Personality: Stoner, Nerd. He's basically a super friendly, super smart guy who knows how to talk his way through any situation simply because he is fucking Carl Sagan.

History:Lifted from wiki:
Carl Sagan was born in Brooklyn, New York. His father, Samuel Sagan, was an immigrant garment worker from Russia, in today's Ukraine. His mother, Rachel Molly Gruber, was a housewife from New York. Carl was named in honor of Rachel's biological mother, Chaiya Clara, in Sagan's words, "the mother she never knew". Sagan graduated from Rahway High School in Rahway, New Jersey, in 1951.
He had a sister, Carol, and the family lived in a modest apartment near the Atlantic Ocean, in Bensonhurst, a Brooklyn neighborhood. According to Sagan, they were Reform Jews, the more liberal of Judaism's three main groups. Both Sagan and his sister agree that their father was not especially religious, but that their mother "definitely believed in God, and was active in the temple...and served only Kosher meat". During the depths of the Depression, his father had to accept a job as a theater usher.
According to biographer Keay Davidson, Sagan's "inner war" was a result of his close relations with both his parents, who were in many ways "opposites". Sagan traced his later analytical urges to his mother, a woman who had known "extreme poverty as a child", and had grown up almost homeless in New York City during World War I and the 1920s. However, his "sense of wonder" came from his father, who was a "quiet and soft-hearted escapee from the Czar". In his free time, he gave apples to the poor, or helped soothe labor-management tensions within New York's "tumultuous" garment industry. Although he was "awed" by Carl's "brilliance, his boyish chatter about stars and dinosaurs", he took his son's inquisitiveness in stride, as part of his growing up. In his later years as a writer and scientist, Sagan would often draw on his childhood memories to illustrate scientific points, as he did in his book, Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors. Sagan describes his parents' influence on his later thinking:
My parents were not scientists. They knew almost nothing about science. But in introducing me simultaneously to skepticism and to wonder, they taught me the two uneasily cohabiting modes of thought that are central to the scientific method.

Weaknesses: Human society is something alien to him. While he has managed to adapt slightly... Well, his knowledge of it isn't optimal, is what I'm trying to say. He also has the flu and his eyesight is poor, he uses glasses for this reason.
Personality: Well, as stated up there he's not entirely adapted to human civilization, so he might appear as kind of savage to some people (Sometimes he slips into a demonic language while speaking or does something that humans don't do, stuff like that), but he's actually a kind person and means well. He's quite curious as well, and tends to underestimate danger when it is present.
History: Erik Newgate was, quite literally, born and raised in Hell. His father was a hardass who got lost on a mission on Hell, and his mother was a slave who was rescued by his father. The two raised him to the best of their ability, but, living in Hell and stuff, it stands to reason that he's, well, different from regular humans.
Eventually he drifted away from his home. By which I mean, he had an argument with his father and left, because that shit happens, even when you live in a completely different dimension than the rest of humanity.
Either way, living in Hell, he learned to fight and to survive. He learned the languages of Hell as well as many other things about it, mainly what is edible and what isn't.
And living on Hell, eventually he found the ISSR. Thankfully, his parents taught him some English, so he managed to communicate with the humans from the ISSR. They thought he would be a good addition or some shit, so they took him in. He now works as a linguist in the ISSR.
Erik worked in the first Roads Untravelled along with some other people, and saw a lot of shit. Either way he's back for part 2 now, ten years later. During that time, he acquired citizenship in the United Demonic Kingdoms, trained, published a book in Demonic and helped decipher and ancient dialect, proving that having a savage in the crew was indeed useful.
Equipment: A sword and an axe made of an extremely strong and durable metal native to Hell, a dagger made from the tooth of a hellish Sabertooth Tiger thingy, a notepad, three pencils, a lenght of rope, a sack of food and a jetpack.
