The Carthaginian king had made a foolish error. Being so close to the general feigning peace, the Almohad, dagger in hand, thrust it into the king's neck, and everyone was silent for a single, terse moment.

The stunned Carthaginian bodyguards looked at the general, and promptly charged at him. With the attack on the king, there was no peace now. The resulting fury could hardly be described.

Al Adil and all the other soldiers stopped and looked at the emperor bleeding out on the ground. Stunned. One of the bodyguards acted a few moments later and charged the Almohad general. Al Adil called out
"Stop all of you do you not see your leader is dead. Lay down your weapons and surrender and you will be spared continue fighting and you will be swiftly dealt with."
Al Adil looked to see if the men would stop if they didnt he told his men to continue fighting. In the meantime Al Adil stopped and knelt beside the emperor. He spoke the last rites to him as he slowly choked to death on his own blood.
"Sleep well my brother. I will see you in the afterlife."

Blue Harbor

The Kievan ships disengaged along with their prizes and went back to the Harbor. Yargov immediately ordered the Longship Crews to prep the boat for launch.

Carthage

The Kievan Commander, seeing the Emperor fall, and the second wall be breached, knew the City was a loss. Ordering the Companies and Blocks to fall back to the harbor, he also sent a horn call to the two engaged companies and blocks below. The units acknowledged and withdrew to a sallyport, where the orderly withdrew. The Companies walked back to the docks, where the ships awaited.

Royal Treasury of Carthage

The Kievan troops, some one hundred of them sent by Yargov, busted down the door and entered the Treasury. While it was small, there was enough to guarantee every man would go home happy.

Louis Wittelsbach of Bavaria was having the fight of his life. The Almohads were overrunning the cities defenses and not much hope was left. Many good Christian men had been lost so far, and he was determined not to lose any more. Retreat was the only option left. Fighting over to his subordinates, he gave a quick order:

"Order the troops to fall back to the pier. All hope to escape will be lost if the boats are taken. We have to hold the harbor at all costs. Go now, MOVE!!!"

As the order was being carried out, he turned to another trusted officer,

"Wilhelm, I need you to to keep a company here and defend our backs. I need someone like you to protect my rear."

The man nodded and sprinted over to his soldiers, fighting all the way. Louis stabbed another Almohad warrior and then scrambled to rejoin his army in the defense of the pier.

From Conciliator Kolinski
To King of Hungary

Greetings. I am Conciliator Kolinski, head of state of the Russian-Kipchak Federation of Pereyaslavl. The People's Council and I agree that an alliance between our peoples could be mutually beneficial. We are sending Chief Ambassador Alexeyev of Luhans'k to Hungary as I write this letter. We hope that a strong long lasting bond can be forged between our people.

Khwarezm Sultanate/Persia

"Aiiiiii!" Hundreds of riders rode through the small village, slaying those in their paths.

"Grab what you can carry boys!" Ogedei Khan rode with them, cutting down a fleeing peasant. Riders smashed into homes, grabbing valuables, food, and weapons. The village was a smoking ruin in a matter of thirty minutes.

Near Persepolis

"Ogedei Khan." Mossul bowed and entered the Khan's yurt.

"Ah, Mossul, what news?" Ogedei Khan asked the scout.

"We are nearing a region known as the Byzantine Empire." Mossul said.

"I see. Will it be a problem?" Ogedei asked.

"There are large bodies of water in our path, large bodies that we cannot cross. Might I advise we head north? The men of the Golden Horde have long suffered under the rule of this... Pact." Mossul said.

"Hm... it seems we have no choice. Tell the riders that the Khan instructs them to head northwards. I have heard tales of this Russia, Kiev, even a small area called Pereyaslavl." Ogedei said.

"Yes, strange lands with their Tsars, Princes and Conciliators. They shall be subject to the Khan." Mossul smiled.

"We ride on Persepolis first. The Shah will bow down to the Mongols before we move north." Ogedei said.

Treznibca, Russo-Silesian Border

Peter could tell from the wide-eyed stares of the few peasants the massive host had passed that they had never seen a force nearly the size of the one marching now upon Silesia. Five Great Companies and two Mounted Regiments had been amassed for the invasion and punishment of the Silesian kingdom, to chastise them gently and bring them into the holy fold of the Grand Prince and the Orthodox Church. The Crown Prince of the Imperium rode at the fore of the first Great Company with his commanders, discussing strategy based on what the scouts had brought word of. A small skirmish at the border had gone heavily in favor of the sons of Russia, with the trained soldiers of the host crushing a Silesian light cavalry force with Lancer charges and the deadly steel rain of the Riders. Now they pressed on towards the heart of the heathen infestation; some Christians in these lands had all but begged the Russian soldiers they had encountered to overthrow the corrupt false king, and those who paid only lip-service to the name of the Lord would now pay for their arrogance.

Khosanay, Vitar Province, Great Russia

"..and the line will stretch from here in the north all the way to the shores of the Aral Sea in the south. We shall secure our borders against any threat coming out of the unexplored east, and secure this land for the good of our progeny and generations to come with stone and mortar." Highprince Dmitri smiled as his engineers and generals nodded in approval. Such an act had been a long time in coming, but inevitable; when the position of Highprince was first created and the Kipchaki people first tamed, some fifteen years ago now, many fortresses had been constructed across the length and breadth of the new Russian territories as a general policy of the Grand Prince. Now Dmitri would continue his fathers work, and construct more heavily-fortified outposts each only six hours march from each other to make safe the land in a wide belt from the north near Volga Bulgaria to the south by the borders of the Khwarezm heathens. Regular mounted patrols would link the network of strongholds, but construction would take some time and a large portion of the Highprince's treasuries to construct, though less to maintain. No price could be put on security for the Great Russian people though.

Munak, Khawarezm Sultanate

A small dour man sat down at the table where the merchant of the Cumans ate. The Russian trader looked up, saw the man's nervous demeanor, and smiled.

"You have nothing to fear from me friend, only much to gain. Speak freely."

This didn't seem to put the informant at ease, but rather he began to sweat profusely. Surly in appearance and swarthy of skin, the worker leaned forward. Mikhael could smell the sour taste of old wine on his breath from this far away, but forced himself to lean forward too. Information was valuable to the Grand Prince and his emissaries, as valuable as gold, and this man had been reliable in the past.

"I hear stories, Gregor" - for such was the false name of the Great Russian agent- "stories of vast hordes from the East. They burn and pillage in the east provinces of this very Sultanate, and the Shah's men seem powerless to stop them. I...." He signaled to the bartender "I really need a drink. I'm moving my goods north into the lands of the Pact, I doubt things will look good here for a while. You should probably do likewise."

The informant thought he merely wanted business news; Mikhael did indeed- he ran a legitimate business in Munak as well as being an agent for the Grand Prince's men- but this news needed to go north at once.

Mikhael rose from the table. "This news is very valuable, thank you Adal." He pulled a small sack of coin from his pocket, dinars, not grivnas, and placed it before the man. "Have another drink."

News of the Mongolian invasion went north by the fastest ship along the shores of the Caspian, and thence to the authorities of the Highprince, and even then on to the Kremlin itself.

Bolghar, Volga Bulgaria

Petrov smiled at Abal, and then turned back to his books. His investments in the lands of the Bolghars were doing well- aided by his marriage to the daughter of their king no doubt- and he was rapidly becoming a very wealthy man indeed. Trade between his holdings and the people of the Volga had increased exponentially with the conclusion of the marriage; the pagans now saw him as one of their own, a handy illusion.

Suddenly one of the local couriers rushed into the trading house, crying aloud to all the people within: "The Prince! The Prince is dead!"

The Prince, a son of the second wife of the king, had been killed in a hunting accident it appeared. Abal merely sniffed, her pretty nose turned up in disdain. The Prince had been a drunkard like his father, and no friend to his sibling. Now there was no one in line for the throne of Volga Bulgaria though, and the old man would have to get busy to produce an heir.

To Conciliator Anton Andreyavich Kolinski,
Greetings. We see no reason why Pereyaslavl, the Russian-Kipchak Federation of Pereyaslavl, should be thrown aside from the Pact for merely deposing a mad king who failed his duties to the people. As such, the Grand Prince and the Council of Nobles welcome the return of peace and the rule of law in Pereyaslavl, and look forward to many years of friendship and cooperation to come.
By the Grace of Our Lord, Grand Prince Alexei Romanov of the Great Russian Imperium

To the King of Hungary,
Great Russia and her people would be most interested in the creation of a mutually beneficial trade pact with your people, to include lessened tariffs and taxes on enterprises of both our nations in the realm of the other.
By the Grace of Our Lord, Grand Prince Alexei Romanov of the Great Russian Imperium

Luhans'k

Yuri Alexeyev, son of the famous general and ambassador was busy packing his bags.

"Yuri!" Vladimir Alexeyev poked his head into the room.

"Father." Yuri bowed.

"What are you doing?" Vladimir asked.

"Packing. I'm coming with you to Hungary, after all?" Yuri asked.

"No. Your place is here." Vladimir turned and walked away.

"Father! I'm ready. Please, take me with you." Yuri protested. Vladimir stopped and said,

"No. That's final." He turned and walked away.

Hours later, Yuri was wandering around Shimenskoi Prospekt. The sun had gone down.

"Hey there." A voice said from the shadows. Yuri spun and gripped the hilt of a dagger. To his surprise, he saw a girl standing there, around twenty years of age. Covered in filth and emaciated, she might have once been pretty, beautiful even. But poverty had taken its dreadful toll and a mere ghost stood before him.

"Greetings." Yuri bowed, feeling self conscious in his regalia.

"I am Yuri of House Alexeyev."

"I'm Nadezhda." The girl said.

"I'm honored, Nadezhda." Yuri nodded his head respectfully. Feeling awkward, he reached into his pocket and pulled out five gold pieces. He handed them to her.

"Thank 'ee." Nadezhda bowed humbly, almost turned away, then looked at him and said,

"You're a very pretty man." And with that, she bounded away.

Yuri continued walking, confused. For his whole life, he had never thought of the poor and never appreciated the wealth and opulence he had lived in. Nadezhda had changed all that in a few seconds. She was so innocent... so free. Yuri looked and saw a man steal an apple. It took almost three seconds for a group of children to pounce on him and steal the apple from him, running off, tearing up the fruit for a few bites. Yuri walked up to the vendor, without saying anything, bought the largest, ripest apple and paid double the actual price. He pressed a gold piece to the side of it, and walked past the beggar man. Suddenly, it slipped from his hands and rolled towards the man. Yuri cursed his clumsiness and walked away.

Seeing the withdrawal of the Christian forces, the Almohad caliph ordered a full charge. With no one to stand in the way, the gate was opened from the inside, allowing the Muslim forces to pour in.

Those Muslims that had stayed inside their homes or helped the siege were spared, everyone else was mowed down. Fires began to be set all over the city, and a horrible night of looting and rape began.

The Almohad navy, seeing the Christians retreat, did not pursue. The Kievans and Bavarians ran like cowards to their boats, carrying what they could of Carthage's treasury.

Though the caliph had wanted to personally approach the emperor, it mattered not. By dawn, the city was a smoldering ruin, an ashpile of the glorious metropolis it once was. All male Chrisitians were executed, down to the youngest baby, while all women were enslaved, given to the highest ranking officers and then sold amongst the Ayyubid/Almohad forces. The caliph was offered the queen herself, but declined, instead offering her to the Ayyubid sultan. A parade was held through the streets, showing off the treasure, the captives and the caliph and sultan holding hands, as is custom to express friendship.

At noon, a grand feast was had, pillaged from the large stockpiles of food in the city. Finally, at sunset, the city was razed. Anything of value was taken, and the resident Muslims were allowed their property and permission to resettle into another village or city, paid for by the caliph himself. A new border was established, granting all land east of Tunisia to the Ayyubids, while the Almohads kept Tunisia itself.

24 hours following the caliph's charge into the city, there was little to suggest that anything prosperous once thrived here.

"The Emperor rose, hot blood trickling down his neck from the treacherous attack of the Alhomad under parley. His eyes were filled with rage at such a base betrayal of the rules of engagement; thankfully the dagger had been largely deflected by his mail hauberk, and so the leader of Carthage bore only a nasty cut on the side of his neck instead of being dead. With a mighty cry of 'Deus Vult!' he rammed his blade into the abdomen of the Moslem heathen through the man's light armor, taking advantage of his foe's belief that the Emperor had been felled; the sons of Carthage were not so easily cast down. He drew forth his blade from the man's belly wet with blood and thrust it home once, twice more. Black blood spurted from the heathen's mouth, staining his lips dark and scarlet, and the treacherous warrior's eyes widened as he realized the shock of his own mortality. With a final cry of effort the Emperor unsheathed his blade from the body of his enemy one last time, and swung it with great force to cleave the neck of the Alhomade. A slight resistance met his sword as steel met bone, and then the weapon swung clear; the head, still wearing an expression of shock, fell slowly backwards onto the ground. Then the body crumpled silently, a marionette with its strings cut. The Emperor whispered a brief prayer of thanks, and then stared warily at the Ayyubid lord."I say again, shall we have peace?"

The full brunt of the Almohads arround the fallen general charged at the king. Even with his bodyguards, a full host of several hundred frenzied troops descended upon the king.

The Kievans had retreated from the walls, going off to sack the Carthaginian treasury. This allowed the Almohads to pick off the remaining wall guards, as most of their force was below fighting in the courtyard. The Muslim troops began to flank the Christians from the side, smashing into them with utter zeal.

Yuri sighed as he returned to his mansion. He looked out his window and saw a hospital below. The twenty-two year old trotted down the stairs and into the hospital.

"Hello!" The doctor said cheerfully.

"Hello, I'm Yuri of House Alexeyev." Yuri bowed.

"Oh, your father's famous!" The doctor gasped in reverence.

"Tell me Comrade Doctor, how many patients have you?" Yuri asked.

"Thirty." The doctor said.

"Thirty! How do they all fit in here?" Yuri gasped, looking around the tiny building.

"They don't. There are some in beds out back. We built a fire back there so they don't freeze." The doctor said.

"It does not seem fair that thirty suffering patients have this tiny motel and my father and I live in the enormous mansion next door. Please, I would like us to trade buildings." Yuri said.

"You would?" The doctor asked, incredulous.

"I would." Yuri's head bobbed.

"I cannot. It's too great an offer." The doctor shook his head.

"You must, or the patients out back will die." Yuri offered.

"I can even help you move them. I can buy you drugs for them. Come on!" The two men labored, pushing beds into the mansion.

"Yuri?" Vladimir Alexeyev was walking downstairs, about to leave for Hungary when he saw his son and the doctor moving beds.

"I've sold the house, father. We're living in that hospital next door." Yuri said.

"What! No!" Vladimir shrieked.

"Thirty patients need this house more than we do." Yuri responded.

"We are House Alexeyev! We don't simply live squatting in some motel!" Vladimir bellowed.

"We are House Alexeyev. We don't simply let the poor die!" Yuri countered.

"You want to live like a peasant? Fine, I'm disowning you!" Vladimir roared.

"Fine!" Yuri shouted, and stormed out.

"The house is still the new hospital, right?" The doctor asked.

"No!" Vladimir hissed, and left. Yuri walked back in.

"I still have a large sum of money. I can purchase another house and you can move some patients there, and keep some in the old hospital." Yuri offered.

"Mr. Alexeyev?" A voice asked. Nadezhda was leaning against a column.

"Ah, Nadezhda. What a coincidence." Yuri turned.

"This is doctor... what is your name, doctor?" He asked.

"I'm Ivan Menlov." The doctor bowed.

"No need to bow, I'm not a noble anymore." Yuri said.

"I bow to one I respect." The doctor said.

"Come, I'm going to find a home right now." Yuri said, a noble turned bourgeoisie. He did not notice Nadezhda staring.

Asmara, Yemen Kingdom

Emperor Assab looked at the fire that engulfed the city of Asmara. His catapults had been barraging the city for days and his men were eager for battle. 85,000 Ethiopians besieged the city and would soon fight 10,000 defenders. Assab had ordered for battering rams and ladders to readied as the sound of crashing stone and burning wood could be heard. The ethiopians readied their siege equipment and prepared their weapons. This final siege would bring the end of Yemen. When everything was ready the soldiers moved forward and the catapults ceased to fire. The ladders reached the walls and the ethiopian army began the butchering. The soldiers stormed the ill-equipped forces of Yemen and overran the walls. The battering rams in the meantime began to batter down the gates so more men could swarm the Yemeni ranks. Soon the gates were battered down and the men from the walls and outside charged the city. Emperor Assab ordered a full on assault and soon many of the men in the camps were entering battle was well. Hours of fighting ensued and the Ethiopians all but destroyed the city. Looting was widespread and the people of Asmara were taken prisoners. The ethiopians fought hard and pushed the Yemeni army into the city center. The cowardly lord of the city hid in his palace as his men were butchered in the streets. Assab himself entered the city and began to fight with his cavalry on the Northern quarter. The battle continued for several more hours and the sword arms of both sides tired. The city army had taken enough. The Lord of Asmara surrendered to Assab and his entire army was taken prisoner. The city was secured by the Ethiopian army and Assab and his men began to drink in celebration. While the rest of the Yemeni Kingdom was across the Red Sea Assab had destroyed most of their army, taken much of their treasury, and seized their main supply routes and their main armouries. Assab sent his terms to the Yemeni king.

Terms of the Treaty of Asmara

1. The Kingdom of Yemen will give its land to the Ethiopian empire
2. The Kingdom of Yemen will hand over its entire treasury
3. The Kingdom of Yemen will hand over it's army and navy to Ethiopia
4. The Kingdom of Yemen's people will become the subjects of Assab and pay his taxes
5. The Kingdom of Yemen's leader will become a prisoner of war and his old lands will be governed by an Ethiopian in the name of Assab

Signed Emperor Assab I of the Ethiopian Empire

After a few days the Yemeni King sent back a yes to the terms of the treaty. The Ethiopian Empire gained 40,000 men that were once in the Yemeni army, were supplied with more weapons and armour, captured a good amount of land, and gained a lot of money and tax payers. Assab was happy and now celebrated back in Assabia as his army began to lock down their new land and install the Ethiopian laws and police force. With one enemy crushed Assab could now begin to focus on new enemies on the horizon................

Barely after the battle had even really begun for the Pisan troops, it was over. The whole debacle was unmanageable; none of their allies had provided any real cooperation or support, the supplies were not the greatest, the enemies had WAY too many men, and there were doubts about the whole purpose of being there at all. Along with the Bavarians, the men were told to grab anything of value along the way and run for the ships, which would sail away as soon as all the men were aboard.

Al Adil nodded at the emperor then looked at the men charging forth.
"Stay your hands. If any try to harm this man they will be struck down where the stand."
Then motioning for the emperor to follow he said
"Your city will be destroyed there is nothing either you or I can do about that. Although we can try to save lives and not fight any further."
He reached the first ladder with his elite guard behind and following. Then motioned for the emperor to go ahead and down.

The Almohad general got back up and ordered his men to stand down for the time being.

"What are you saying, your highness? Are we to expel the Christians? I'd have to consult with the caliph.

The ships had left. Carthage had been ditched and left to die in the terrible inferno left behind. They would return to Pisa, where the troops could go home, small war victims' repatriations would be provided from what small loot had been taken, and essentially, hopefully, the whole debacle could be ignored.

The new walls, being dubbed the Double Wall, because of the appearance of it after the foundations had been laid, despite not being an actual double wall, was coming along nicely. It would near double the size of the land within Pisa's walls, and also connect the Complex. The plans were finalized and a lot of resources were being put into it. The city inside was also being designed well, with nice large streets, big blocks, and generally, beauty and functionality in every single way.

Luhans'k

"Righto, nice and cozy. Come on, let's move some beds." Yuri beheld his new house.

A few hours later, several hospital beds were in his house and he crashed on the mattress.

"Nadezhda, who is that?" Yuri asked, looking at a beautiful girl walking down the street.

"Some bourgeoisie thing." Nadezhda said, distastefully.

"I'm sorry to ask you to do anything for me, but could you please learn where she lives?" Yuri asked.

"What would you give me?" Nadezhda asked.

"Anything." Yuri said. Nadezhda pondered this.

"Fine. I'll go and see where your bourgeoisie lives." She left holding in tears.

The ships had arrived back at Pisa. The troops unpacked and were disbanded, after beign gvien their salaries. They would go home and resume normal civilian life, except for the few who were on duty as a garrison, and sort of as a police.

A new system was being undertaken. After an election where a candidate had won by a landslide of votes, he was promising revolutionary new ideas. He was proposing that women could vote. Of course, not beggars, criminals, foreigners or other such, but essentially, as many women as men would be able to vote. The country has very divided, but it was out there now. Meanwhile, the streets were all to be paved, eventually all over the countries, as well as a new service which would cart the refuse and waste away. it would need many many taxes, but such a rich state could afford them.

Jerusalem, Holy Land
With a mighty blow of the horn the Teutonic Knights had arrived from Antioch. Soon they and their Templar Brethren had formed their respective companies outside the great walls of the Holy City. In total, 8,000 Heavy Infantrymen, 10,000 Light infantry, 5,000 Heavy Cavalry and 7,500 Light Cavalry, generally made up of Turcopoles. Banners of red and white were raised up high, as were those of white, black and gold. At the head of the large force, on their horses sat; Sir Frederick of the Teutonic Knights and Sir Henri of the Templars.
After a while of discussions, it was decided that camp would be set just outside Jerusalem, whilst they waited for the newest orders.

OOC: Pav, can Sir Frederick look like this?

Assabia, Royal Palace, Ethiopian Empire

Emperor Assab and his general looked at a map and planned their next conquests. Below the Ethiopian Empire were a bunch of weak and foolish kingdoms that were all ruled by young idiots. Assab wanted to take them without bloodshed so he decided to set an example for them. He took a dagger from his belt and thrust it into the Kingdom of Alodia on his map. "We strike here, and then at Makuria and Blemmyes." His generals nodded in agreement and they set out to ready the army. Assab went out to his armies main camp. He and his officers began to assemble their mighty host. The Ethiopian Army numbered nearly 150,000 men! A massive force to be reckoned with. 80,000 were Veterans from the Yemen Campaigns and 20,000 were average men at arms that were once in the Yemeni Army and the other 50,000 men were militia and conscripts and men at arms. And overall the forces consisted of 100,000 infantry, 25,000 archers, and 25,000 cavalry. The force as truly a grand sight at that too. For the next few weeks supplies would be gathered and more weapons and armour would be made for the army. Food and other crucial survival supplies were also gathered as well. Once again the Ethiopian conquests would begin soon...............

Yargov watched as the city retreated over the horizon. The Muslims had squandered a valuable Strategic Asset in allowing the Kievans to escape. But that was there fault. And the Kievan troops had been compensated, some 500,000 Zhyoltis raided from the Treasury. Alas, the City had fallen. Yargov was tirn between bowing to the inevitable and sailing home, or attempting to uphold the Contract and raid and fight on. Alas, he needed time to debate.
I'm really tired
