Then you aren't, otherwise it would be against anyone not Catholic, as per the edict. You wouldn't have to war with them all at once, but you'd need to kill them in your country and ban their religion.

So not listening to the church. Hence to my original point, the church will most likely die soon, or relatively soon.

So, for Spain now, should I reduce from 10 million down to 8 million? Or a bit more?

Being a highly Catholic kingdom but having a not stupid monarch, I am of course going to listen and interpret the edict quite literally.

Well, I'm not sure, but you don't have a fairly large amount of Spain, and the link in the OP says Spain had 7 million in 1450, however, I think basically everyone has a population a little larger than it probably would have been, so maybe 7 million?

It doesn't leave a lot of room for interpretation, so you aren't listening to the church, so again, aside from the Danes, no one is, and I anticipate the church dying.

EDIT: MISREAD THAT.

Or the Pope will revoke the edict. I just might make the Catholic church of Poland.

It has several loopholes that I can fully exploit.

The big one being it calls for the death of heretics in lands that the church has jurisdiction. Which I shall interpret as lands directly administered by the church.

From the letter is "From henceforth, all faiths that have been listed as heretical shall be outlawed, and shall not be practiced in any County of Europe where the Roman Catholic Church holds jurisdiction."

Since he didn't make a direct list exactly, I think it is implied and would include all religions but the Roman Catholic Church as having been listed as heretical. While in the IC post he lists the orthodox among Jews, Cathars, and Muslims, implying all of them are considered heretical.

I he revokes it, he is basically admitting he has no power and so the institution would begin to collapse anyway.

Well, if you are being literal, the letter also says "Those of the unclean faiths must be corrected, or perish at the hands of God's faithful servants. It is time to do God's work."

So if your people/king are God's faithful servants they should, unless your nation does not consider Roman Catholics God's faithful servants.

I doubt the Church will look at a nation purposely interpreting a message incorrectly differently from the way it looks at one nation that outright ignored it.

Heretics will be killed, certainly; That does not mean that every person who doesn't follow the Pope, twelve percent of my nation I might add, will be killed. But a show of loyalty is certainly not not following them.

So you will not be following the churches orders because you disagree with it. Hence, you are not listening and in fact ignoring the church, at least to some extent. I'm not saying you can't, though I find it very odd that in a time when the church was supremely important you wouldn't, I'm just pointing out it will most likely contribute to the Catholic churches complete collapse.
