The Skrael Coast was founded due to the exploration of various Norse explorers in the New World. Their attempts to establish settlements were unsuccessful until the city of Nye Hjem was founded. It's defensible, central(In the Americas.) position allowed it to rapidly become a center of trade. After it's success, many merchants and trappers started settlements from Vinland south to Nye Hjem. Until very recently the Skrael Coast was simply a loose organization of trading communities and outposts, but the establishment of a mercantile system led to the declaration of one nation. This became the Skrael Coast.
Brief Description of your nation's economy:
The economy of the Skrael Coast is very much trade oriented. Other than it's status as a trade power, the Skrael Coast is also known for it's fishing and trapping industries. It has one of the most stable economies in the Americas.

The Skrael Coast is a Merchant Republic. An elected leader, known as a Konsul is chosen by the upper class to handle the economic and political affairs of the realm. This leader has the power to declare war and appoint military leaders. Other than His power, there is also a parliament of thirty randomly selected merchants, who have even greater power when exercised unanimously.
Brief Description of your nation's populace:
The Nation's populace is primarily Native American due to the rather recent creation of the nation. Despite this, the government is entirely ran by Scandinavians. This hasn't caused much of a political issue yet, but there still lies the sleeping issue of ethnicity.
Most of the population have jobs as farmers or fishermen, with craftsmen, merchants and trappers making up the rest of the primary jobs.

That being said, y'all need to slow down: to avoid pretty much exactly what it happening (namely, the Danes interfering), the pirates would not have chosen to attack close to Danish lands. The intercept location would probably be in the narrow portion between Malmo and Sassnitz. If that failed, the closest they would dare to go would be twenty miles out of the Oresund/Copenhagen, which is still way out of LOS.
Furthermore, if the Danes did intervene, the pirates would just high tail it out of there. They're not going to agree to search and seizure by the Danes, that's for sure.

OK, I'll be brutally honest with you.
Apparently, the RPer of the German Empire wants me to stop your expedition from reaching the new world, for as of yet unexplained reasons: I agreed, given that having a relative superpower on my side would be useful. The whole 'stop the pirates' thing was simply a ploy to get your expeditionary ships into my port, where the Germans could presumably sabotage your operation, or sink them when they left harbour again.
