It'll take some time, though in the case of Elemental Champions Tenaembra and Caelstion would probably speed up the process of granting them power.

Yeah, in most cases it's not as much merging Light/dark with the character's Element (Though it works out pretty well in Fire's case) so much as having attack diversity.
