Spider-Man started out as a blunt analogy for puberty. Why else do you think he gained the ability to excrete a sticky, white substance?

Most weren't like that till after their accidents. Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus , and the Lizard just to name a few were rather nice people before they were villains.
