Rise of Nations: Rebirth [Nation RP|OOC/Semi-Open]

Postby The Empire of Pretantia » Tue Mar 26, 2013 4:28 pm

"You think you destroyed them, councilmen? Do not be so naive. Before you even reached Hellens you learned of their vast riches. Vikings and pirates raided your fleets, and although you swept them aside with ease their presence told you stories of Astarta's power. When your men landed on the beaches, they did not meet Moagogans or ronin; they met the Spartoi. When your bolts barely pierced the thinnest part on their armor they did not scream; they retaliated with longbows and make your archers squeal like pigs. When your men charged they did not hold together like brothers; they broke apart, running and screaming as their comrades infront were skewered by thirty-foot pikes. When, by some freak accident, you reached the city of Kyras and laid siege, the walls did not yield to your catapults; they stood strong, making your missiles become like pebbles unto a mountain.

"The Spartoi were not destroyed. They hid from the rebellions that fractured your empire. They laughed off the plague that swept Kakophonos off the face of the earth. They stood together when our clans quarreled for an imaginary power. They did not lose; they won, and ignored our existence. And when they return, no one shall be suffered."

-Ambassador Orichi to the Pragian council

One hundred years ago, a great war ravaged the world. The Empire of Astarta was beset again by the barbarians of Kakophonos, the seas ruled by the Kakophoni's ally Pragia. To Astarta's aid from the east came the Oni and Slavic Empires, ancient comrades to them. Together the five nations waged battle so gruesome that the proud warriors of Oni tired of endless combat; Kakophonos was racked by plagues of untold horror; Pragia's sheer technological edge with their steam weapons was lost to time; and the vast armies of Astarta, once the crown jewel of its people, were all but exhausted.

The world enterred a dark age, when the lands of Kakophonos and Astarta were swept by disease; when civil war tortured Oni and Slavia; when the worst of curses came down on Pragia. For years the peoples of the world fought man and beast and blight and hunger, no end to suffering in sight but with their deaths.

But that has passed; the plagues, the famine, the strife, all of it. The world returned to grace, and although the nations of old have fallen to the winds of time, new countries came forth to stake their claim upon the lands. Kingdoms shall rise. Empires shall fall. Monks shall love and soldiers shall war. The torch has been passed from the ancient empires to you, our humble children. Now go forth and multiply, or go forth and decimate; it matters not, as you are now the bearers of burden.

So, I'm starting another obviously; if I wasn't then this wouldn't be here, would it? Credit to Ammar(Bastard) for making the original RP which was... Inadequate in terms of detail. We'll be picking up where we left off; at the end of the dark ages. I'll just give you a small rundown of what you'll need to know.

-MAP-
https://www.dropbox.com/s/j0hrht6tqc272x2/The_Map.png
NOTE: map is still being fixed. Pragia Alleniana will add a few details and shrink his nation before it's ready.

Araby: Araby is the continent in the northwest corner, with the lake in the middle. The continent was formerly split between Oni and Astarta before the great war.
Hellens: Hellens is the continent just southeast of Araby, with the river stretching across the whole thing. Homeland of Astarta.
Kakophonos: Kakophonos is the continent to the southwest of Hellens. It is the homeland of its namesake, the Kakophoni.
Bolshevsky: Bolshevsky is the northeast continent, and is homeland to the Slavic Empire, a rather insignificant nation.
Pragia: Pragia is the Continent south of Bolshevsky, and homeland to its namesake, Pragia.

EMPIRES OF OLD
In the old RP, there were several nations that reached mentionable status.
Astarta: a warlike people known for battle prowess. While their earlier history wasn't worth mention, their more recent stories are. After losing large tracts of land to Kakophonos, Astarta completely reworked its everything. The old council was executed along with priests, and the old religion was replaced with worship of dragon gods.

A notable aspect of Astartan culture was the Spartoi; soldier-citizens immune to pain and disease. All Spartoi joined the military at birth; everyone else was either second-class, enslaved, or a mercenary. The Spartoi became the finest warriors of the world by age 16; however, almost all of them were killed during the great war. With the lack of soldiers to control the populace, slave rebellions went rampant and Astarta was no more.
Image

Kakophonos: a barbaric people known for brutality. The Kakophoni were a backwards people; their language involved literally screaming, the most popular sports were headball and slave hunt, and they considered gratuitous violence as an acceptable answer to everything. They were well-known for using three things in battle; fire, drugs, and diseased corpses. Eventually that last one became their undoing, as much of the Kakophoni fell to disease. Those territories not struck by the plague were in rebellion due to Kakophoni who were less inclined to violence.
Image

Oni: people from Nippon, an island south of Bolshevsky. The Oni was, and still is, a militaristic empire, having a loose class system that was simple enough for someone to climb. Their armies were feared for their archers' accuracy, their siege retainers' destructive might, and their navy's near-suicidal confidence. The Oni sent an expedition to Hellens to aid their Astartan allies; however, plague struck their armies, and the Oni isolated themselves on Nippon, cutting off all ties with colonies in Araby and Hanguk. During the dark ages the Oni clans fought for the title of shogun, only for the Emperor to return to power and end the civil war; thus ending the dark ages.
Image

Pragia: an advanced nation with steam power. Pragia has had a fairly peaceful existence until meeting Oni a few centuries ago. The two fought in Nippon, ending with the capture of several thousand Pragian soldiers and the compensation to Oni. Pragia had also joined inthe Great War on Kakophonos' side, providing much of the naval power. However, their participation in the war came to an end when civil war and plague threatened their entire empire. After a hundred years of strife the Pragians had lost their technological edge to time; although they still possess the most basic knowledge of steam power.

EXTRA INFO
Witches: in Hellens there are individuals who are immune to pain and disease and allegedly worship devils. Such individuals share characteristics with the Spartoi of Astarta.
Mercenaries: because the Spartoi of Astarta served as heavy infantry, they had mercenaries serve out other roles. Noteworthy mercenary groups include the Moagogan dreadnought riders, the Gizartean vikings, the Romani riders, and the Burakumin ronin. Nations pressed for troops could try to recruit them in a pinch.
Animals: most animals are like they are IRL. However, a few notes: dreadnought is another name for elephant, a tengu is a large marine eagle, and there are sabertooth tigers in Pragia. You may also pull your own out of your ass if they obey physics to an extent.
The Grey Fortresses: Hellens is dotted by fortresses of concrete built by Astarta years ago. Noteworthy locations include the two at the mouth of the Hellenic river and the so-called "Dragon's Maw" on the northeast coast.
The Grey City: in northern Hellens, on the fork of the river, there is a vast abandoned city of wood and concrete. Originally it was to be the new capital of Astarta, but the great war led to the empire's destruction, leaving the city to be empty and abandoned. Strangely, anyone who enters the city is never heard from again, leading people to believe the place to be cursed.
Orichi Clan: I won't kick you if you godmod or number-spam. Instead I'll sick an entire shadow nation on you. The Orichi will kill your entire army if you so much as jesusmod.

ORGANIZATIONS
Orichi Clan: The Orichi was a secretive clan of Oni that ensured the emperor's authority until their betrayal at the hands of the Arikawa. After the betrayal they disappeared, becoming legend until they assassinated the entire Arikawa family. Their base's whereabouts are unknown, but it's said that they have eyes in every kingdom.
Legions of the Damned: during the Great War Astarta paid mercenaries in gold found in the Arab ranges to fill roles the Spartoi heavy infantry did not. While Astarta has long passed, the "legions of the damned" live on in mercenary communities in Hellens. They've been rumored to travel freely through the Grey City, and so are thought to be witches as well.
Dreadnaughts of the North: skilled dreadnought(elephant) riders, and of the legions.
Image

Burakumin: ronin trapped in Hellens, also of the legions.
Image

Riders of Honchar: some Kakophonos were more loyal to gold than to their home, and so entered the service of Astarta as cavalry.
Image

Vikings of Gizartea: while the Astartans maintained a navy, its oars was manned by unskilled slaves incapable of self-defense; so the Astartans bolstered their maritime power with these mercenaries.

FOREWORD
We'll be starting in the year 600, A.T.L.R.P.S.(After The Last RP Started). Time will pass freely as needed, although I'll occasionally give a timeskip when things slow down.

Regarding mutations, you may have them. Just nothing gamebreaking like the S- no, it's a secret. Hush hush. So if you want, you can have elves, but only with the ears. You may have spartoi if so desired, but in small numbers, and they must be persecuted for the sake of balance(Force service counts).

You MAY have gunpowder weapons at my discretion. Ask nicely and you shall receive. You may have steam at the Co-OP's discretion, and he may discrete at my discretion. Galleons, catapults, trebuchets, crossbows, folding bows, longbows, halberds, river mills, windmills, and incendiary weapons are free game. Gorillas may be trained to be perfect warriors IF it takes five hundred years. Incendiary weapons are available to all nations at the start.

Regarding the history of your nation in the app, there are literally dozens of canonical ways to start. Splitting from the violent Kakophoni, rebelling against the cruel Astartans, descending from mercenaries in Astarta, being a former colony of the disinterested Oni, or fighting the aristocratic Pragians for freedom and liberty and whatnot.

Regarding population, we just had serious plagues. No more than 25,000,000 per nation please.

Your name: The Empire of Pretantia
Nation name: Oni
demonym: Oni

location: The red. Already on there.
Population: 9,000,000
History: The dark ages brought about redical changes to Oni culture. During the great war the lord of Goza was chosen to command the Oni forces as shogun, or supreme commander. However, he met an untimely demise in Hellens, followed by Oni's self-imposed isolation. Although shogun was the title of supreme commander, several lords tried to claim the title as their own, citing its assignment by the emperor himself to be proof that it is the highest position in Oni. The Oni clans fought one another for decades, never coming to peace or armistice.

At one point, the lord of Arikawa had finally united the Oni and became shogun. However, despite all his power he still had old ghosts left by his forefathers. Before the civil war the Oni clans had to rid of one group in particular: the Orichi, a clan entirely of ninja. Only the lord of Arikawa knew of Castle Orichi's location, and so the shogun's grandfather led the Oni forces to the ninja stronghold. However, the place was abandoned, leaving the world to wonder what became of the Orichi clan until 550, when the entire Arikawa family was assassinated upon its lord becoming shogun.

The Oni fought once again, this time no shogun being named. Instead the emperor himself came forth in 600 and reclaimed his authority over the clans. Once again Oni was at peace, and the ports of Nippon were once again open. However, during the civil war the territories of Oni in Hanguk and Araby had seceded, leaving only Nippon uncer the Emperor's rule.
Specialty: military prowess.
Culture: Oni is a semi-militarized state, with the middle and upper class often serving in the military. In addition, there are several guilds that formed during the dark ages that train members in particular aspects of war(more later). Sailing and horseriding are major parts of the culture, both being the primary modes of transportation.

Regarding diplomatic relations, the Oni are friendly with any new face that isn't smeered in blood, unless that's because they were finished a gruesome battle. The only two two cultures Oni actively despised were the Kakophoni(now exctinct) for their violence and brutality and the Pragians, who the Oni had clashed with on multiple occasions.
Military: 800 Bune, 2400 kabuya
45,000 samurai
10,000 siege retainers
8,000 strike retainers
50,000 bow retainers
20,000 Onna Bushi
30,000 City Retainers

The Oni military has changed greatly over the centuries. Originally it was an aggressive mistress comprised entirely of samurai, always charging into the battle. That changed with the Pragian wars, when heavy infantry devastated the Oni in close combat. Since then the Oni military host has evolved to be a a cool-headed and multi-faceted army with cavalry, siege weapons, and specialists of all kinds.

While samurai are at the core of the army, there are several lord-funded guilds which train normal citizens in various aspects of war. The siege guilds train siege retainers, the sailing guilds naval retainers, Guerrilla guilds strike retainers, and the horse guilds cavalry retainers. The samurai have also changed over the years, now becoming a versatile force specializing in guerrilla warfare as well as pitched battles. There are some guilds that exclusively train women called Onna Bushi, although most retainer guilds accept both men and women.

The navy primarily specializes in boarding, using trained marines to destroy the enemy crews in close combat; although the navy has also branched out into ranged combat, making heavy use of fire weapons to destroy the enemy from afar. The navy has an excellent record, having defeated the technologically superior Pragian Navy at the end of the Pragian Wars using boarding tactics.

More recently the Oni has invented gunpowder weapons. Although in small numbers currently, there is potential in them.

Alleniana
Nation name: Alleniana
Demonym: Allenians
Flag: Image
Location: The island chain north of Araby
Population: 7 million
History: The islands had always been a bit of a backwater, being so northerly. However, this meant that it was a place for outcasts; exiles, people with unacceptable ideas. After the breakdown of order just about everywhere, they founded a city on the south coast. It grew, being more stable and less susceptible to war and plague being on an island and grew to a good size. Being an island nation and the land being so ravaged with plague and war, the navy gradually grew into a reasonable size. Its people are mostly people of Araby mixed with many other cultures and the culture of the island natives itself.
Specialty: A society based on innovation, freedom and acceptance. Good at navy and commerce. Citizens are patriotic (reasonably). Is very good to find a lawyer ;)
Culture: There is no primarily accepted culture. Varying forms of religion are vying for dominance but none have and the general population is not very religious, although devout nuts and atheists exist as well. There is nothing "widely accepted". For example, some people wake at 5, while others wake at 11. Some eat their breakfast as they sit in bed right after they wake up while others work and exercise for several hours before partaking of a meal. Breakfast itself can range from skewered mice bought on the street, a warm fruity paste made at home or a simple slice of bread with butter. The diversity and multiculturalism is unbelievable. The one thing linking them all together is their tolerance of each other, their love of freedom and their patriotism on living in a country where such is possible. Joining a debate club is becoming a fad.
Military: There is a sort of "police" force, a force of over a thousand people who maintain order and peace in the streets. This is the basic land defense in the event of a war on land. However, due to the nature of the people, many have been trained in weapons and over 250,000 have registered themselves as capable of wielding a weapon. There would be no shortage of patriots willing to march for their country. However, they would be much more likely to be compassionate and enduring as an army than brutal and disciplined. Cavalry is weak.

The navy is quite large with over 2000 warships of varying sizes owned by the government. These are not the grand galleons of the empire however; they are capable of holding around 50 men. However, they are manned ably by seamen and well designed for the rough seas and survival of the fittest sort of world.

Pragia
Nation name: Pragian Alliance
demonym: Pragian
Flag: current flag
location: blue zone, will shrink
Population: 16 million
History: Pragian history has only been kept alive by orders of people who have set up sanctuaries. The great cities were reduced to ghost towns by plague upon plague. Recently, the shining cities have returned, people clawing back the pieces in order to return the nation to greatness. The dark ages have fractured the nation. Council head Thomas Steele has been granted emergency powers to try and reunite the entire continent back to Pragian control.
Specialty: High technology
Culture: The alliance was founded on the idea that scientific advancement and advancement of the nation. The people are very hard working, intelligent, and community minded. Due to the recent shrinking of borders during the dark ages, the metropolitan culture has seeped into the country, with new technology and innovation occurring almost daily. There is a large rift between the Cities and the Country, physically marked by the Great Wall created in Pragia's antiquity. A corporate culture has recently surfaced with Guilds rising to power and even receiving political power. The alliance government is a council with 5 seats, each representing different groups in Pragian society: Merchants, Artisans, Soldiers, Farmers, and Thinkers.
Military: Military: The Argentum99 Steam Galleons, 2,000 smaller vessels, 25,000 order soldiers (full tech level, elite), 125,000 professional soldiers (swords n crossbows), 500,000 availiable for draft (not in military

Focusing on static battle lines and organized symmetrical warfare, the Pragian military puts great emphasis on advanced technology to win them the day. Though there are designated groups that use different and odd weapons, there is an order of equipment. Steamthrowers and Steam Cannons of old were kept in good conditions by sanctuaries, while crossbows and bladed weapons form front battle lines. A typical formation will usually have three rows of shield-wielding warriors armed with axes, swords, and Pragia's infamous halbeards. Following them will be two rows of crossbowmen whose bolt have been proven to penetrate all manner of armor, from chain mail to ceramic armor. Steam based weapons are laced in when major battles are apparent.

Steam is the future of the Pragian military, with Steamthrowers burning men from the inside and outside, while cannons can break men as well and buildings.

Nation name: Allied States of Shacklefold
demonym: Sachlefolian
Flag: http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/ ... 2y1f4m.jpg
location: East of Pragia(I want to be by water)
Population: 10 million
History: The Allied States of Shacklefold was formed out of the outcast engineers that wanted a new set of traditions set in Pragia, the Shacklefold rebelion, as it was called, was the civil war that sparked when they sided with the now extinct Kakophonos. The soliders of Shacklefold fought hard, as they were able to use unconventional warfare against the forces of Pragia. One of the tactics was to use arrows and catapults that had the plague and hurl it at the steam power ships and forifications. This method surly backfired as the plague spread and decimated both forces until there nations where no more. Ten years after the Great War and into the dark ages, the people of Shacklefold have grown immune to the disease and had heightened sense of sight that allowed them to reclaim there cities. During the rest of the dark ages, the Allied States have been able to hold to their constitution and have been able to harness basic steam power tech but the nations still runs off of cognative tech (clockwork and pulley system), but as the Pragia goverment wants to retake their continent back, it looks like there will be another war against the two rivals.
Specialty: unconventional warfare
Culture: The ASoS(Allied States of Shacklefold) is a constitution republic that ranges to have a bicameal party system. The leader is known as the president who has a very limited power as the senate and the judical court. Like most republics in real life, The President is the commander-in-cheif of the armed forces and gets to pass law and bills , the senates make laws and bills, and the judical reinforces the laws and bills that are inacted. The president right now is former engineer Myles Bennet Dyson, who wishes to improve on the steam power tech and unite the continent Shacklefold.
Military: 300 galleons, 1,200 smaller ships, 12,000 Sabertooth calvary, 80,000 regular soliders, 9,000 siege corps (elite), 230,000 in reseve
Shacklefold's military is famous for its unconventional warfare, surpirse attacks, booby trabs, ambushes. Shacklefold has done it all, because of their small but effective military, they are able to take on bigger armies with little struggle. Many improvements have been made to the standard crossbow and baslitas, making them semi-automatic and have a more powerful draw to them thanks to the gear system that was recently developed.
The Seige corps are a special type of task force that are engineers hand picked to be soliders that specialied in anti-infatry and also to use the Ounkok, a portable weapon that utliizes Greek fire that is able to attack mulitiple enemies at close to mid-range, they also are able to use the portable scropions.
The Sabertooth calvary is the scouts, skirmishers, and effective mounted sharpshooters of the military, the Sabertooth tigers and the Gorillas have been the results of five hundred and fifty years of extreme, breeding, and training to become the most perfect riding animal in the military to date, they are fast enough to be scouts, quite enough to be ambushers, and there owners are just as deadly with the crossbow and bow becuase of the mutation they can shoot further than the normal human and even their own Shacklefolian breathern because of the training and there light diet makes them suitible riders.
The navy is consist of old fashion wooden ships that use greek fire and catapults that use dead bodies with the plague, or just plain boulders, the galleons are actually experimental as they are using the Aeolipiles as a mode of roatry for the gears in order to have non-maned oar paddling. The weapons of this ship effective greek fire and catapults, though the galleons either have two mini catapults, two bastilas, or one greek fire user.

Legital
Nation name: The Empire of Higara
demonym: Higaran
Flag: Image
location: The upper half of Araby
Population: Eleven and a half million
History: The Higaran Empire was formed after the great war ravaged the lands of the world, and when the ages of darkness fell, this empire was formed by people who flocked here. Slaves, peasants, and warriors alike forged a nation in these cold and mountainous lands. Their lands were originally miniscule, consisting of isolated castles and farm land connected to their Emperor within his own castle. As time moved own, the small armies of these castles pushed forwards, rallied under their Emperor, claiming new lands. These castles became more powerful, and the cities around them expanded. These castles would soon become the capitals of the several established provinces: Reichland, Kalter March, Graff, Valichia, and Drakken. These once lonely castles now flourished as provinces, all tied to their Emperor, whose direct lands are those of the Reichland.

As times draw towards our present, the plague did a number on these lands, causing many smaller outlying towns and villages, and isolated ones within the lands of Higara to disappear from lack of anyone living there. A system of rudimentary quarantine and medicine allowed the Higarans to slow the spread of the plague, preserving more lives than they would have previously. This plague, however, has struck true to the Higaran superstitions, and outsiders are even more unwelcome, as fear of possible witches are all too real.
Specialty: A well disciplined military, however the thing that puts Higara on the list is their knowledge of engineering. Metal working, castles, and field fortifications (including siege equipment). You could consider them industrious for this time.
Culture: First off, the Higaran people are pale skinned and gaunt. Anyways:

Higara has taken many prospects of the old empires, and melded them into their own ideal version. Therefore, Higaran culture is somewhat rigid, with a minor but noticeable class structure, and emphasis on tradition and discipline. This is, not to say, the people are oppressed and have no freedom. It is simply to say people have a traditionalist and respectful view on their society and elders.
This class structure centers around workers, merchants, military vassals, and nobility. Listed in that order, one could consider that to be the societal ranking, however, it is not that a general worker is spat upon by a noble, it is simply to say they are not as prestigious as the next level.

Superstitions range far and wide, however in regards to religion, the Emperor is seen as a deity among mortal men.
Military: The Higaran military is focused upon infantry and their navy. Infantry men are all provided with a standardized field kit provided by the lead merchant guild to the Emperors military advisers, and therefore their is little wide scale weapon variation. Infantrymen are either equipped with a halberd (the main weapon of the military) or swords, which Higaran swords are straight, but with a good balance for power and fluidity. Archers are equipped with longbows, which mass volleys are favorable, and a standardization in manufacturing has allowed simple gunpowder weapons to be outputted more into the military.
Naval vessels are hardy and small, focusing on long time deployment than heavy ships to duke out damage in close combat. However, there are some ships built for that.

Soldiers of the Empire with their respective weapons and armor

Registered military personal: Estimated 300,000 professional standing. Not including militia forces than can be quickly trained and lightly equipped. This consists mainly of lightly armored infantrymen (includes engineers and siege) and archers. Calvary is relatively weak, used in sparse numbers to either turn the tide of battle or hit weak areas of the enemy.
General military doctrine is on formations of infantry that engage in open combat. To provide fluidity from rigid regiment formations, there are companies, and then platoons, allowing small units to break off and be sent where needed in battle or in general.
Navy: 2,500 warships, all relatively medium and light.

Nation name: Karinulg (translation: domain of the Kars)
demonym: Bulgar
Flag: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/ca/Monogram_of_Asparuh.svg
location: the landmass below Pragia
Population: 4,278,400
History: The Bulgars have existed quietly for centuries, slowly building a feudal culture from the Vikings and Pragians, who often came and conquered before leaving when they realized there was nothing of interest there. During the dark ages, they were virtually unaffected for their relative isolation, though the pattern of conquering and leaving continued. About 300 years ago, one Bulgar chieftain rose above them all, Kar. It is thought that his name, which is possibly mythical, came from the Kakophoni word khan. He united all the Bulgars under one banner through both war and peace and for once the power stayed, mainly because the Bulgars were fed up with being conquered by outsiders. After Kar united the land, he had a great clanmoot, where all the chieftains were summoned. Usually clanmoots only happened once a century, but Kar decided that it was important enough to declare his kingship. At that coanmoot, which was later known as the Kukmoot or Greatmoot, Kar laid down the laws of his new realm. Each chieftain would be required to hold peace with their neighbors and settle disputes by conferring with Kar. They would also need to fight for Kar when he called upon them in a time of war. They would also, of course, be required to accept Kar's clan as the "royal" dynasty. The clans all agreed, either out of fear or genuine want for a united realm.

From the Kukmoot on, the land changed. The people no longer needed to focus so much on warfare and could more on farming and societal advancement. Over time population rose as medical practices improved, mainly from the land to the north. Kar became the name for their ruler, and the country itself was named after him. Some population centers popped up, mainly the town of Dalpurtun. Mining became the main industry when massive sources of copper, iron, coal, and gold were found. Trade flourished and Karinulg got on the map.
Specialty: large metal and coal reserves
Culture: Karinulg has a strange culture that is radically different in different areas. In the more "out of the way" areas, the old religion is still common. The old religion is based around tattoos and self-mutilation as forms of devotion to the goddess Narrok. As one proceeds to the more populous areas, like Dalpurtun(pop. 1.2 mil) or Goriakkuh(pop 0.7 mil), things become more cultured and less tribal. There Narrok is treated as something far-off and unimportant except for the occasional celebration. The Kar rules from the castle in Dalpurtun, which also serves as the primary military establishment of the nation. The Kar has the right to manage the nation's finances and declare war, although he cannot do anything drastic without the approval of the 5 greatest houses and relies on them heavily for guidance.
Buildings in Karinulg are mostly made of wood, stone blocks, bricks, or a combination of all three. Bulgar forts are exceptionally well-crafted. The usually cold temperatures in Karinulg mean that furnaces or fireplaces are the center of any building. The lower class mostly live in large communal houses, while the more wealthy live in medium-sized houses and cottages. The people of Karinulg have an understanding of medicine and a crude grasp of steam power in the more populous areas. Dalpurtun University is considered the jewel of the land, where professors delve into the mysteries of steam power and mechanics. Think Siberia, 1700, but without several key pieces of technology.
Military: The army of Karinulg is based on the levee system and can vary greatly in ability and technology. None of the army has gunpowder weapons and most of them are either archers or cavalrymen or both. ~25,000(1,200 of which are full-time). The Kar's Navy, on the other hand, is excellent. The ships are high-quality caravels and some galleons, which use ballistae and large rams, and are nearly always ready in case of an attack. Most of the Kar's Navy is docked in either Dalpurten or Goriakkuh. The Kar's Navy is also supplanted with smaller navies run by the houses, which usually use galleys or worse boats. ~450 ships(103 of which are Kar's Navy)

Photana
Nation name: Romani Pirate Clans
Demonym: They call themselves Romani, but the rest of the world knows them as Pirates.
Flag: (Image)
location: The island to the west of Pragia. (45 South)
Population: 1,000,000
History: The Romani that comprise the despised Pirate clans are mostly seen as a menace to sea trade and travel, but they have a long history. The first thing that should be understood about the Romani is that they have a long relationship with the sea. Their civilization started on an archipelago, and much of their early years were spent on securing and maintaining sea routes. During the Great War, the Romani stayed out of the fighting, occasionally raiding supply ships that drifted too close to their shores. The War also saw the breakdown of the government ruling over the Romani the Magna Sapientia, due to it's decadence, perversions, and lack of touch with will of the people. The Fall of the MS signaled a new age in the History of the Romani, for after the Fall, the first roving bands of Pirates began to maraud shipping full time in the seas near them. This new behavior was the result of the return to the rule of local city councils and strong men. Piracy was a way for the Romani to get riches, slaves, and goods, all of which were in short supply in the homeland, and it was a way for adventurers, bastard children, and ne'er do-wells to gain respect and prestige, and possibly found new villages. But this was only the first wave of Piracy. After the war ended, and the reports of Plague started popping up in other lands, the Romani began to fight each other for control of the still existing trade lanes, fishing waters, farmlands, and forests. This state continues today, albeit in much less abundance, partially due to the restoration of trade, and partially because Three main Clans now control the people- The Pirati, who control the Northern coasts, the Pirani, who control the Southern Coasts, and the Brutani, who control the inland regions.
Specialty:steam weapons, Also good at building and maintaining ships.
Culture: The Romani culture has been refined over the years of Isolation and Piracy. The base of the culture is the religion of Zorostar, a famous politician of the Romani Republic, which is to enjoy life to the fullest, work, not because you have to, but because you want to, and set aside one day for sacrifices to the Gods. This base has lead to most of the cities of the Romani to be made of Gambling Dens, Taverns, and Brothels. These places are considered the height of culture, and many a man has wanted to go to sea to pay debts. Out in the country, Potatoes, Grain, and Rice are all grown in terraces, used due to the large mountains in the Isles.
Military: Informal at best. Around 2,500 Romani are active Pirates at any one time, and almost all able-bodied men are trained in fighting with blades. There are around 250 ships active at any time, though these are mostly sloops, used for merchant/coastal village raiding.
The Romani focus on quick hit & run tactics, and if faced with a much larger ship, will prefer to signal for nearby pirates to come and assist them, while they are sailing away from, and taking shots at, the ship behind them. They favor a curved blade in battle. They also do not usually head too far inland, for risk of being overwhelmed by enemies, but sometimes, a Pirate Clan will lead a raid down a major river, possible because of the Sloop's shallow draft.

Nation name: Rho Republic
demonym: Rhomas (I live in Rhomas)/ Rho (He's a Rho, Rho ships incoming!)
Flag: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Zlz4enJSzDk/S ... abarum.svg
location: Most southeast, bordering the blue faction.
Population: 700,000
History: Refugees from a continent far to the east, early Rho settlers found their new homeland some centuries after the Civil War. Finding only scattered ruins and petty barbarian tribes, they founded a republic, free of the dictatorship back east. Now, they expand. Pushing Rho dominance to the fringes, forcing all those within Rho borders to assimilate... or die.
Specialty: Superb discipline and organizational skills. Excellent army organization and paved roads.
Culture: In Rhomas, order is everything. Back east, civil war and revolt were as common as the rising sun. It is also strongly marshal and dogmatic in nature. The Rho truly believe that it is their mission to "civilize" other tribes and nations. As individuals, the Rho are quite diverse. Some men are soldiers, other bureaucrats, some are artisans. other politicians. Women generally have a background role in Rho society. Purple is considered an esteemed color, worn only by the Senate and Consul, as the working class/soldiers generally wear blue, while the officials and artists wear red, thereby combining all of the Rho people. The Rho worship a pantheon of 13 gods and goddesses, 12 of them representing factors of Rho daily life and the 13th being a genderless supreme god who controls all of existence. Rho buildings are architecturally superb and sound, and its works, (particularly its temples) are some of the finest in the land.
Military: The Rho is very proud of its military. It is entirely voluntary, but considered an able male citizen's duty to serve. They are responsible for building the roads and the walls, maintaining the aqueducts and fending off barbarian raids. A full division of the Rho army is called a "legion". Comprised of 10,000 soldiers, there are currently ten of them active. Young recruits make up the front lines, while older veterans come behind. They are extremely organized and efficient. All wear a heavy steel armor, and though horses do exists in Rhomas, they are rarely used for military purposes. The Rho also use various siege weapons/catapults made of wood and steel. Bone Fort
Your name: Bone Fort

Nation name: Union of the Mad and the Wicked

demonym: Unionist

Flag: This.

location: Island to the west of Nippon, rather creatively called as "The Isle" by its natives.

Population: Roughly 4 million

History: The origin of the Union is unknown for the most part, having lived on their isle for as long as their culture can remember, with much of their early history shrouded in legend, many of them to improbable and over the top to be true (Ex: "Why There's Only One Moon", which involves the Unionists' ancestors blowing up a supposed second "malevolent" moon with a massive cannon). The ancient, pre-Union isle was known to be in a constant state of war, with the various city-states and counties all vying for power, largely unaware of the rest of the world off their shores. That all changed when the Oni arrived.

The Oni sent some samurai and ninjas to the island, and they reaped a bloody toll upon the pre-Union Unionists, with the majority of battles ending in the Oni's favor. Eventually, the Oni instituted a policy of isolationism, and what forces they had sent withdrew from the Isle, having eventually come to the conclusion that the Isle was useless and populated by insane cannibals (long story). This had a massive affect on the people of the Isle, who now united into the Union of the Mad and the Wicked (name adopted for fear-inspiring reasons).

Specialty: gunpowder, "terror warfare"

Culture: The Unionists are a rather eccentric and odd people, to put it lightly. Possessing somewhat frightening features and strange culture, many outsiders are of the impression that they're some sort of devils, a reputation the Unionists try extremely hard to support. Convinced that the universe and all who inhabit it are out to get them, the people of the Union believe that the best way to counter this is to be so terrifying that no one in their right mind would attempt to take on the Union. This is unsurprisingly hard to accomplish when you're terrified of the rest of the world.

Religion wise, their is no large scale organized religion, but generally all individually held beliefs are roughly similar, typically involving the moon wanting to kill them, "the screaming, howling face of the sun and its gaping maw yawning wide to devour us all", and some sort of dark being(s) waiting on the other end of some sort of barrier surrounding the world. Logically, the best course of action in their mind is to build another giant cannon and blow up the moon, or locate the original moon killing cannon. "Operation: F**k The World", as it has been called, has been put on hold until the situation with the rest of the world is resolved (and due to sanity reasons), however. Because of this fear of the sun (but paradoxically in disagreement with their fear of the moon), the Unionists are people of the night, being active at night and sleeping during the day, and thus have superior night vision. They tend to possess grayish white skin, a mouth full of canines, and strange eyes with yellow sclera, with typical hair colors being white, grey, and black. Everything seems to be black and grey, with the occasional splash of white, including the people, their clothes, the buildings, and the land itself.

As for the Union itself, it is a collection of city states, counties, and tribes, united in their overwhelming fear of the rest of the world. Typically lead by a council of leaders and representatives from the various cities and counties, in times of crisis a supreme leader of sorts is granted power. This leader is known only as "Evil" and his/her true identity remains largely unknown, their face hidden behind a mask. Equality is the norm, as suffering together tends to break down all barriers between people, regardless of gender or place of birth.

Military: Like the nation itself, the Union military is... odd. Lacking a true formal military, the Union relies on the various militias and cults that spring up from time to time. Given the survivalist bent of the Union's culture, the overwhelming majority of the population is armed and in time of great crisis can be rallied up to war... but due to the deep seated fear of the outside world, will only be in the defense of the home island.

For striking places outside their shores, the Union typically relies on mobile, well-armed forces moving around mostly unseen under the cover of the night terrorizing enemy populations with raids and other forms of psychological warfare. Unionists, being strangely obsessed with music as much as they are with knowledge, are attempting to "weaponize" music, for lack of a better term. To overcome their own fears, as well as terrify the enemy, they use music, as well as other forms of psychological warfare.

Their ships, as well as equipment, varies from cult to cult and militia to militia, but typically they are armed with various gunpowder and incendiary weapons, like rockets, cannons, muskets, and greek fire. All soldiers of the Union fight unarmored, preferring mobility and striking from a range via musket or grenade instead, and fight up close with cutlass, hatchet, claymore or club. Conversely, a good number of Union ships tend to be moderately armored with thin plates of iron, which provide somewhat good protection against fire based attacks, though the armor is usually thin enough that more powerful attacks such as cannons would knock through with little trouble. There are rare exceptions to this, with a few ships being armored and armed well enough to be considered a full on floating fortress, but given their bulk and ponderous speed are rarely ever used except in the most dire of circumstances or other large, epic scale event of note. Given their obsession with knowledge and technology, the Union possesses possibly the largest stockpile of gunpowder and incendiary weaponry in proportion to their population.

Landenburg
Nation name: Kingdom of Jin
demonym: Jinnese
Flag: (Image)
location: Hellens (if it's completely taken, Bolshevksy)
Population: 12,000,000
History: The people of Jin can claim relations to the people of Oni. They are the/a side that failed in the Oni Civil War, fighting for the Shogunate Seat. When Jin was defeated, she narrowly escaped to Hellens. Once there, they brooded, waiting for a chance to strike back at their enemies. Before they could strike back though, the diseases that destroyed Astarta, or the remnants of Astarta, also hit Jin hard. Very hard. Jin was crippled, making revenge impossible. The only thing that could save them was a mixture of the people of Jin and the people known as witches. Cultures collided and the people of Jin, kept their namesake. With a bolstered population, revenge seemed likely. Until the Jinnese Civil War. The people, known as Jiaski to the people of Jin – the witches, were tired of not receiving the recognition they deserved, they saved a Kingdom! After years of bloody fighting, Jin finally defeated them, putting them in their place. Now, years later Jin is a powerful Kingdom, built upon the trials of its people.

Sima Yi, leader of the Jin Clan, was a loyal Oni soldier. Then the Oni Civil War happened. Sima attempted to usurp the throne, with brilliant strategies. However, he had overlooked the strength of the throne. He underestimated them and he would pay for it. After years of fighting the throne and other revolutionaries, Sima Yi was exhausted. He had contracted a deadly disease, a rare one at that. No doctor that was on his side could cure it. They tried bleeding him, to get the impure blood out. They tried leeching. They tried herbal medicines, nothing would work. Yi finally realized that death was inevitable and accepted his fate. His son, Sima Shi, another brilliant strategist, would take over.

Sima Shi, now leader of the Jin, was a brilliant strategist, even at times better than his father. At the outbreak of the Oni Civil War, Shi was at the frontlines, fighting for his father. When his father died though, Shi realized that they could not win. Victory was impossible. He took his most loyal people and escaped to Hellens. It was a deadly land, a land where the Oni would not follow. In this land, the Jin thrived. Their ingenuity allowed them to survive what others could not survive. However, again disease struck a terrible blow. This time to the people along with Shi. So close in their grasp was revenge, yet it slipped away, like sand in a fist. On his dying breath, Shi asked that his brother, Zhao, take the reins and ensure that the Jin do not die out. They could not die out without getting their revenge.

Sima Zhao, leader of the Jin Kingdom, was a great leader. He led his people through their trials and let them out on top. He was the one closest to the people, listening to their pleas. He knew he had to do something to save his people, or his Kingdom would collapse, just like that of the Astarta. He looked to the witches of Hellens, people who could easily survive the diseases. The people of Jin began merging with them, creating a powerful kingdom, not susceptible to disease. Until, the Jinnese Civil War. The Jinnese Civil War was a bloody affair, filled with death and terror. The people were split between the Jin and the Krukos, a prominent Witch clan. Thousands died, killing each other or being killed. However, despite such a despicable affair, the Jin can proudly say that they were victorious, even if it meant the deaths of all Jin Witches. Sima Zhao has recently died of old age, leaving a black shroud over the people of Jin.

Sima Hui, the most recent leader of Jin. He is yet to be tried as a leader, as he is a new monarch. The people are still mourning the loss of Zhao, and if Hui is anything like his father and uncle, then there is a world to be conquered.
Specialty: Improved Farming and Accurate Archers
Culture: Our people are somewhat like our Oni ancestors, however, the land of Hellens has changed us. We worship our dragon gods and we believe that dying in battle is the most glorious way to die. Our people like to tame the tengu and use them to hunt terru (a large moose, sharper horns). Hunting terru is a national sport, with men often bragging about how many terru they killed. Warrior-like culture.
Military: Our military numbers around 180,000 soldiers. Most of them are regulars (140,000), however, there are peasant regiments (40,000). They are mainly used for taking fire, rather than the regular units.

Arbarlorn
demonym: Archaeans
Flag: This is their symbol.
location: Here
Population: Barely a thousand call Archaea home.
History: ”Our ancestors were proud and fierce, relentless and merciless. But they were arrogant and for their arrogance, they were abandoned and soon to be forgotten.”
Words of the Prophet

Once Archaea was one of the most important Grey Fortresses dotting Hellens, the garrison of Spartoi sent to guard the fortress were considered a boon to the small village that lived outside of Archaea. Constructed in the extinct volcano's caldera, Archaea expanded into the very rock itself of the mountain, bringing up precious ore and stones to be sold by the Empire. But, as the Great War began and the Spartoi at Archaea were abandoned or forgotten by the Empire, the trade shriveled up, the tunnels dotting below the city closed, and the Fortress left behind in time.

Once a garrison of nearly a thousand Spartoi called Archaea home but they soon dwindled to a single company of eighty who decided to remain and rule Archaea as the Empire in the lowlands fractured and died. These Spartoi would continue to dwindle as time passed until there was but memories of them, their sons and daughters attempting to shoulder the monumental weight of history that had been left by them.

It was at that time, two hundred years after the Great War ended everything, that a prophet arrived. His name was Azazel and he spoke of the Word, a greatness that had created everything and existed in everything. Galvanized by his words, the people of Archaea found their martial history and it was at that time they created the Knights of the Word, highly trained warriors raised from birth to believe in one thing and one thing only. That each drop of blood was dropped in the name of the Word.

While the rest of Hellens was gripped in anarchy and darkness, there was light to be found in Archaea. The mines were reopened and the Knights of the Word guarded the city from the darkness, their silver steel swords shining proudly in the light.

Unfortunately, the renaissance would only last barely a hundred years before the mines dried up and the revitalized trade died along with the mines. Since then, the Archaeans have slowly dwindled as time has gone by.

Recently, in a bid to increase the wealth to Archaea, it has been deemed by the Lord of Archaea that the Knights of the Word are to become mercenaries and sell their deadly swords to the highest bidder, for he is desperate to save Archaea from perishing to time.
Specialty: The Archaeans are a hardy mountain people and are typically experts finding their way through the dangers that mountains possess.
Culture: Discipline and honor go hand in hand in Archaea. From birth to death, they are taught that life is divided into Paths, and what Path a man takes determines their Afterlife. For instance, if a man lives a life of dishonor, he will be tossed into the Nothing (a form of Hell). If he lives a life of devotion and honor, he will be accepted into the Word, to become part of the Word that exists within all Life.

While Life is considered sacred by those in Archaea, they are also a pragmatic folk used to the dangers of living in a caldera. The Paths that a man might take are usually denotes three main Paths; the Path of the Artist, the Path of the Scholar, and the Path of the Warrior. Those who take the Path of the Artist are often those who wish a creative and more hands-on lifestyle. Typically this includes those who create. Those who take the Path of the Scholar are those who usually live a life of contemplation and philosophy. Mostly those with too much time on their hands or traders and merchants who must have a keen eye to gather what the Archaeans need to survive. All of Archaea's military follows the Path of the Warrior, and unlike the other Path, one cannot stray or leave the Path of the Warrior.

An Archaen can be instantly spotted by the light color of their skin and the intricate silver tribal tattoos that mark their entire bodies. These tattoos are only inscribed on an Archaean after an important Oath is completed. An Oath can be a simple one or a grand poetic one. Those who follow the Path of the Artist are marked by a silver disk below the right eye. Those who follow the Path of the Scholar are marked by an open eye above the right breast. And those who follow the Path of the Warrior, have a bright blood red drop added right below the left eye.

Within a family, typically what your father did is what you will do. This has interesting results within those who follow the Path of the Warrior. Every Knight of the Word can trace his family line back to the very beginning of Archaea in a long unbroken line of Warriors who have devoted their lives to the protection of Archaea.
Military: Only two hundred Knights of the Word remain. The rest have either disappeared or been killed without leaving an heir as time has passed by. From birth, each Knight is trained to wear armor and wield sword until time has passed and they are inducted into the ranks of the Knighthood at twenty. From ten to twenty, they are Acolytes, trained to beside Knights as their personal squire. Each Knight is directly descended from one of the Spartoi who remained behind in Archaea and for that reason, they are considered separate from the rest of Archaea. Their armor and weapons are ancient, passed down from time immemorial with the only changes being to maintain the equipment or fix it to allow it to fit more well on the wielder. Each Knight of the Word are masters of the sword and shield and will not blink when issued a command by the Paragon, leader of the Knights of the Word.

That's a no for several reasons:

1.) The witches are spartoi, who are immune to disease, fatigue, and pain. I.E. OP as hell.
2.) Everyone wants to kill witches because Spartoi were the ruling class before the dark ages.
3.) I have plans for the Spartoi.

1. can I make my own race?
2. How do the mutations go with the race?
3. Will this be using a real world map?
