That's why you ascend to symbiosis with nanites. Trans-human humans for the win. And well, if you get assimilated by nanites infused with you, post-human humans for the win?

Also, I do like my idea of the Exalted however with Nanites serving a role similar to the beneficial bacteria in our guts. They stick with our species- are transferred mother-to-child, and thus the nanites become an important, defining part of the species.
