I could probably shoot a railgun shot out of the sky if I had lasers instead of mini-guns.

You'd be better off damaging the shell with bullets, even if you had a powerful enough laser to melt tungsten, you'd now have boiling hot metal flying at hypersonic speeds heading at your men, which is arguably worse.
