone of Martian affiliation was either put in the brig or those found guilty and survived were shot immediately and jettisoned. Such was the cruelty of warfare now-a-days.

The Alliance scrambled everything, quickly getting lists of targets, the Orbital Space Stations begin to open fire at the Martian Fleet with numerous smaller missile turrets targeting Martian Starfighters. Each station had a dozen Beam cannons, 50 Missile pods and 62 Beam guns with a full point defense system and shields plus the armor plating of their hulls. The battle was furious and two Squadrons of Mechas took up positions on the Stations to repel Martian boarders.

On the Ground

The Alliances bases on the planet had been hit hard with 15,000 casualties currently registered, not to mention the possibly thousands not yet counted. But the Alliance forces on the ground were scrambling and given orders to fire on discretion. Alliance Artillery begin retaliatory barrages on Martian Positions, the remaining 12 Mecha squadrons began to use their trademark mobility and fire. Using their thrusters and dexterity to establish localized zones of Alliance superiority. Meanwhile an Infantry Battalion, the 75th Ranger's 1st Battalion of the NAF had secured a bridge over one of the rivers running through the Martian capital. Which was were practically all of the Alliance forces were based outside of.

Overhead the Alliance Fighters began to run intercept missions and airstrikes. Leveling buildings and bombers were being scrambled with heavy Fighter escort to carpet bomb Martian positions. Meanwhile AA SAMS were online at the Alliance main Base of Alpha-Zero and at all the Secondary Bases of Alpha-1, 2 and 3.

General Norman Marshall was yelling into one of the comm phones at Alpha-zero.

"I Know! get Earth to send us reinforcements now! Code RED! We got Martian Rebels coming out of our asses! I need more forces!"

Outside IEDS exploded in a hailstorm of debris and from the earlier wars of independence the Alliance troopers smartly began to use cautious search and destroy tactics. Making sure that Armor was being brought up to provide frontal fire support with Mobile Artillery given orders to systematically level any and all Martian positions. Regardless of potential civilian losses which already had passed the thousand mark.

Moon Base

As news of the Mars uprising reached the Moon Bases the Alliance officers crumbled to themselves and some soldiers shoulders sagged. The reality was that the Alliance was harder pressed now, with the largest colony now in a civil war it seemed and another Colony being gradually taken over things seemed dark. But this did spurn some of the Alliance soldiers into furious activity as seen in Konstantin who began snapping orders.

"Ghosts move out! Load up, get those Mechs in the drop pods! I want full inventory checks complete now!"

Even as these orders were given the order had been given that all Alliance personnel will report to their craft and ships. All Marines are to report to their muster centers and ships, all Army personnel to their Battalions, Brigades, Regiments and up to Divisions for load up into the Naval ships. All Pilots to their rally points as their fighters and bombers were loaded up into hangers. Auxiliary personnel reported to their ships and tramped up the loading ramps and through docking gateways. Equipment and ammunition in the tonnes were loaded up along with all matter of foodstuffs and medical supplies. The Ship Captains stood outside their vessels helping with directions and the first few ships could be seen fully loaded leaving their docking ports with their own Captains saying,"Greenlight."

The second generations mechas units, led by Lt. Colonel Hizako and Captain Suzumida will be mobilized. Most of the equipments had been prepared for this mobilization, although few still remaining unprepared.

Earth:

Mitsubishi Mecha Corporation, the branch specialized in supplying and producing the mechas, had been aware of the situation with Mars. Since the branch in Moon only equipped with weaponry enough for quick raids and medium-scale assault, but not for large-scale assault. Thus, a mission for supplying them with heavier armaments and more connections to the space station of Japan for quick re-supply and re-armament. More will be detailed by the later.

Orbit of Mars,
Operation Twilight

The Martian fleet had caught the Alliance completely by surprised and managed to cause havoc and this time around, the Martians were well drilled and organized, rather then small pockets of ships fighting all over, they resembled a full-fledged fighting force but the fighting spirit of the Alliance forces was tremendous. Various ships were completely knocked out but continued to fight ordnance until the last man, several vessels rammed into Martian assault craft. It was a total grudge match of epic proportions.

However, The high command of MTG knew any ships lost, couldn't be immediately replaced and within a week or so, the Alliance will consolidate their loses and attack Mars. A rotation policy occurred, with any Martian ships once they were dwindled down to 25% shields where pulled from action to recharge and regroup and vessels which were critically damaged were pulled from action all together. It was a smart move but it make the combat much more even, with their numerical advantage being pulled from them. The Martians continued to use much frowned upon and illegal sub atomic fusion missiles and ordnance to try and crack open the Alliance battle groups.

A message hail from the Flagship Romulus, which stated Full-quarter would be given to any Alliance vessel that surrenders to the Martians and that no harm will be done upon them and any soldiers will be allowed to return home on various civilian transport which carried Terran civilians.

This message was sent as a plea for the Terrans to give up, since many of them knew that this battle would result in a clear victor but in a heavy cost.

The Martian Vanguard, consisting of Romulus, a massive 10 Billion tonne Dreadnaught-Class Vessel along with two battleships, and 3 cruisers and 5 Destroyers entered the combat, gunning towards the Terran Flagship which was heavily damaged. The Dreadnaught was a pre-war prototype which was deemed too costly to put into production with only one surviving vessel left, which the Martians had " scuttled " which they kept in storage, in the Martian Interior space ports. ( Within the planet ).

The Vessel was easily the most powerful single ship and the pride of the Martian vessel. It was an older vessel, not as agile or quick but it didn't need. Armed with two massive Nova cannons which were capable to cracking into a planet's crust. These weapons were pinpointed at the flagship and one of the carriers as the massive Dreadnaught unleashed a massive precision energy weapon which drained the vessel of its power for nearly five minutes as its battle-group surrounded it.

With now the bulk of the fleets engaging each other head on, the Martian fleets seemed to gain the upper-hand with most of their vessels still, fresh and ready to go with numerous Alliance vessels being hit by interior IEDs, the atomic weapons and the surface batteries opening up, on their pre-target. It was a rough day for the Alliance vessels, however a splinter force of the heavier vessels linked up to create a shield wall to buy them to allow their vessels to regroup and withdraw from the Mars Orbit.

Two options became here, stand and fight and die or fall back to Moon and relocate the resources for what will be, a certain retaliatory strike on Mars.

The Alliance space station make a complete nightmare for the Martian gunboats which had to overcome a wall of beam and missile fire. Slowly but surely, the Martians were pulling through and hitting the station, allowing small gaps in their defensive fire ring which Kill times of Commandos began to land. However, dozens of fighters and bombers were dropping in minutes with the Sole Martian carrier at full capacity, it was steadily losing its little birds.

Admiral Vallysedigh on board the Romulus, ordered two Destroyers to intercept and provide return fire to disable and cripple the station's defensive power. Now, with dozens of crippled vessels all through Martian orbit, Kill teams of Commandos began to board on various smaller, attack transports to avoid AA fire, these teams comprised of men from 25-50 depending on the craft, carrying specialty designed assault rifles, full re-breathers and gravity boots in-case of any hull damage and they also carried various chemical weapons and agents like gas grenades and high-fragment rounds, white phosphorus rounds. These teams were focused on the smaller cruisers, and frigates which had no more then maybe a platoon if that, on-board as military police and security guards,

At the Alliance Command Station

Wolfgang had damaged to fly through the massive ordnance and energy weapon barrage which the Terran defenders where pumping out. He activated the gravity boots on his Mech to allow it to stand and run across the exterior hull of the space station. He holstered his gauss rifle then pulled out two energy beams and began to cut apart various turrets and ordnance torpedo bays to create a beachhead for his company of Mechs and the landing force. He had two melta bombs which were high intensity bombs designed to melt then explode within the exterior of a hull of a vessel. He threw one at one of the Command arrays to cut off communications before tossing the other one in one of the group of turrets.

He reaped havoc amongst the turrets on the quadrant he landed out. He created a massive gap which the Martian landing armies exploited. However this grabbed the attention of the Alliance Mecha's which were compelled to strike at him. Luckly, his company had arrived and they engaged in a long range fight, exchanging fire at a distance while the Alliance mecha's made their way closer.

Wolfgang focused his massive Ion cannon on one Mecha, firing a massive pulse beam at one Mecha nearly 200 Km's away. The beam hit one Alliance Mecha dead on and fried the entire Mecha. The weapon ate away at the machine, before it exploded in a massive display of carnage. Wolfgang had been very accurate with this weapon however with the recharge time on it nearly 3 to 5 minutes, this would most likely be the only chance he was able to fire it. He holstered his gauss rifle and began to fire on the upcoming Alliance mechas as he used his elbow mounted Shield to deflect some of their return fire.

Ares, Capital of Mars

With the skies filled with Alliance fighters and bombers reaping a havoc on civilian targets. The Martian air-force was still in its infancy and tried its best to strike back. With a massive amount of Interceptors, it was able to go toe-toe with them however they were suffering tremendous loses, usually 2-1 and some areas, 3-1, the highly skilled Alliance fighters and escorts were able to smash their air-force.

However on the ground, the Martians excelled, with heavy infantry and Tanks. With most of the Martian buildings hardened to withstand solar storms and because of the various wars, most buildings were designed to act as a fallout shelters, the Artillery initially caused tremendous damage but as the Martians made their way to their bunkers. The Artillery began to become redundant.

The Martian strategy was to blank Alliance forces with non-conventional weapons then advancing and exploiting the gaps with focused firepower and as a result, an order was given to strike at the Alliance base outside of the city with Atomic weapons. Various Silo's unleashed a hail of low-yield, fusion missiles which detonated over head of the Alliance bases and fortification as as pockets of heavy centralized and concreted Martian forces rained down counter-artillery and ordnance in the form of Indirect and Directly fired missiles. Mechanized Infantry and heavy tanks with Missile payloads rushed forward in a Blitzkrieg. The Initial advance had orders to run straight through the Alliance forces and charged, exchanging fire while Martian gunboats followed suit with massive pockets of missile fire.

The Governor of Mars, named Tom Ford, issued all forces unrestricted access to all non conventional weapons. As the Martians knew, they're only advantage was to use these illegal weapons to cause gaps and to open up the Alliance forces with these weapons.

Mars was 50% still dead, and the rest was barely terraformed and he figured, a few atomic weapons wouldn't do anything, espisically once the majority of Mars went underground, to shield themselves from bombardment, it wouldn't matter.

Operation Ganymede

As the Alliance ships gradually launched with their full components the Mechas of Ghost Squadron loaded up into the SAS Battleship Spirit of Earth. Where the Mechas were secured and ready for transit. The Pilots of Ghost Squadron in the meantime after sounding off followed Lt. Castamere to one of the lounges where they began recreation activities. Konstantin in the meantime looked out of the viewports away from his soldiers and into the void. He often wondered as a child what was out there but he did this to shut everything else out. His Squadron was being orbital dropped for a reason. Sure some Japanese would accompany them but the Ghosts were not only a part of the Mecha Corps. They received orders primarily from the Special Warfare Division of the Alliance Military or SWD. Those orders superseded any others and Captain Konstantin was prioritized not only in Operational Victory but to capture any Saepani technology that outstrips Alliance so that SWD Tech teams could analyze it.

Then once all the Alliance forces were safely aboard their vessels the Fleet had Engines to maximum and they began to leave the moon behind them. The Ganymede Counter-Attack force was underway. To some far away battlefield that men would die far..far away from their loved ones and homes on some rock in the middle of nowhere.

Emergency Meeting

Admiral of the Fleet Alexandria Orlenda Ulonosky and Field Marshall Kirponos sat in a dimly lit room with a holographic map of Mars and the battlefield. The situation was complex and critical. But Operation Red Star was now in Operation and the Alliance Fleet at Mars was going to pull away to Phobos. Followed by Alliance Ground Forces doing staged retreats back to their bases with all its shielding and protection. While the Starbases would be evacuated and a kill code put in. The Password was:Star Fallen and only known to a select few. Otherwise the Stations computers would short circuit once activated by the rebels and self destruct. If that fails the Secondary Kill code would fire automatically. Where the Stations would commence a Orbital Drop onto Mars. Destroying the Starbases and potentially killing millions of Martians and destroying much of the terraformed parts of Mars. As a kind of middle finger to the Martians in a way.

The Password could be entered from Earth of course as it was a good bargaining chip if the next phase of Red Star failed. Which was the decisive counter attack in Space and then on the Ground by vast Alliance forces. The kill codes were the last resort, the Martians if they succeeded would get a destroyed and poisoned world largely unable to support life again.

Ganymede, 52nd NAF Armored Division, 3rd Brigade, 1st Battalion, Alpha Company(HQ)

Colonel William Ironsides grimaced as he listened to the reports from across the battle-front. Things were looking rather grim for the Alliance forces, through most of the 52nd was holding strong, not that they had much choice. Ironsides and his tanks, the new NAF M-58-A3 Crusader, a tank he had helped design, were parked on the top of a gentle slope, daring the Saepani to come and get them. Which the dumb bastards tried, multiple times, the burnt husks of various types of vehicles littering the slope, none of them anywhere near the infantry positions that were placed in front of the Crusaders. As he pressed the ear-piece to his ear, Ironsides felt his tank rock a bit as the powerful 155mm rail-gun fired down the slope, a small shout of victory telling him that the gunner, Sergeant Eric Smith had hit his target.

"Stupid mech bastard." Smith chuckled darkly. Smith was an immigrant from Great Britain, and by God the man was earning his citizenship.

Turning in his command chair Ironsides peered out the commander's cupola, using the optics to zoom in on the newest pillar of smoke. Smith had indeed taken out another mecha, the round having gone right through the cockpit. Ironsides smiled. "Superior indeed." He said quietly. It was no secret that Ironsides, and indeed a large part of the NAF tank corps, had a rather large grudge against the various mecha programs and units in the Alliance. Sure, they had their purposes, and while their pilots did deserve some degree of respect, that came from being fellow soldiers, not because they were the 'elite' of the Alliance military.

"Gunner, enemy heavy weapon team moving into position at your 4 o'clock." Ironsides said into the tank intercom as he saw a mortar team moving up.

"Spotted...tacking." Smith replied, the turret of the Crusader swiveling toward the team, the gun adjusting. "Loader, load HE round." Smith ordered. When something needed to be shot, the gunner was basically in command of the tank.

"Copy." The loader said, pulling a HE round from the ammo-rack, sliding it into the breech of the cannon. Martin Perez had been a university drop-out, like Ironsides. Now he was the loader/field mechanic for the tank, though all crew knew how to make simple field repairs.

"ROUND UP!" Martin shouted after the breech sealed. And without additional ceremony the round was sent, the tank rocking slightly. Ironsides saw the round hit, and the weapons crew disintegrate. "Target neutralized." Smith reported.

Satisfied that his crew had things under control, as they always had, Ironsides turned from the cupola, turning his full attention to the reports. That was when the worst thing that could happen, happened.

"Crusader One, this is Raptor One, come in over." The voice of the 52nds airforces, mostly gunships, said over the radio. Crusader One was Ironsides call-sign.

"Go ahead Raptor One." Ironsides replied, already suspecting what she was about to say.

"Bad news Crusader One. Eagle Actual is KIA. Repeat, Eagle Actual is KIA. Enemy forces took out convoy with an artillery strike. Most of the convoy survived, but reports say his command vehicle took the first round." The slightly crackling voice of Raptor One reported. Ironsides sighed. Major General Mike Greggs, Eagle Actual, had commanded the 52nd since before Ironsides had been transferred to the unit, several years ago. The man had been a good friend. But worse then just losing a friend, Greggs death put Ironsides in command of the 52nd.

"Copy that Raptor One." William sighed, switching his comm-channel to Division-wide. "All units this is Crusader One. Reports confirm that Eagle Actual is KIA. Repeat, Eagle Actual is KIA. Crusader One is now assuming command of all 52nd Division Elements. Repeat, Crusader One is now Crusader Actual." William announced, taking command of the division. He frowned before returning to the comm.

"Commanders briefing to be held at Crusader element rally point at 1730." He added. His first order of business would to be explore the possibility of going on the offensive. The 52nd had the majority of its strength, and its Crusader tanks had already proven more then a match for the Saepani forces, both during the limited retreat, and then again on the defensive. After receiving the acknowledgements of the various element commanders Ironsides signed off, turning his attention back to the cupola. They still had several hours before the briefing, and he really felt like seeing something blown up right now.

Several hours later, after the briefing, Ironsides sent a encrypted message to Alliance Command to inform them of the recent developments.

Command, Major General Mike Greggs has been confirmed to be KIA, killed by Saepani artillery strike. I have assumed command of the 52nd Armored Division. A commanders briefing has already been held and the 52nd Armored is preparing to launch an offensive attack against Saepani positions. Reinforcements are required immediately if we are to hold the colony. Combat reports will follow.

Mars Orbital Command Center,
Martian Orbit

" Advance, company! Suppressive fire on the flanks. Hold the center, hold it! " Wolfgang was caught up amidist a massive fire fight as his outnumbered Mech company desperately tried to hold the ground against the Alliance mechs. The Battle extended from long range combat then proceeded to get to the close and gritty. Wolfgang turned off the gravity boots on his mech for a movement, concreting the power on the thrusters on his back as his Mech leapt forward and drove two beam swords into the back of another Mech. He twisted his sabres, cutting the Mecha in half as he pivoted and holstered on beam weapon to upholster his gauss rifle then restored his gravity boots. He unleashed a hail of return fire as the combat disintegrated into man vs man. Seemingly outnumbered, the First company began to withdraw unti in the glimpse of his eyes, he saw a destroyer unleash a hail of laser cannon and ordnance fire which ravaged the Alliance Mechs and the space station. It seemed the battle for the station had turned and he saw dozens of assault craft dock and enter the station as Martians gained the imitative.

" We have established the beachhead! Advance, take it, its ours! " The screams of joy after a hard fought melee with alliance forces erupted within the mech company. They gathered their loses and consolidated themselves. They towed their fallen comrades, knowing bringing back as much of the mechas that fell in battle were pivotal in combat.

it had been nearly one hour of intense combat at the station but Martian forces now overwhelmed the Alliance defenders. They rushed the station with high velocity assault carbines, loaded with Fachette rounds and high explosive fragmentation rounds. They used gas grenades and every soldier was prepared with oxygen suits in-case they were exposed.

The Commandos made short work of the Alliance rag-tag defenders as ship per ship and station per station was boarded and overwhelmed by the shock tactics of the Martians.

Within the station, dozens of science teams entered the ship on the second wave once the commando's had secured most of the bulkheads and began to mop up the remaining defenders. Summarily exceuting everyone on board the station. It was to spare them a painful death.

Admiral Vallysedigh went on a direct hail to his chief science officer Victor Leung " Commander, kill the power, over ride the engines and replace the terminals. We have the back ups ready to be moved into the science once you kill it " The science officer nodded " Sir, we are in place and ready to go " He hooked up an encrypted and hardened tablet to the computer when he entered the alliance kill of 0200 which basically killed the power in the station, permanently. From gravity, to life support, to warp core was completely shut off and fried.

" Predictable, they would put kill codes on the computer. Thats fine, we brought our own. " Knowing the mainframe of the computer was the source of the codes. They began to load a new warp system terminal, along with a new set of fusion warp cores to power the station. The science teams began to dismantle the computers in the mainframe and began to take them apart, fragging the computers.

Within the station, it was chaos as the commandos turned on their gravity boots, and remained attached to the surface they were on. They're suits kept them good, as the station's temperature began to plummet to sub-zero temperatures and vacuum of air caused tremendously pain internally to anyone who was exposed without care. Afterwards, most of the commandos consolidated themselves and rearmed on their assault craft, heading towards their mother-ships while distinct teams stayed back to defend the scientists incase anyone did manage to survive.

Within Alliance ships withdrawing, the Martians saw this to gain the initiative and began to advance on the Terran forces, smashing them with upclose ordnance as the Martian fleet tried to over run them and disable as many ships as possible.

While the battle in orbit began to finish up and it was clear it was the Martians who would mop up. Hundreds of commando teams began to board and overwhelm the isolated Alliance shippers which the Martians overwhelmed.

Dozens of towing ships began to tow wreckage that was usable, damaged vessels and captured ones to the shipyards at Deimos which was one of the only shipyards besides on Mars which could produce heavy-tonnage warships and was critical to the Martian war effort.

However Admiral Vallysedigh ordered the passage around mar's backside to mined with high-yield sub atomic nuclear mines to slow down and funnel the Alliance ships. He knew that Mars had a wide orbit and only chance they would have to defense was to choose the front, choose they're next battle and Terrans were cocky in their superiority, they would face them head on at their choosing if they massed.

Several dozen destroyers were quickly reassigned to guard the miners as they began to use various asteroids as cover barriers as they mined the orbit from Phobos to Demios and Demios to the space station, effective make one massive front which the first battle of the Line occurred. This would keep the Martian fleet contained from attacking Phobos, giving the Terrans a good chance to consolidate and regroup their forces without Martian harassment however the on flip side, it gave the Martian surface weapons a direct area to focus their weapons on the next attack. Effective limiting where the Terrans could attack, which was the upper right quadrants where Ares and most of the Martian colonies were but also the bulk of their defensive network.

A Message to the governments of Saepan, Venus, United Kingdom, Neptune, Alpha Centauri,

I, President Tom Ford of the Martian Transitional Government or MTG have declared our fifth intention to gain independence and we have had to return to militaristic actions to gain this. We are ambitious and we are committed to the armed struggle of freedom and we ask for assistance from our Independent brothers and sisters to help us sustain our growing nation and to break from the binds of Alliance tyranny. We ask if you can support us, whether it be monetary, with material, men or war ships, outdated or old. We will take them or continue to harass the Alliance. We ask of any and all assistance and we will repay you once we become free.

Best Regards,
Tom Ford,
President of Martian Transitional Government

With a message sent from Martian high command, they were hoping to score some warships or guns, weapons, anything they could need. It was going to be a long and tremendous conflict and they needed everything they could get their hands on.

Battle of Ares
Martian Capital

With the Martian forces engaging the Alliance force outside the capital. Commander Selim von Haven, Wolfgang's older brother ordered a massive counter barrage focused on the center of the Alliance armor and enter infantry lines. As hundreds of Martian unloaded high fragmentation and HEAT weapons at the Terrans. An order was given to launch two dozen small low-yield atomic weapons all over the front line as the Alliance forces soaked in these heavy losses. The Martians committed their vanguard and reserve force of nearly 18,000 men in a massive coordinated strike at their center to cause a tear and cut the Alliance army into two isolated pockets which could they surrounded and engage and twiddle them down.

Mechanized infantry, heavy tanks charged forward in a massive and sudden barrage, with a fair share of units not properly shielded against the Radiation but it didn't matter since the Alliance forces would have destroyed the bulk of the first wave as the Martians charged into the radiated clouds, firing onwards at the Terrans.

They were hoping to catch the defenders which would be utterly shocked and devastated from enduring atomic saturation then to face organized elements of Martian forces. They were hoping to cut off and force the rest of the Alliance forces to fall back and leave Ares and allow them to recapture the River system.

Operation: RED STAR

As the Martian Scientists cannibalized the stations terminal and computers the mainframe activated and all controls locked up. Every outside keyboard simply shut off, every external terminal, hard-drive or access point on the station was rendered useless. Meanwhile on a screen in the command center an image swam up.

"External Command Authorized, Manual Reboot from Earth: Activated"
<<Command Code: RED STAR
PASSWORD INPUT:STAR FALLEN>>

Even though the Martians had their own Kill codes they the Alliance would at the cost of the stations achieve some small respite. The Stations Gravity Locks disengaged, sending the mass tonnages of metal and all towards Mars.

The Mechs of the Alliance similarily began a full retreat, using tow cables to have their comrades trailing behind them. Fleeing towards Phobos and the nearest Alliance Starships. The Alliance Fleet itself while suffering damage turn and ran at full speed to Phobos. Focusing shields behind them and Fighters/Bombers returning to dock. The Alliance Fleet could outrun the Martians with their largely superior technological advantage. Especially with Fusion Reactors made with top grade materials to propel them. The battle was costly with dozens of assault craft lost, the Mecha units in space lost 50% of their forces. No ship in the Fleet was undamaged and it was clear that the Battle was over.

Ground Front
As Operation Red Star was activated the Alliance Ground Forces retreated under the shields of their bases around the Martian capital and the Bunkers within those shields. Their they would hunger down and wait for the Alliance counter offensive which was soon to come. Many of the Atomic weaponry used by the Martians did take their toll on the Alliance but many were intercepted. The Alliance forces had retreated with heavy losses.

Overall the Martians did have two victories but at a tremendous cost of life on their side as well. Many of their soldiers were dead, many of their units had been destroyed whole sale and the Martians would mourn along with the Terrans for the losses suffered.

Moon Base

As the 81 Ganymede Counter-Attack fleet left and was now relatively far away another Fleet was preparing for Launch. The Alliance was committing much of their Fleet Forces on Grand Admiral Gregory Reginald from Virginia. Grand Admiral Reginald had been authorized by the Alliance High Command AHCOM to mobilized 100 Starships, the bulk of the Alliance Naval Forces at the Moon. With the Fleet mobilization underway the Army gathered 500,000 Soldiers with 40,000 support persoonel and Divisions worth of Tanks and vehicles. The Alliance was mobilizing the bulk of its remaining Standing military. 20 Squadrons of Mechas were also activated and the SWD or Special Warfare Division was green lighted to begin operations with the main force.

Operation SPRING AWAKENING was a go.

Ganymede Relief Fleet

The Ganymede Relief Fleet or GRL for short was just under six days travel from Ganymede and already some were uneasy. The Naval Intelligence Reports indicated that Saepani Forces despite the Heroic efforts of the 52nd Armored Division in halting the Saepani along their front, were advancing on all others. Several towns and villages had fallen and the Japanese 5th Light Infantry Division managed to get a report out that an additional 420 Casualties had been tolled up with nearly a thousand Colonial Militia.

This is Admiral Nathanial di Eraldi of the Alliance Navy. We are just under six days distance from Ganymede. By Order of General Lukas Ernsworth in charge of he Alliance Ground Forces with us, you are now Acting Commander on the Ground until our arrival. Your orders are to hold as much ground as possible while preserving as much of your unit as possible. Preservation of Landing Zones in prioritized over all. Good Luck Colonel.

Ganymede front

"52nd Actual. This is Colonial Militia Garrison Two-Two-B we are 1km West of the 52nd's Right Flank at coordinates 24-48-Grid 12/C asking for AT support. We are reporting a column of Saepani tanks, Heavies. Looks like two Platoons of Tanks with three Companies of supporting Mechanized Infantry. Full vehicles compliment. This is CM (Colonial Militia) Second Leutinent Regus Larose. Over."
As Larose put down the Comms he looked again through the binoculars and saw the Saepan forces advancing. Sporadic Artillery fire could be heard and every now and then the boom crash of ordnance from aircraft was heard. Around him were the bloodied soldiers of his Platoon. 36 soldiers, he lost a squads worth of men in Ganymede City and folded the rest into three squads, 1, 2 and 3.

The Colonial Militia although trained for defensive purposes and defending the colony they were not down right professional soldiers. They could hold their own but for so long and often did not 100% of the equipment available like the Professional Alliance Army Troopers. But he had his men arrayed in an abandoned Monastery Complex. With a central spire, walls and some a church that could hold a few hundred people comfortably. He had a sniper in the spire and an MG Team at the entrance and exit on opposite sides of the church. Along with Squad Support Submachine Gun carrying troops (4 soldiers) held back in the church. Otherwise his men were arrayed behind the walls, a pair of Militiamen were loading a HTPDR or Handheld Tank Piercing Disposable Round. A self contained weapon system that would fire a medium ranged AT Round capable of piercing Tank Armor up too 1100 Yards if a direct hit was achieved. He saw his men wait by the MG Team and readied the weapon, aiming at the lead tank.

Then as the Tanks got closer the Militiamen made minute adjustments, followed by the shouting of, "Clear!." A trail of smoke shot out and the round was away, punching into the lead Saepani Tank with concussive force that it seemed to stop for a moment. Flame shot out of the driver slits and although the tank did not explode it was evident that the crew was dead. One Knocked out tank was good enough.

"INCOMING!"

Larose couldn't tell from what Militiaman it came from but a boom was heard to his left as part of the wall was reduced to rubble. The Saepan Second Tank had opened fire. Followed by the other seven tanks. The Saepani Mechanized Infantry 4 IFVs also opened fire with 30mm Cannons and four APCs of 12 Saepan Soldiers inside each began to race forward. His men however did not open fire but hunkered down. Waiting as the Saepan soldiers deployed and began to open small arms fire. Then the MG rattled and the Assault rifle carrying Militiamen opened fire. Taking down three Saepani Soldiers in a flurry of rounds before he shouted, "Fall back!"

His men could fight infantry, but not Tanks with the equipment they had. Sure they took out one, but another seven plus all the vehicles and Soldiers with them would spell death for his men.

Ganymede, Crusader Element

“INCOMING!” Ironsides shouted just a second before a large caliber artillery round slammed into the turret of his Crusader. It didn’t explode; thank the stars, so it seemed that the Saepani were using smart munitions and had the primer set for a greater distance. The enemy crew wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. “Get us the hell out of here!” Ironsides shouted, his ears ringing. The small holographic tank display showed that there was now a considerable dent where that shell had hit. Better than the tank being blown in half, that was for sure. As he shook his head to try and clear up some of the ringing Ironsides could hear the cannon firing. Smith was laying down a smoke screen. The tank lurched and started to speed backwards.

It had been a day since the message from the fleet had come back, and the Saepani had become hell-bent on pushing the 52nd Division from its positions. They were paying in blood for every inch they managed to take. The Crusader rolled back into a small thicket of woods, where the rest of Ironsides’ Alpha Company had fallen back too, settling into a position near a large boulder that protected them from incoming fire. Holding his still ringing head, Ironsides pushed the comm-unit to his ear, listening to any reports coming in. One caught his attention, a request of help from the colonial militia. As the man read off his position, Ironsides brought up a mental image. He nodded to himself as he recalled the nearest units. Raptor One and her gunships were right near there, as well as some mechanized infantry units.

“Raptor One, this is Crusader Actual. I need you to divert to 24-48-Grid 12/C. A militia unit needs some support. How copy?” Ironsides said into the comm. It was a few seconds before she replied.

“Crusader Actual, Raptor hears you loud and clear. I’ll divert to render assistance now. Suggest you send some ground units in, we are RTB (Return to base) in less than ten. Raptor One, out.” The ace pilot said. Ironsides nodded, already having ordered a few mechanized squads to the grid. The Saepani, and the militia, were in for one hell of a show.

------
Raptor Element

“Alright ladies, you heard the Colonel. We go in and smash the area, then get back to base to refuel.” Captain Jeanette Vasquez said into the element-comm, getting back several enthusiastic confirmations. Vasquez smiled. This is what they had trained for. Six of her GS-Eagle-50s’, including her own, broke out of the larger formation, the gap being filled in by other gunships. A quick scan of her instrument panel showed that Vasquez was fully set to engage. She had 17 guided rockets left, two thousand rounds for the auto-cannon, and 2 AGTM-45’s (Air to ground thermobaric missiles). She smiled to herself. She had noticed that the Saepani seemed to like to cluster up when attacking, at least on this end of the front. Probably some idiot commander who was trying to bludgeon his way thought the flank and into the support areas. Not today.

The Eagles’ quickly closed in on the target, Vasquez keying the comm-link as her targeting computer picked out targets. “Lieutenant Larose, this is Captain Vasquez, callsign Raptor One. Crusader Actual said you could use a hand. Get your men down and cover your ears. This will be loud.” She said with a grin, all her munitions locked on. Her tactical computer informed her that the rest of her gunships were set too. With a flick of a switch her weapons were armed. “All right Raptor, lets wipe them out.” She said, pulling the trigger for the weapons. In a flurry of action nearly fifty guided rockets were launched. Red tracer rounds ripped through the sky, all pounding the enemy forces. As the munitions hit home, the entire area lit up like a Christmas tree. And to finish the show, Vasquez armed her two AGTMs’ and sent them flying toward the bulk of the remaining enemy forces. The explosion was beyond impressive. She even felt a hint of the shock-wave even in her gunship.

“This is Raptor One, we cleared out most of the attacking forces. Ground units are five minutes out. We are RTB. See you ground side, militia.” Vasquez said, turning her gunship, the flight heading toward the forward operations base to refit and refuel.

Ganymede
Monastery

Raptor Element had taken out all but one of the enemy Tanks, which had turret damage so that it could not turn its main gun; knocked out the APCs and only one IFVs was fully operation with minor damage. Another had a track knocked off and damage to its main armaments. Only its secondary armament of 2x 20mm Cannons on the side of the vehicles remained active. It was a sitting duck considering few of the enemy remained alive or uninjured. Only 18 Saepani Infantry men remained uninjured, a squad and a half while the rest either cried out wounded or were lifeless heaps of flesh. The Gunships had done their job quite well.

"Raptor Element, good work." said Larose over the comms and he turned worked along the wall going from man to man giving orders. "We'll take down the Infantry still in the field and flank the tank. As he finished the Tank sent another shell crashing into the monastery. While Larose sniper fired from his perch Larose looked and saw A Saepani soldier lurch backwards from a shot through the neck. His MG team opened sporadic fire to keep the enemy suppressed as 1st Squad moved in from the entrance to gun down the remaining enemy soldiers. While 2nd Squad moved out from the back of the monastery towards the last enemy tank which had to fully turn to acquire a target. 3rd Squad remained in the Monastery and provided support fire for 1st Squad which was engaging the enemy. Another enemy soldier dropped from 1st Squads guns, then another and another. While 2nd Squad men ran up and tossed grenades through the viewing slits of the enemy tank. Scurrying for cover as the tank exploded, showering the area in shrapnel.

The remaining enemy soldiers began to retreat as Saepani rocket artillery began to fall down upon the Monastery. Larose did not bother chasing the Saepani and told his men to fall back to the Monastery. The Saepani know doubt would be halted on this sector for a couple hours.

Overview of Ganymede Campaign
Meanwhile as the events at the Monastery were transpiring the Japanese 5th Light Infantry managed to recapture a bridge over the Serine River, a River that wound around Ganymede City to the South into the mountains. Pushing a Saepani Infantry Battalion back across the River where a fierce cross river gunfight was taking place. Artillery duels between the remains of Japanese 5th Artillery, Colonial Militia Artillery and Saepani Artillery Battalions took place all along the Front towards the South, East and North.

Along the 52nd Armored Frontage the Saepani forces consolidated, withdrawing from contested ground and reinforcing ground taken. However heavy Saepani Artillery began to fall, Heavy caliber shells in excess of 150mm along with Rocket artillery. A few small Guided missile strikes took place and took out some Colonial Convoys that got stuck in the open.

Saepani HQ, RSV Relentless

"General Quintus reports that the Alliance's 52nd Armored Division has stubbornly resisted but has pulled back in a couple sectors. The Alliance's Japanese 5th Light, A scattered and largely spent force has managed to recapture a bridge over the Serine River. We have lost a few Mecha's by their guns as well." This was the voice of Saepani Admiral Gregory Serolanus. Serolanus was a grizzled Admiral who was a dedicated Naval Officer and a stout supporter of the Republic's war effort. To whom he was speaking too Saepani Mecha Commander, Major Darus Kaelmedus, Commander of Mecha Squadron 15, "Republics Finest."

"I take it you want me to engage the Armored Division?" said Kaelmedus.

"No." replied Serolanus.

"Couldn't we just commence an Orbital Bombardment?" stated Kaelmedus.

"Again, No. If we commence an orbital bombardment then the Alliance will reply in kind at the first chance they get. Plus we need the colony as intact as possible." replied Serolanus.

"You will retake the Bridge first. Then we will break out to the East and South." continued Serolanus. Kaelmedus Nodded and gathered his Squadron in the Relentless's Drop Hanger. They memorized their orders and got into their Second Generation Zero-4 Mechas. The Saepani Mechas were of Green color scheme and these had been painted for Greenery Camouflage.

"Ready for Orbital Drop." said Kaelmedus as he fastened his helmet and the HUD activated itself. All systems were a go and then a confirmation reply from the bridge signaled drop in 5...4...3...2...1. The Floors beneath each Mecha opened and one by one they dropped. They entered the atmosphere to the South of Ganymede city and crashed down 5 miles South of the Bridge over the Serine. 3 miles North of the Town called Wilkinshire, the 15th Squadron hunkered down and consulted their battle map before beginning the march North. The Alliance no doubt would eventually catch on of this strategic insertion but for now they were going to be a surprise.

Martian Orbit,

In a very intense moment, the Martians had rebooted and fried the entire system, causing the fallen star intiative to halt however they completely severed every component of the station completely destroying every electrical system. Basically leaving the entire station dead and rendered useless. The Martian orders were to withdraw and consolidate their losses and try to regain the initiative.

With most of the orbital defensive platforms either crippled or hijacked by Martian commandos. Orders were given to quickly patch them up and brign them to working order so they can used for the upcoming defensive line for Mars.

With several dozen Alliance ships surrounded and crippled. The Martians overwhelmed the crews and began to tow the vessels to the shipyard at Demos. Which was the other outlying massive space farring shipyard the Martians had with the exception of the underground facilities on Mar's proper. The Orders were to hold and defend the Moon if the Alliance forces decided to turn tail and smash their only major space-feeding shipyard. ( Building ships in space is far easier/faster then on surface ).

With a third of the Martian fleet damaged or lost, orders were given to patch up ships, mid-space and prepare for the Upcoming Alliance counter offensive which woud take a week at most which gave the Martians some critical time to patch and prepare their defensives.

Ares, Capital of Mars
Outskirts - Site of First Battle

With Alliance forces pulling back, the Martians began to press forward and try to route the withdrawing Alliance forces despite the heavy toll. Knowing if they could smash their beachhead, they would make it hell if they had to land again. They brought up their forward artillery batteries and began to create a massive noose to entrap and surround the Alliance forces. They began to close their forces, bringing up their reserves as well as calling up their fresh conscripts and pressing them into battle.

The Martians didn't much have in the way of heavy armour or APC's so alot of the forces were carried by taxis and shuttles and aerial transports and massive amounts of chemical/biological weapons were used as a screening wall to keep the Alliance forces from exploiting their advancing forces being redeployed.

However with alot of proper heavy armor and weapons, the Martian began was to aerial bombard the Alliance forces and begin to wither them down and cause a heavy toll on their firepower.

Mars Orbit

With the Alliance forces completely withdrawing from Orbit, this allowed the Martians Mecha companies to begin drops into Orbit. Wolfgang lead the first drop with twenty 25 Mechs, the first three companies were rebranded and sent in as the first force to soften up the withdrawing Alliance forces while various orbital weapons were now put into effect as the Martians began to use their ordnance to bombard the Alliance positions and smash whatever remaining installations they had as their Ground forces began to advance.

It began to look very bleak for the Alliance forces on the ground.

Mars
Alliance Fleet

As the Alliance Fleet fled to Phobos it took stock of its situation. Casualties had been high and the losses of material were enormous, yet the Fleet had not been destroyed, only gravely wounded. The situation looked bleak but the safety of Phobos would allow the Fleet commanders to plan a strategy of attacking the Martians at their weakest points. While conserving men and material until the Alliance Counter-Offensive arrives. Which was going to be soon.

Moon Base

The Alliance Moon Base, seat of the Alliance's main space docking facilities was now almost empty except for Defensive ships and patrol boats. The 100 Strong Martian Counter attack Fleet was gathering and its might was awe inspiring. The Amount of soldiers and material it had inside was greater than any military campaign yet taken in the colonies. A massive force and also the hope of Alliance Restoration on Mars, followed by the Alliance's hopefully swift victories at Ganymede would shore up Alliance Colonies, and put the Earth forces in a position to strike back at Saepan. Which would then hopefully end the war if Saepan was attacked by an overwhelming Alliance military.

Orbit over Mars

Admiral Vallysedigh ordered all available ships to preload their atomic ordnance and began to preparea attack formations as the Martians had broken their fleet into three fighting groups consisting of the remainder of the ships.

They ordered all damaged vessels to restock and repair themselves Admiral Vallysedigh sent a halo message across the fleet. " The Terrans will come. Let us deliver the first strike! "

One carrier, two battleships, one Dreadnaught and flagship of Martian fleet dubbed "Romulus", 12 Cruisers, 18 Frigates, 19 Destroyers, 8 Assault Frigates, Two Space Barrages, 145 Modern starfighters, another 125 older generation fighters, 58 gunboats.

Leading the line, Admiral Vallysedigh ordered his two battleships, his personal Dreadnought to take the remaining healthy fleet of 7 Cruisers, 10 Frigates, 12 Destroyers, 6 assault Frigates and with the star-fighters being held to reserve to protect Martian Orbit.

With Phobos fleet wedged between a massive minefield and remainder of a dozen cruisers, destroyers, assault frigates and two barrages and one carrier.

Within a moment, the Martian fleet entered warp and headed to the Lunar base.

Lunar Base Orbit

This must've came as a massive shock as the appearance of a Half the Martian fleet came out of Warp with subatomic ordnance and heavy weapons blarring. The flotilla of ships was heavy vessels launching massive payloads at the Alliance ships in the ship yards and targeting the barracks and refueling systems. This wasn't a direct attack with a purpose of crippling the fleet. It was to pound the hell out of The moon, cause chaos and havoc and buy more time for Mars and to send the Terran fleet back. The Martian's use of atomic weaponry had been very clear, they had violated various agreements but they had not signed since they were colony and use restricted weapons to cause chaos to the Terrans. They dropped ordnance which allowed them to stay out of the line of sight or firing range of the orbital defense platforms. As soon as the Alliance forces consolidated and prepared to counter attack, the Martians fled, withdrawing back to Warp.
