Dammit I got rexplain this all over again. First find Anna's app and read a couple of pages after that.

Making a long statement short, Anna can not take away powers, she can only cancel your powers so you can't use it. She only says "she take your powers away" because she herself doesn't know the full meaning of her powers.

Later when he became older he was jumped and he "accidently" burned the muggers to ashes. He was able to keep this a secret however a few months later his parents found out. Upon finding out about this event his parents kicked him out of the house and sent him to the Sylvan Academy.
