Backstory: Mark grew up among thieves, his parents having abandoned him when he was very young. They taught him many skills, how to evade capture by police, how to use the shadows to your advantage when going out to steal, and many other things. He loved his life, thrills around every corner, its what he lived for. But one night, when he was out with some other thieves they were inside a jewelry store when all-of-a-sudden there were several police cars outside the store. Lights flashing, sirens wailing. He and the other thieves took off out the back door, but the police were close behind. The other thieves figured they could make an escape if they tripped Mark, so that's exactly what they did. The other two escaped. Mark looked back as the police came running up, fear pulsing through him, but then the police stopped dead in their tracks. They looked past him, as if seeing a ghost, yelled, and took off back to where they came. Mark turn quickly around and saw what they had seen, a wolf as large as an elephant was standing there, snarling. Its eyes glowing a demonic red. Mark stumbled backwards and fell on the ground, but the wolf faded away, as if it was dust blown away by the wind. He quickly stood up and ran back to the thieves hideout. Once there, he explained what happened to the leader of the group (which was like a father to him), the two thieves who had tripped him were kicked out of the hideout, and the leader told Mark about a place called Sylvan Academy, where he could learn to control his powers. He decided to go, in hopes of one day becoming wealthy using his power.
