(OOC: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=221723)

1850
Las Vegas, Nevada
March, 1960

As the sun set over the Strip at 1850, the lights turned on, illuminating the entertainment capital of the world. Signs advertised the various clubs, casinos, and other attractions as tourists and locals alike frolicked around. A multitude of cars drove down the Strip, as many more people walked on the sidewalk. It's been a month since Castro tossed out the Mafia and their casinos, brothels, and clubs, and as a result, the Mafia has found a new home in Las Vegas, owning most of the attractions in Vegas, while the various families of the Mafia duke it out for control of the rackets, crime rings, and other moneymakers.

At the Sands Hotel and Casino, Copa Room

The extravagent showroom of the Sands is busy tonight, packed with the usual upper-class crowd that frequents the hotel. Tonight, the Marvels would be performing for the audience, as they were booked for most of the night. Round tables were set up, and FBI Agent Scott Halloran sat at one, watching the stage as he smoked a Lucky Strike and drank a glass of scotch. The large, intimidating Marine Corps veteran wore a black suit, with a white dress shirt and a black tie. He was an intimidating fellow, growing up as the son of Irish immigrants in Prohibition-era North Carolina, before serving in World War II and Korea. During World War II, he was held in a Japanese POW Camp for 2 months before escaping. After leaving the Marines and becoming an FBI Agent, he earned a reputation as a brutal, efficient agent. For his next mission, Halloran was given the task of infiltrating the Mafia in Vegas. He could probably earn a job as a bodyguard, or an enforcer for the Mafia, due to his experiences with violence.

"Alright mamma. Yes yes, I said I'm fine. Alright...Look I--I gotta go. Ti amo, say hi to dad for me." Cirillo said, finally being able to hang up the phone and sigh, shaking his head before lighting up a cigarette. His mother sure could ramble, and the more she did that the more he had to lie to her, not something he enjoyed but that was necessary. He strode over to the mirror, admiring the craftsmanship on the new attire that his friend Ethan Stephens, a local performer, had picked out. It was definitely high class, a fine deep red material. Something he never thought that he'd end up in, that's for sure. He leanded against the wall near the mirror, deciding to finish up his smoke before he headed downstairs. he was currently in his suite in The Sands, courtesy of Ethan as well. Not a locale owned by the Genovese Family--or any family--but one of the finer places to stay if you were going to spend any time in Vegas.

As he finished up the cigarette, he heard a knock at the door. Tossing the smoke into the ash tray on his dresser, he made his way to the door and pulled it open, greeted by the grinning face of Ethan Stephens. "Heya kid, how's it goin'?" was the greeting he recieved.

Cirillo couldn't help but grin, slapping his friends shoulder as he exited his room and locked the door behind him. "Great as always Ethan, hope you're ready to spend some cash." Cirillo said.

"I'm already spendin' thousands of bucks on you, you spoiled little brat, I think you can buy some drinks tonight." Ethan replied with a chuckle as they began making their way down the hall. "Besides, I don't have a performance tonight, so I can drink all I want. Get your wallet out." he continued in jest.

"Yeah well if you puke all over my shoes I'm gonna kick you out a window." Cirillo replied as he and his companion reached an elevator, hopping in with another group of people boarding the elevator, presumably on their way to the same destination. Cirillo waited until they were heading to the room in which the stage was held to speak again. "Heard anything new that me and my friends might like to know?" he asked as they found a seat in the room.

"Not much, unless your boss wants to know about sex lives and such." Ethan replied, taking a seat. Cirillo hailed a waiter, ordering two shots of whiskey for them.

"I don't think that'll be of much use to us." Cirillo said with a dry grin. "Not too busy right now anyway, so it's not really of consequence I suppose."

"Yeah, just don't shoot me." Ethan joked.

As the two men spoke, Halloran listened to them, but watched the stage as to not make it apparent. The Marvels were due to appear at any time now, and the spectators waited in anticipation.

Gambleville

Vito was in one of the casinos ran by his Family in Vegas, the Gambino Family. He was a Capo, and ran most of the Family in the city. He sat back in his chair, in the backroom of the casino, smoking a cigar and drinking some whiskey. The back room was full of drugs, the casino was a front for drug trafficking in addition to a gambling facility. Vito said to a wealthy client "Everything here is genuine and pure stuff. We got coke, heroin, speed, anything you can think of. Whadda ya want?"
The client said "I want 10 grams of coke to deal."
Vito said "Sure thing. Just hand over $5000."
The client handed Vito a briefcase. Vito handed the client back another. "Pleasure doing business with ya." Vito said.

"So, uh...How's business?" Ethan asked, downing his drink as Cirillo did the same. "Not too bad. Like I said though, been slow lately." Cirillo said, as they were brought two more drinks. He'd noticed a man sitting alone at a table, and then noticed another walk in and join him--whispering and looking back at his table. "Hey, Ethan...see those guys over there? I think they're feds." Cirillo said in a hushed whisper. Ethan nodded silently. After their suspicions were raised, they resumed their previous friendly chatter, but were careful to leave out any details about Cirillo's 'work.'

"You seen these ladies before?" Ethan asked, leaning back in his seat. Cirillo lit up a smoke for himself.

"Yeah, a few times. They're lookers." the mafioso commented, taking a drag from his cigarette.

"Ain't all the Hollywood broads?" Ethan said with a grin, taking a drink.

Eva arrived a few hours before the show at The Copa. Eva and The Marvels were asked to perform at The Copa room on short notice, and if things went well they could be booked a few more times after that. The plane landed at the air port around noon. Eva stepped off the plane onto the tarmac, the sun caused a reflection off her gold rimmed glasses as she waited for a car to pick her up. A few minutes after getting her bags a black Lincoln Continental pulled up beside her. The chauffeur opened up her door and stowed away her luggage. The leather seats were warm, but bearable and the lavish interior was to her liking.

As they drove to The Sands, Eva couldn't believe her eyes. The once desert waste land was now a land of glitz and glamour. It was hard to believe this was now the newest hot spot for millionaires, musicians and even mafioso. Her thoughts were full of excitement, to perform at The Copa was a big deal to her. The rest of her career was riding on this, if things went well, she could possibly make the jump into films.

Eva pulled up to The Sands and quickly made her way to the dressing room to prepare. Anita and Janelle were already in the back dressed and rehearsing their dance steps. Eva had met Anita and Janelle in Miami at the Miramar Playa. The duo had a great act, however they were missing a singer and Eva gladly filled the position. Since then the three girls were able to book shows around the world, from Italy, Paris, NYC and now Vegas. Eva said her quick hellos to the girls and headed to her dressing room. She practiced her rendition of Sway as she put on a blood red dress that had a slit alongside her right leg. She painted her lips a bright red, darkened her eyes, sprayed on perfume, adorned a diamond necklace and slipped on black gloves before heading out. The Marvels took their places behind the curtain, with Eva taking center stage. She could hear the chatter from the audience and it sounded like a full house. Back stage was crazy with people running about, the band taking it's place. A waitress came by and brought Eva a glass of champagne, that she quickly downed. As the curtain opened Eva stepped forward, with a seductive smile on her face. Her green eyes looked over the crowd as people called her name, clapping as the band began to play. Eva looked at a man in the audience and gave him a wink, then Eva started to sing.....

As Agent Lore brought up their mission, Halloran changed the subject to Lucky Strikes, as to not throw away their cover.

"Want a Lucky?" Halloran asked. "They're toasted, which makes them better for you."

When the young female singer and her band took the stage, Halloran's gaze was captured as dirty thoughts began to run through his mind, thinking of all of the sexual acts he would do with them. Perhaps it was the alcohol, or maybe the Irish-American was just a horndog. Whatever it was, Halloran proceeded to take a sip of his scotch before taking yet another puff of his cigarette as the lights began to dim, and the music started, captivating the entire audience.

"The things I'd do to those women..." Halloran said. "What 'bout you?"

Detective George Collins stepped out of the station and into the glimmering Vegas night. It was the fourth day in a row George had to stay late, case work had been piling up. Collins walked out to his Series 62 Convertible and sat down inside before taking out a smoke. He leaned back in his seat and took a long drag, trying to forget the stress of work. It was time to unwind and so he headed for the Sands. Collins smiled, he liked to keep the local families on their toes.

George entered the casino and walked into the Copa room. It seemed the show had already started and so he quietly sat down in the back. He smiled at a passing waitress and ordered a whiskey. Collins glanced around at the people who had shown up tonight. Some of the family's soldiers were sitting at a table at the front. The detective raised his glass at them and feigned a grin. He couldn't do anything to the family, no charges would ever stick. They also couldn't do anything to him, killing a cop would get the whole department knocking down their door.

Two men were trying to act inconspicuous and watch the show. George groaned, they were obviously cops of some kind. He didn't recognize them, maybe they were feds. Collins sighed and took another shot.

The stage lights made the Eva's diamond necklace sparkle like a million stars, that seemed to reflect across every surface in The Copa Room. Eva's voice was deep, sultry, rich, and smooth. It was the kind of voice that made the hairs on your neck stand up, give you goosebumps on your arms and kept you captivated. Eva was singing Rosemary Clooney's rendition of Sway, and oh did she make the crowd sway...

"When marimba rhythms start to play, dance with me....make me sway, like the lazy ocean hugs the shore.....hold me close, sway me more"

During her performance Eva noticed a couple men who stood out. They were all rather handsome, their eyes were on her. However when she saw Ethan Stephens with some Italian looking man, she knew she had to mess with them. Ethan was a singer like herself, but he was much more well known. Eva stepped down and slowly walked over to their table as Anita and Jenelle sang the chorus.

"Like a flower bending in the breeze...bend with me, sway with ease, when we dance you have a way with me,stay with me.....sway with me"

She arrived at their table she took one of their drink from them and took a sip, her bright red lips leaving the faintest stain. She turned to Ethan and winked and then sat on the table facing the Italian looking man

"Other dancers may be on the floor, dear, but my eyes will see only you, only you have that magic technique.....when we sway I grow weak"

Eva uncrossed her legs and walked back to the stage, turning around and smiling at the crowd. It was the start of the big finish and she wanted to impress everyone. Two male dancers came from the stage, both man dancing with her.

"Quien sera el que me quiere a mi, quien sera, quien sera, quien sera el que me de su amor, quien sera, quien sera"

The audience clapped while the two male dancer hoisted Eva onto to their shoulders so she towered above everyone in the room

"I can hear the sound of violins, long before,It begins.....make me thrill as only you know how...sway me smooth....sway me now...sway me smooth, sway me now!!!"

And with that the men dropped Eva in the center of the spotlight as the crowd stood up clapping.....

"Dios maledetto, did you see those eyes...well, just...did you see her?" Cirillo stammered above the applause to the man across the table, Ethan not being able to keep himself from laughing at his friend's reaction. "Ho boy, the big tough city kid, stunned and stumbling because of a woman!" Stephens laughed. Cirillo only glared at him.

"Not such a ladies' man yourself there, friend."

"I don't think you were looking at eyes either!" Ethan continued, still laughing.

"Shut the fuck up." Cirillo said, but he couldn't he back laughter when he said it.

Halloran continued to watch the two men, as well as the show. Like the other patrons, he began to clap before whispering over to Agent Lore. Stars like her were bound to cross paths with the Mafia, whether she needed protection, extra money, or drugs.

"Keep an eye on her," Halloran whispered.

Detective Bill Gannon pulled his car into the parking lot of a small diner near the outskirts of the city. Stepping out of the car, Gannon looked at the direction of the Strip and took one last drag on his cigarette before dropping it in his car’s ashtray. Damn, he thought, I could be having drinks with George and watching that new act in the Copa, but no I just had to meet with this lowlife. Gannon had no one to blame but himself really as he volunteered to meet with the informant Freddy Canary and catch up with Collins as soon as he could. Gannon looked around as he stepped inside and noticed one other person sitting at the far end of the counter, away from the window. “Sorry bud,” the cook said, “I just shut the grill off and I’ll be closing up in a few minutes.”

“That’s fine,” Gannon replied, taking a seat next to the other customer, “I just wanted a cup of coffee anyway.” As the cook moved to pour the cup, Gannon turned to the customer, “Do you have a light?” Gannon asked, “I left my Zippo in the car.”

“Y-yah” came the shaky reply, as the other man pulled a lighter out of his pocket and handed it to Gannon, almost dropping it.

“Alright, tell me what’s so important that you needed to speak to me,” Gannon said lighting another cigarette and handing the lighter back, “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

“There’s something big about to go down,” Canary said quietly, “I heard th-things, things from high level people. They referenced something b-big about to take place, something that’ll rebalance the power in the city.” If Gannon wasn’t listening before, he was all ears now,

“Is it war?” Gannon asked fearing the worst,

“N-no,” Canary replied, looking more and more nervous, “I heard someone mention some important shipment comin’ in that’ll make one of the families a lot of money, and even more enemies capisce?” He looked around once more, “That’s it… I got to go.”

“Not so fast,” Gannon said, “What’s in the shipment, dope? Guns?”

“I don’t know, I don’t even know what family ordered it, just that there seems to be talk about some shipment coming in the next few days.”

Gannon sighed and slipped Canary his usual fee, who rather than count it out like normal, simply pocketed it and hurried out the door. Gannon sighed again, as he left some money on the counter and headed back to his car. Once behind the wheel, Gannon headed towards the Sands, hoping that Collins was still there, and not too drunk.

The crowd roared with applause, most gave a standing ovation for Eva and The Marvels. Sure The Marvels was a trio, a girl group, but Eva....she was the star. She was quite excited to see Ethan Stephens in the crowd, now he was a real star. If anyone's word carried weight in that room, his carried the most. He had a great voice and is even friends with members of the Rat Pack. Eva hoped to get a word in with him after her next song, but first she needed a break.

Anita and Jenelle took the stage as Eva headed to her dressing room. She grabbed another glass of champagne as she unzipped her dress and kicked of her heels. She retouched her make-up and slipped on an emerald and diamond necklace, a tight fitting green satin dress that showed off her legs and slipped on white gloves. The stunning emeralds and dress really made her green eyes stand out, especially with her dark eyeliner. Before heading back out on stage, the young singer took one final look in the mirror, making sure everything was in place. Anita and Jenelle did 2 numbers while Eva got ready and now it was time for the big finale, and Eva picked a song that was sure to win the crowd.

Eva took center stage once more and the band started to play Mambo Italiano

"A girl went back to Napoli, because she missed the scenery, the native dances and the charming songs, but wait a minute, something's wrong.......Hey, mambo! Mambo italiano! Hey, mambo! Mambo italiano!"
"Go, go, go you mixed up sicialiano, all you calabraise-a do the mambo like a crazy with a, Hey mambo, don't wanna tarantella, Hey mambo, no more a mozzarella, Hey mambo! Mambo italiano!"

Eva once again stepped off the stage and strutted her way past Ethan to a table where two dapper looking men were sitting, they seemed to stand out, perhaps they were cops Eva thought. One of them had a cigarette in his mouth, so she took it, took a quick puff and placed it back.

"Hey mambo! mambo italiano! Hey mambo! mambo italiano! Go, go, Joe, shake like a Giovanno, E lo che se dice you get happy in the feets,When you,Hey mambo! mambo italiano! Hey mambo! mambo italiano! "

She made her way back to the stage for the finale, and gave Ethan a quick peck on his cheek as she passed, catching him off guard. Hopefully that will work in her favor later on. Eva danced her way back to stage where Jenelle and Anita joined her, finishing the act. Three male dancer took the stage as well and danced with each of the girls as Eva continued on.

"It's a like a vino, kid you good a lookin' but you don't a-know what's cookin' till you, Hey mambo, Mambo italiano, Hey mambo, Mambo italiano"

At the end Eva took the mic and moved upstage into the single spotlight singing the last notes of the song.

"Ho, ho, ho, you mixed up Siciliano,it's a so delish a ev'rybody come capisce, Hey mambo, Mambo italiano, How to mambo italianoooooo!"

Cylarn wrote:Halloran continued to watch the two men, as well as the show. Like the other patrons, he began to clap before whispering over to Agent Lore. Stars like her were bound to cross paths with the Mafia, whether she needed protection, extra money, or drugs.

"Keep an eye on her," Halloran whispered.

Lore guessed Halloran would say that "Yeah, I already know that she might be connected to some scumbag out there." Lore then got up to use the restroom.

Cirillo cracked a grin as Eva made her way past, giving Ethan a kiss on the cheek, not wanting to pass up a chance to get back at him as Ethan seemed just as much surprised as Cirillo was himself, putting on his best impression of the showman's voice. "Ho boy, big Ethan Stephens struck blind by the lady, woo fella!" Cirillo said, punching his friend in the shoulder as he took another sip from his drink.

"Someone's jealous huh?" Ethan replied with a smirk.

"Yuh-huh." Cirillo replied with a roll if his eyes as they both stood in applause. "I prefer Deano's voice but ey, it was damn good." Ethan said, the mafioso nodding in agreement. "It's cause he's got the accent down." Cirillo said.

The curtain closed and Eva could hear the crowd's applause. Eva was hoping this performance caught someone's eye, someone who had some influence in town. The Marvels joined together back stage, and talked about the performance and what to do while they were in Vegas. Anita and Janelle decided to hit up the strip while Eva decided to stay behind and watch the other acts..their competition. She grabbed her white fur coat, reapplied some lipstick and perfume and headed to the main floor of The Copa room. A band played music while other watched, listening, sipping on their drinks. She saw that Ethan and his friend were still seated, so she made her way to their table

"Why hello there gentleman, I hope you enjoyed the show" Eva said with a sweet smile.

"Why yes we did, sweetheart." Ethan said as Eva made her way towards him and Cirillo, taking a sip of his whiskey, perhaps more than a bit buzzed at that point. "Not bad at all." he finished. "My Eye-tie friend here might'a had some language tips for ya though." Ethan joked.

"Sicilian, actually." Cirillo said with a chuckle. "So what swayed you to spend time among us lesser mortals, Ms. Big shot?"

"Speak for yourself, pal." Ethan said in jest.

"Well thank you, and I'll take any advice I can get. Me a big shot ? Heavens no, but thank you for the compliment. I'm not quite anywhere near Mr. Stephans, but hopefully one day I will." Eva said as she sat down opposite of the two men. A waiter passed by and Eva ordered a dirty martini. After the waiter left she turned her attention back to the men. "Well excuse my manners, I'm Eva and it is a pleasure to meet the both of you. I felt getting to know my competition could help me in the long run, also it would be nice to have a drink and unwind."

"Hate to tell you I don't have a performance on tonight, but I 'spose you could get acquainted with me and my friend here, I doubt we'll mind." Ethan said, finishing off his alcohol. "How long you in town? I've got one booked tomorrow night." Ethan asked, leaning back in his seat. "In fact, I may be able to see if King Cool can come down, he's on a bit if a break from all of his fame and fortune grabbing." Ethan said. Cirillo nodded.

"Ethan's the man you wanna know if you're a singer, I'll tell ya, bastardo utile." the mafioso said with a grin.

"Not to say our friend here doesn't come with benefits." Stephens retorted.

Eva chuckled, taking a sip of her champagne. " Bene sto sempre cercando di andare avanti." Eva said with a smile to Cirillo. She then turned her head to Ethan" Well Mr. Stephens I'm here for the week, maybe longer if the girls and I get more bookings here at The Copa. I wish they could have joined us for a drink, but they wanted to see the strip, gamble away their earnings."

The young singer leaned back in her chair, removing her fur coat, exposing her lightly tanned skin. She took a few more sips of her drink, smiling at the two men, tying to figure them out. Making nice with Ethan could help with her career, but what did Cirillo have to offer her ?

"So gentleman, please tell me how you to know each other, you seem very friendly. Let me guess....perhaps you guys fought in the war ? Or did you grow up in the same neighborhood ?" Eva inquired.

As the group conversed, Halloran listened in on the conversation, drinking his scotch and smoking his Lucky Strike as he listened. Although the conversation seemed mundane, he took everything into account. When the singer mentioned the war, Halloran began seeing the images of war once again, mainly his 2 months in hell at a Japanese POW camp. He shrugged off the thoughts and continued to listen in.

Cirillo grinned slightly, a bit surprised. "Farai bene, ne sono sicuro." Cirillo responded.

Ethan chuckled. "No, actually. Me and Cirillo only met about what, seven months ago? He'd heard of me, was a fan, decided to buy me a few drinks. Just so happened that about that time I wasn't on the best terms with a certain group of men..." Ethan began, nodding towards his friend.

"That translates into: 'I don't know how to keep my mouth shut around some people.'" Cirillo added with a smirk.

"Yeah, what he said." Ethan continued, nodding. "Turns out though, Cirillo has some good friends that could help me with my little...'problem.' They're pretty effective too." Ethan said, keeping his voice down as he'd noticed the suspicious man at the other table hadn't left.

Eva battered her green eyes and smiled but noticed Ethan kept looking at another table. She brushed a curl back behind her ear, and scanned the room quickly to see who had Ethan's attention. Eva then turned her attention to Cirillo and asked " So you must be, a lawyer perhaps ? I'm guessing someone didn't pay you what you're talents are worth Ethan ?" She then looked over and noticed two men kept glancing at her table, "It looks like someone want's an autograph or photo" Eva added, nodding towards the other men.
