My official excuse is that since Dakkit left her to do it alone, she had to focus a great deal. To focus she shut all outside noises out, and thus never heard the announcement.

This is the future. Piss poor would be able to buy outdated tech. Outdated tech being T-90's and gunships like the Void Hunters use. You'll want to have the capability of taking out enemy support. This is why you see even piss-poor insurgents or pirates in the modern day using Stingers and RPG's.
