Sardinia is Roman.

This got me thinking really ahistorically.

What if there was a Roman expedition past the Mediterranean? Like, to the Caribbean? Would you even allow such an Ahistorical thing to happen? I mean, if not, I'm totally happy with Rohnst.
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

Yeah, galleys weren't the best at crossing open ocean. They generally stayed pretty close to shore.

Gonna poop on all yur plots :P

NS Name: The Cookish States
Nation Name: The French Vassal State of Corsica
Capital City: Ajaccio
Government Type: Newly Independent in 1407, guess I get to create a government :D
Head of State: Leonello Lomellino
Claimed Territory: The island of Corsica, minus Bonifacio and Calvi, which are French.
State/National Religion: Catholicism
Dominant Religion: Catholicism
Minority Religion(s): Protestantism
Population: 220,000
Population Growth Rate: +0.2%
Military Organization: Tributary Levies

Image

National Focus: Seafaring
National Idea(s): Church Attendence Day
Trade Policy: Free Trade
Civil Freedoms: Free Subjects
Primary Import(s): Metals
Primary Export(s): Citrus, cork, wood
Primary Culture: French, some Genoese
Accepted Cultures: Spain, France

Brief Description of your nation's History: Having been occupied by the Genoese and the French, the Corsicans are eager to rule themselves, and eager to spread their influence by means of exploration (aimed more towards Africa later on, starting exploration programs takes decades)
Brief Description of your nation's economy: Largely reliant on trade and being a nice porting point between the middle east and France/Spain.
Brief Description of your nation's government: Rightnow, nobleman Leonello Lomellino reigns absolutely, but soon he will be named King, and I intend to have his cabinet take on a legislative role.
Brief Description of your nation's populace: French, but darker. Open to the Spanish culture, as trade between them is now easy and more possible. Many are bi-lingual by simple necessity (a trading nation needs such things).

RP Example: I posted a few in my Inuit app...

There's a fringe theory that Saint Brenden made it to the Americas, but it's just that, a fringe theory (if you can call it a theory...). There's really no evidence that it ever occurred.

Considering the story of his voyage involves magical sea creatures, gryphon's, and promised lands, I wouldn't put to much faith in the story in its entirety.

There's also that claim that Mobile, Alabama has that a Welsh explorer made it to Mobile Bay. Course that's also a load of shit. There's no evidence of it either.

If it is near water and has valuable things in it the Vikings have been there :p
Probably brought some Welsh and Irish slaves that brought about these myths

Depends really what time period we're talking. But yes, it's not all in the Balkans. Some is in Illyria/Yugoslavia.

Yugoslavia is mostly in the Balkans...and it makes up the entirety of Serbia and the other Southern Slavic nations (minus Bulgaria)

I am unsure if 55 pirate vessels working for you so quickly is reasonable. I mean, historically nations have used pirates and called them "privateers", but I don't know. It seems... fast. More over, I feel war could be a potential boon for piracy, after all, with the fleet of fighting elsewhere, it would be easier to prey of shipping lanes no?

Still, either way, hiring so many ships, building them, and then paying off pirates is quite a bit to pay. I imagine you will need to try and find a very quick conclusion to this, especially with a professional army, lest your coffers begins to empty, at which point you are looking at a much more complex war.

Yes, I will be going for one massive naval battle involving all ships on either side. If they have to be hired for longer than say a year, royal lands will need to be sold and people framed for crimes.

Sure, it's possible. But there is no evidence that anyone save the Vikings made a trans-atlantic crossing before Columbus. After all, possible does not mean probable.

I don't remember Ajacius ever being accepted. At least, Gar never did, and he was the sole OP back then.
