Three men snuck into Ikan in the dead of night, each carrying a dagger. If one were to feel the dagger, the blade would feel slick... like it had been dipped in something. The leader of the team was named Lion. Of course, it wasn't his real name, but they all had code names. The other two were named Lynx and Bobcat. The team was actually larger, but Lion had thought that they wouldn't need many men for this mission. Ikan was hardly a hard target. Lion was trained to lead, Lynx and Ocelot to follow. "Guards." Lion said simply. Lynx and Bobcat crawled through the darkness, using it as a cloak. The men were ghosts in the night. Both men snuck up behind the guards and stabbed them, and hid the bodies. "Objective 1 is complete." Lion whispered. The men were in the city. "The Khan's palace is that way." He pointed towards the center of town. The three assassins continued their way. Lion sent up a prayer of thanks. The clouds covered the sky that night, blotting out the moon. "What's the security supposed to be like there?" Lynx asked. "Unknown. I guess we'll fine out." Lion said.

The men made it to the palace without distraction. "Alright. Let's do this." Lion said. The examined the gate. "We won't get ourselves in that." He said. "That's why we brought these." Bobcat tossed him some ropes. The men scaled up the walls. "Shit!" Bobcat hissed as some guards walked past on the walls. The men brought themselves close to the walls, relying on the darkness. "They're past." Lion said. They made their way to the top of the walls and hurried inside. "The Khan will be in the most fortified area." Lion looked around. "I'd say that way."

The team ran towards the East Wing of the small castle. Lynx bumped into a small girl. "Who are you men?" She asked. Lion drew his dagger, then looked at it regretfully. "What is your name?" He asked. "Larina." The girl said. "Who are your parents?" He asked. "My mommy died years ago of the pox. My daddy is Orgus Stonehammer. People always call him Khan for some reason." She said. The girl was the daughter of the Khan. Lion was trained for this type of situation. He stared at his dagger agonizingly, then back at her. "Why do you men have knives? Is there going to be a feast?" The girl sounded excited.

"Larina, what-" Khan Orgus Stonehammer strode into the hall, then stopped, dumbfounded. "What? Who?" He started to ask. Lion saw an opportunity and pounced. "Khan, whatever you do, do not call for guards." He gestured menacingly at Larina with his dagger. Stonehammer's eyes widened with fear. "What? No! Don't hurt her!" He pleaded. "Then... we have some terms and conditions." Lion enjoyed the position of power he was in. "Anything! I'll do anything!" Stonehammer nodded fearfully. "Ikan and the Ikan province shall secede to the Pereyaslavl Princedom. We will charge a %10 tax of any revenue in Ikan from now on. I'm sure that was done with your previous leader as well." Lion said. "%20" Stonehammer mumbled. Lion laughed. "We only want %10. When called upon, your soldiers shall accompany ours into battle." Lion continued. "Of course." Stonehammer stammered. "And what of my religion?" He asked, suddenly defiant. Lion was no fool and saw the fragility of the alliance. "You may practice what religion you like. Pereyaslavl shall not impede." He said. Stonehammer relaxed. "Very well. Ikan belongs to Pereyaslavl now. I assume you'll put some lord or duke in charge?" He asked. "I was thinking of Khan Orgus Stonehammer, but you'll have to talk to my general." Lion said. He pocketed his knife, then looked at the girl, gratefully that he had never had to use it.

Sargent Emmetovich glared across the lake side at his counter in the Walla Khanate. They had done so for ten years, and had learned many things about one another from the visual observations. They also never expected to be ordered to kill one another. Which was why Emmetovich was surprised when the local garrison commander told him of the noon raid. Emmetovich had asked why, and the Captain, a young Boyar, shrugged.

That had Emmetovich interested, as Kryvyi Rih was a unique bordertown. Several years ago, King Yuri had purchased the Fulda Gap from Mohamed Alli, the Walla Khan, in exchange for Kievan aid in making a navy. The gap had been a weakness in Kiev's defense, a detriment to a safe Kingdom. it had isolated the frontier cities of Tarasivka, Kherson, and Kremenchug. The purchase had allowed a straighter border to be built, and took the rebellious natives, mostly incited covertly by Kiev, off their hands.

The sole stipulation was that the fruitful trading town of Kryvyi Rih. The Khan wanted the whole town. Yuri wanted the whole town. They settled to split it in half. Thus the Border posts were created to stop inter travel between the now separate Kryvyi Rih. Except in the markets of course.

Emmetovich turned gazed at his sun dial. 5 more minutes. Below him, mounted on their horses, several Boyars prepared to rush the Cuman Border Post. Almost ready. Almost.........

General Pierre then ordered that a battering ram be sent to the gate. The French Soldiers pushed and pushed. Meanwhile two siege towers rolled over to the walls. They were hit by arrows lit with flame but they had no effect. Then Pierre ordered 3000 infantry clear the walls and moved his cavalry of 4000 by the gate. The gate was almost battered down and then it was smashed. The French Cavalry charged in and hit the defending Arabs. They were armed with scimitars and couldn't hit the french cavalry. Then a projectile hit the Arabs. It was a bloody battle and the Arabs may have outnumbered the French, but the French would win through strength of arms, superior arms and armor and a good heart. The french siege towers than opened and the french knights charged over the battlements and hacked and slashed the defenders. Then Pierre moved forward his halberdiers and they charged the Arab ranks and hacked to pieces many men. The city burned and the French moved quickly from house to house burning and killing. Bodies filled the streets and the siege went on......................

The 15 Boyars rode across the stretch to the Cumans. Loosing arrows at the guards, they quickly killed the two sentries. One Boyar, the captain, wheeled his horse and kicked the gate down. In charged the Boyars. Armed with swords and maces, and armored in Yushman Armor, the Boyars slaughtered the underfed, ill trained and un-armored Border militia.

Emmetovich turned to his men, a group of 10 Skirmishers and shouted, "Onward, onward to victory! Onward for RohanKiev!"

With a shout, the man ran across the stretch, following through the carnage made by the boyars, There, a Cuman Archer lay dead, his head cleaved from his body. Over the gate lay a dead Cuman, chest imploded from a horse kick.

The Boyars had advanced towards the Border Post Barracks, where several pike armed Cumans were rallying. Emmetovich and his men ran over and laye dinto the Cuman.

Emmetovich backhanded a Cuman with his grieved gauntlet, then bashed in another skull with his mace. He ducked under a pike thrust, then rolled under the horse of a boyar. Righting himself, he kicked a man in the stomach. As the man bent over in pain, the kneed upwards and the metal edge of his leg armor penetrated the mans head. Emmetovich slammed the metal studded end of the hilt of his mace into the man's skull.

Turning, he narrowly dodged a sword thrust. Knocking the inside of the wielder's over extended arm with his elbow, Emmetovich brought his mace up in an under hand strike into the man's loins. Screaming in pain, the man dropped to his knees. Emmetovich snapped his neck.

"Calm Sargent, We won" said the dismounted Boyar.

Emmetovich lowered his blade and looked around. All the Cumans were dead, and already more Kievans were advancing across the pass. Similarly, he saw several other Border Posts raise Kivan flags. The battle was one. Kryvyi Rih was theirs!

The Pereyaslavl morale was high. An entire province captured with no casualties. Kolinski pulled out a bottle of fine Venetian wine. He thought of the Venice/Kiev war for a second, then snorted. He popped the cork. "Drinks on me!" He called. "You know that's against the law." A deadly quiet voice said behind him. "Oh... hi General Kovalenko." Kolinski turned around red faced. Kovalenko's face was stony. "Alcohol! During a campaign!" The General roared. "Captain Kolinski... I get the first shot!" Kovalenko's face turned from menacing to jovial. The men laughed.

Farther down the road, things were a bit less celebratory. General Zaharchuk was more senior than Kovalenko and was too serious to engage in festivities. Hell, he probably would have had Kolinski flogged. Zaharchuk, five streltsy and two cossacks were scouting the way down the road. "Get down!" A strelet hissed and the men dove into the forest. An enemy patrol was headed towards the main group. "Flank them." Zaharchuk said.

The soldiers burst from the foliage. The Khanate troops turned around and their eyes widened before the scouting party brutally butchered them. Zaharchuk checked one of the bodies. "These troops came from Mopak." He recognized a device on one of their shields. "That's our next target."

Zaharchuk returned to the main group only to see them drinking Kolinski's wine. "Men!" He roared. Kovalenko froze and looked down, holding a wooden chalice of drink. "Oh, herro Zaharzhuk... Great day, ishn't it?" He asked, tipsy. Zaharchuk sighed. "I give up, I'm going to go live in a cave." He said. Tupolev hadn't drunk any wine either. "It's the Venetian stuff, they'll be fine tomorrow. What are our orders?" He asked. "Mopak is coming up. They sent a patrol down the road, probably to check and see why they've lost contact with Ikan." Zaharchuk said. "Mopak... that place wouldn't happen to be fortified... would it?" Tupolev's heart sank. "Big castle, high walls. A step up from that little town. Lion!" He called. The three assassins, along with Tiger, Jaguar and Housecat walked forward. "You will all undertake the assassination this time." He said. "Lion, you're the leader. Tiger, you bring the weapons. Jaguar, the hooks. Bobcat, provisions. Lynx, you're the scout. Housecat, you're the distraction." He said. "Wait, why am I the distraction?" Housecat complained. "Because you're a kitten." The assassins laughed. Housecat was the newest of the assassins, although they knew he was one of their best. A few months ago when the team was assembled, Lynx had asked Lion "The new guy... he any good?" Lion had responded, "I watched him kill three men with a butter knife. That good enough?"

The assassins walked up the road and up a hill. "Whoa! Damn!" Jaguar whistled as he saw Mopak. "That's something." He said. "That's a toy castle compared to the center of the Khanates." Lion said. "Come on. Let's go."

DeRicard turned around and rode back to camp

"I have been too extreme on the French, haven't I?" Asked Alfonso, he turned to his second In command, Claudius
"The pressure is getting on you, sir, the crusade hasn't even started officially and you are hellbent on winning, give the French a chance." Said Claudius,
"Send word to the French, make it clear that we are coming" ordered Alfonso
"What about the declaration of war?" Asked Claudius
"Intercept the message before it gets to the avery, get our fastest rider" asked Alfonso
Claudius rode off to intercept the message

The message was intercepted before it got to the avery and promptly burnt, and Alfonso rode to the Venetian camp, telling them to still march on Jerusalem, but do not attack the French as was ordered. He met with Claudius after.

"Why are you so mistrusting of the French, Sir?" Asked Claudius
"That's private" snapped Alfonso
"We march on Jerusalem, did the message get Sent to the french?" Said Claudius
"Yes" He relied

"Dear France. We march to aid you in Jerusalem. This is a holy war and not to fuel your expansionism. Allow us to help you in this war

"Well we have our orders, break the siege, and withdraw we will make camp at Kerak. Assemble the army and destroy the ladders, siege towers, and rams. The Sicilian Crusaders can have fun sieging Jerusalem on their own." The French army formed marching order and left Jerusalem. King Justin had ordered it and it was done. The Army would now take Kerak and hold as a base for fighting Heresy in the Holy Land......
