Military Type: The Navy is very modern and well trained. The army is lagging behind technologically but Māori troops are considered some of the most fearsome in the world.

Fleet: Large for the size of the population and considered to be the pride of the nation by many.

Type of Economy: Agriculture is still very important although industry is beginning to develop. Mining recently took off in the Australian provinces.

Primary Exports: Agricultural products such as wool and wheat, fish, gold, coal

Primary Imports: Primarily luxury goods and some advanced technologies.

Land Routes: 5 - Although the roads are decent, especially in Australia and New Zealand, the large swathes of water between the various islands makes ship the primary mode of transport between different parts of the Union.

Sea Routes 9 - The ports in Australia and New Zealand are exceptional due to the seafaring nation of our people. The ports on the smaller islands are good but often small.

Brief Summary on Nation's History:

There was significant colonisation of to the land now known as The Oceanian Union. In the early 1800s many Europeans arrived throughout the first part of the century, bringing modern technology with them. This colonisation led to significant developments in the infrastructure of the land but this came at the expense of the native people. The natives suffered much with many dying from new diseases and being forced off the lands that they had lived on for generations. However, the area boomed and many migrants from europe came, believing it to be some sort of paradise. By the 1840s the area had become wealthy and was starting to industrialise. However, the native people did not share in this boom and they were often discriminated against and forced into poverty.

Change arrived in an unexpected way. Matthew Laurie, the son of one of New Zealand's major landowners began to speak out against the way the Māori on the island were treated. His views soon began to gain popularity both among the native Māori and some European settlers. However the government of the Island were vehemently against the things he preached, seeing them as a threat to their power over the islands. These tensions came to a boil in 1848 when government troops opened fire on a group of protesters advocating Laurie's cause, thinking this would halt the unrest. It did just the opposite and full civil war broke out between the supporters of Laurie and the government of the two islands. Laurie's supporters fought valiantly, the Māori gaining a reputation for being fearsome fighters, but the government had superior weaponry and began to push the revolutionaries back. The lifeline for the revolution eventually came from the Japanese who wished to expand their influence in the South Pacific installing a friendly government in the place of the old New Zealand regime that had been hostile to all non-european powers. The Japanese supplied weaponry and training to the rebels and they soon pushed the government forces back. The war culminated in March 1850 at the battle of Dunedin where the rebel forces took the last government stronghold and ended the war and on the 20th of April Matthew Laurie was crowned King Matthew I and a new government was formed. The country was renamed from New Zealand to the The Oceanian Union.

The new King quickly set about making implementing reforms to redefine the nation. He encouraged intermarriage between the European settlers and the natives to break down the ethnic divide and led by example, making a Māori woman his Queen. He also broke down the religious divide by secularising the nation and encouraging people to follow a new set of ideals based honour and duty to replace the religious ideals. These reforms led to a more united Kingdom that prospered greatly. It's navy flourished thanks to funding from the new government and shipbuilding experts brought in from Japan leading to it gaining a modern and very well trained navy in a relatively short space of time. The nation grew further in 1855 when a rebel group in southeastern Australia, inspired by the New Zealand revolution, declared it's loyalty to Matthew I. Troops were sent to Australia to support the rebels and the coalition soon took control of Southeastern Australia. It then sent missionaries out into Polynesia where they told of the glories of the Union. Many of the islands willingly joined the the Union, some even believing King Matthew to be a god. The few that didn't join were soon convinced otherwise by gifts of gold or, if diplomacy failed, force. Much effort was put into developing these islands to facilitate trade between the Union.

Tragedy recently struck the Union in 1869 with the death of Matthew I from a disease. His son young son George I was crowned soon after, with people from all over the Union coming to pay their respects to their great leader and to witness the coronation of his son. The Oceanian Union continues to prosper and it one of the rising stars of the world. It has very good relations with Japan due to their assistance in the revolution and help in building the Oceanian Navy. The Union will often echo the Japanese view in international affairs and respects the Japanese greatly.
