The Gathering Storm: A Wheel of Time RP

Image

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.

I thought I'd introduce a Wheel of Time RP, seeing as no one else had thought to do the same. I'm thinking along the lines of the happenings at the start of The Gathering Storm, the 12th book of the series, as the title might suggest.
Preferably make your own character, within the WOT universe of course- so don't go around making apps that don't fit.

In the beginning, the Creator made the Wheel of Time, which spins the Pattern of the Ages using the lives of men and women as its threads. The Wheel has seven spokes, each representing an age, and it is rotated by the One Power, which flows from the True Source. The One Power is divided into male and female halves, saidin and saidar, which work in opposition and in unison to drive the Wheel. Those who can use this power are known as channelers; one organization of such channelers is the Aes Sedai.

The Creator imprisoned Shai'tan, known as the Dark One, a powerful, evil being, at the moment of creation, sealing him away from the Wheel. However, in a time called the Age of Legends, the Dark One was given purchase in the world through the machinations of people who opened his prison, and began his efforts to conquer the world, creation, and even the Wheel itself. In response to this, the Wheel spun out the Dragon, a channeler of immense power, to be a champion for the Light. Due to the cyclical nature of the Wheel, there has been no definitive victory for the forces of the Light; the war has been fought innumerable times since the dawn of Creation. The Dragon would defeat Shai'tan and seal him from the Wheel, only to have him come close to breaking out (or being released) several millennia later, forcing the Dragon to be reborn and repeat the entire process.

About 3000 years have passed since the last war between Shadow and Light. This war ended when the Dragon, then born as Lews Therin Telamon, led a daring raid to Shayol Ghul and sealed the breach in the Dark One's prison with the help of a group of other male channelers known as the Hundred Companions. Though Lews Therin succeeded, the Dark One managed to spread a taint on saidin itself, bringing madness and a wasting sickness to any who channeled it. The taint quickly overcame nearly every male channeler in the world, including Lews Therin and his companions, with catastrophic results that radically changed the face of the earth. From then onwards, Lews Therin was also called the "Kinslayer", as one of the last results of his madness was to destroy everyone who carried his blood as well as everyone he loved.

For these reasons, the return of the Dragon is a cause for both hope and fear amongst the populace. On the one hand, the Dragon Reborn is the only person capable of defeating Shai'tan, who will inevitably begin to escape his prison. On the other, the Dragon Reborn will still be prey to the madness caused by the taint of evil in saidin, and is a harbinger of the horrifying fact that Shai'tan is once more breaking free. The only man who can save the world is also the man most likely to destroy it. He must not only work to unite the civilized world against the Dark One, but struggle to stay alive, for while the prophecy indicates he will be reborn, it says nothing as to whether he will succeed...

Several Ta'veren, or those around whom the Pattern of Ages bends, have been discovered across the continent, but none so strong as those found in Shienar, right on the Dark One's own doorstep. The Dragon Reborn could very well be any one of the Ta'veren, or none at all. The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills.

While the Ta'veren in this age are numerous, the Forsaken have not dwindled in number since the last raid on Shayol Ghul led by Lews Therin himself, and many have recruited numerous darkfriends to aid in the elimination of the many possible threats to their dark master. They are ruthless and cunning in their strikes on the Ta'veren and their Aes Sedai allies.

The Aes Sedai and their warders are split amongst themselves about the best course of action to take concerning the Ta'veren. Some, such as the Red Ajah, say that all males who can channel should be stilled before they have a chance to go mad and harm themselves and others, however other Aes Sedai suggest helping the Ta'veren, not knowing which might be himself the Dragon Reborn.

Recently, there have been clashes between two opposing forces of Aes Sedai. One is under the command Egwene al'Vere, and the other is under Elaida. Egwene has recently been captured, even as her Aes Sedai and those soldiers under her general, Gareth Bryne, continue to besiege Tar Valon. The Black Ajah continue to scheme within and outside the White Tower, and Egwene seeks to undermine Elaida from her position within the tower. The Asha'man and other male channellers not in that organization still come to odds with Aes Sedai fairly often. Meanwhile, Perrin, in the wake of the previous book, saved his wife from the Shaido via an alliance with a Seanchan Banner-General and her army. The Dragon Reborn, with the help of a few Aes Sedai aligned to him, interrogates Semirhage, though the situation may soon change. Meanwhile, the Forsaken (including Semirhage, obviously) plot, and Darkfriends continue to find ways to undermine the servants of Light whenever they can. Mat Cauthon continues to travel with the Daughter of the Nine moons and his other companions. More or less it, apart from a few minor things.

Bio: He was born in Cairhien. His father was a powerful noble, and he was afforded a good education and training from childhood for the rigours of aristocracy and life at the court, with considerable talent at Daes Dae'mar. It seemed like the world was his from the very start. It also helped that his father was a Blademaster, one with knowledge of the technique known as the Flame and the Void, which would help him considerably as he grew up.
But that was only the start of things. His mother was an Aes Sedai, and as such, he was taught to be comfortable with the One Power from an early age. He didn't always get to spend as much time with his mother as he might have liked, but the time he did have was certainly unique.

One day, when he was around fourteen years old, he fell through the ice in the frozen bond at the back of the manor whilst playing with friends. When he came to his surface; to his horror, his head hit ice instead of air. He frantically looked for the hole, but the freezing cold started to disorient him. As he ran out of air, he began to panic. Just before he reached he passed out. The ice above him broke above him. He surfaced and called for help. The next week was spent recovering. But a lingering sickness set in that finally broke after several intense days. In the months to come, he slowly came to realize that he had channelled. But he kept this a secret for fear of what his friends and family might think, especially in fear that the Aes Sedai might find out and Red Ajah would “deal”, with him. He developed a paranoid, though well-founded fear that he might be caught and gentled, even with the parents that he had.

He knew that he could channel, but he did everything he could to keep that a secret. There were many groups in the land who would kill him- or worse, for what he could do. However, when he was alone, or when no one would notice, he used his new abilities in ways to help others. Gradually, his skills grew, and he became quite adept at weaving flows.

For reasons that are best kept quiet, he once travelled to the slopes of Shayol Ghul. There, he had a most interesting experience. Secrets were revealed unto him of how the Great Lord was planning to destroy the Light. The Myrddraal there were shown his face, and told to be sure their Trollocs did not hurt him. When he left the lands of the Blight, something about him had changed. There were some plans that he intended to bring to fruition, in the name of the Great Lord.
