Yep, I believe the Triarii had spears, though the Polybian reforms have been long past. Not going to argue about historical accuracy since this is a small new elite force… though come to think about it, would any Roman by this time still use spears as a main weapon?

(edit: okay, will be disappearing for a day now- just thought I'd add one thing- I find it completely deplorable and embarrassing that I'm inferring the info up there from a game [0AD]… I totally need to know more things! =p )

Oh and Attito you can't deflect pila, it just sticks onto your shield, and if you do manage to get it out it's hard to throw since it has a different weight and balance than your ordinary javelin.

Also, whoever posted about an army of Centurions, are you okay? Centurions were the leaders, Legionaries, the soldiers.

As for the Han/Roman Duel in the Khyber pass, Chinese Infantry didn't fight as one. It was 'dishonorable'. Instead, warfare was hundreds of individual duels.
