Erinkita wrote:Name: Jillybean
Age (Actual): 14
Age (Appears): 14
Race: Clown
Appearance: [X]
Powergrid/Powers: Intelligence: 3
Strength: 1
Durability: 1
Speed: 5
Fighting Skills: 1
Charisma: 9
Magic: Business 5. With her performances, Jillybean can elicit specific mental and emotional responses from her audience. This can range from simply improving people's mood to bolstering willpower to recovering lost memories. She is talented, but still inexperienced and limited by having no other clowns at Elfen High to perform with. For more advanced business, Jillybean is normally limited to an audience of one unless working with other clowns. Business can also be used to hypnotise, stupefy, or otherwise harm a target's mind. A much more powerful clown than Jillybean can induce brain death.
Gags 5. Jillybean is familiar with the tools of clowning and has the skill to use most of them effectively. She is able to perform the pie gag which renders its target momentarily powerless. The higher an opinion the target has of themselves, the more effective this is. A truly humble person will be totally unaffected. She can cause any flower in the vicinity to squirt water. She can make balloon animals that act according to her will. She can throw buckets of confetti that behaves like any other substance she can convince the target it is. She can also juggle pretty much anything she can lift, but this isn't a supernatural ability.
Weaknesses: Apart from squirting flowers and balloon animals, Jillybean's powers depend on the target paying attention to her and having at least a semi-sentient mind. Also, look at those physical stats. She dies pretty easily.
Personality: Fitting her race and upbringing, Jillybean is a cheerful girl who enjoys other people's happiness more than anything. She has a relentless determination to stay upbeat, and although she has her moments of fear and misery, she keeps them private, meaning that in extreme circumstance, her smile is a desperate farce. But for the most part, she is genuine. She gets along extremely easily with other people, even people who don't get along with her. Her tendency to like everybody combined with her sometimes grating mannerisms occasionally create very one-sided freindships. Jillybean's relation to the world around her is a paradoxical mixture of worldliness and naivete. She has probably seen more of the universe than anyone else at Elfen High, but she has never been away from her troupe before, which means she lacks context for many everyday things. She is very close with the members of her troupe, and being away from them at Elfen High will be a lonely time for her, although she will endeavour not to show it. She has a strong spiritual side, as all clowns do, although it is based more around introspection and inner wellbeing than worship of external forces. There is a certain zen in slapstick.
History: True Clowns (as opposed to humans in makeup) are interdimensional travellers who use their art for spiritual and altruistic purposes. Jillybean was born into the Grimaldi troupe, one of the oldest and most prestigious of clown dynasties, and studied business and gags at the feet of Old Flubbo, a living legend in clowning circles. She underwent her baptism of confetti at age 11, allowing her to take part in routines although she is still a novice. Jillybean's life took a turn for the macabre when she was attacked an almost killed by Uncle Button, a clown who "turned his face" as other clowns put it, and has a grudge against the Grimaldi troupe over the death of his son. Fearing for her safetly, her troupe sent her to Elfen High.

I love that show but each episode's like an hour long and I never have that much free time.

I've actually been reading the books as I watch the show - finished books 1 and 2, but the library has the 3rd perpetually checked out. That's okay, though, because I'm still in the first season.

Also, winter is coming.

I watched the first season of the show, read the first two books, watched the second season, then read the rest of the books.
Season 3's premiere wasn't that great, but I have high hopes for the next nine episodes.
I'm a Stannis supporter. I don't think he'll end up as king, though. It's clear he isn't The Prince That Was Promised. And I don't think there's a happy ending for him either. I just hope he has a heroic death.

It's better than the official AGOT games.
Some scenarios have spoilers, though. But you can avoid them.

I don't have a learner's permit, but it would be pointless since I don't have access to a car.

I ought to read those books one day.

The TV show, much as I like Dinklage, is a bit more inaccessible.
"Then I was fertilized and grew wise;
From a word to a word I was led to a word,
From a work to a work I was led to a work."
- Odin, Hávamál 138-141, the Poetic Edda, as translated by Dan McCoy.

I enjoy meta-humor and self-deprecation. Annoying, right?

Goodbye.

I found that if you stick with it, it explains everything you need to know, but the books do do a better job of grounding you in their world.
Dinklage is amazing, but just about everyone was perfectly cast.

No, I mean simply watching it.

I don't get HBO and dread to get it online. My computer plays videos as well as it cures cancer.

:palm: Sorry. Completely missed your meaning there.

Anyway, the books and the show make great companion pieces to each other. They can both do things the other can't.
