I can just say that the Civil War ended in a spectacularly hilarious way: the CSA starts refusing to ship cotton to Europe, unless someone recognizes their secession. The UK gets batshit and invades the USA via Canada, since Brits love cotton. The 2nd American Indipendence war starts.

Union troops quickly are shuffled to the northern border to deal with the invasion, giving a massive Confederate army led by Jackson the opportunity to enter DC via Virginia and take Washington.

The Union accepts the Confederation's winning conditions, which are, well, acknowleding their secession, then proceeds to overrun the British armies in Canada and win the 2nd Indipendence war.

Thank the USA AI for derping to absurd levels. Seems like Michigan is much more important strategically than DC. Especially if DC is surrounded by Confederate troops.

IJ, We're preparing to enter battle. Isn't it a little... risky, for a gunnery officer to leave her post. When we're about to go into battle.
