"With good reason! You threatened the Soviet Union with your lies of us planning to attack NATO forces! And I had my guards load their guns, you pointed your guards gun first!" Alexei angrily said, slightly calming down.

Alexei could take no more. He drew his pistol and aimed it at the vice president's guard. He yelled as he was drawing it "How dare you slander the Soviet Union with such vile lies!" He guards all cocked their guns and kept them aimed at the American.

"Neither shall your threats against the Soviet Union! I will see to it NATO burns in the fires of the Soviet Army if all its leaders are the same as you!" Alexei said cocking his gun.

January 4th, 1976
West of Leipzig, Germany

The morning was quiet; unusually so. The pop of small arms from the opposing sides punctuated the air, but the roar of artillery was suspiciously missing. Tank crews nervously exchanged small talk, trying to defuse the crushing tension of waiting for the impending mission. Soldiers hustled into Marders and took up position in reserve areas. Suddenly, dull thuds could be heard in the distance, followed by the screech of artillery shells flying overhead. Multiple batteries of M109s fired in unison at the WP in the outskirts of Leipzig while M110s opened up on enemy air defense positions. LARS rained down as their rockets streaked through the air and impacted in the outskirts.

Following the artillery bombardment, the ground attack began. The FRG 2nd Panzergrenadier led the assault, with elements of the US 3rd Armored Division providing support. The Leopard 1's engines rumbled as they charged across the German plain and began firing at entrenched WP positions while AH-1's provided over-watch. The tanks and helicopters intense fire covered the advancing Marders as they closed on the buildings, firing into them and dismounting their infantry. The infantry began fighting house to house, trying to dislodge the WP troops.

Overhead, two squadrons of F-15s covered the assault, making sure no WP aircraft would get through. Several platoons of MIM-72 Chaparrals, MIM-23 Hawks, and several MIM-14 Hercules were located behind the lines to provide further air-cover.

The 9. Panzerdivision had been lucky in being mostly unaffected by the conflict which had occured thus far in the West. The artillery barrage from NATO was expected; but it was hardly of the magnitude Deep Operations Theory called for. NATO airpower was noticabely posied to combat any transgressor that might come upon them. Combined Warsaw Pact air defense forces trained their missiles upon the aircraft flying overhead.

The presence of these aircraft however didn't stop the brave pilots of the Landstreitkräfte from attempting to breakthrough and strike at NATO forces advancing on Leipzig. NATO air defenses were light closer to the advancing front line units but got thicker the further behind the lines. Two fighter bombers were lost to the combined anti-aircraft fire from the ground but not before they'd released their cluster bomb loads onto the vehicles below; at least two MIM-72's and one MIM-23 being destroyed in the carnage of over a dozen vehicles being set ablaze.

The battle on the ground however was much more intense. Infantry units fought fiercly to hold their ground whilst East German T-72's tried to pick off as many Leopard 1's as they could. The Leopard's being designed for speed at the cost of protection and survivability were vulnerable to direct hits and as such there was an intense battle between the armored units on both sides.
