This is Lieutenant Colonel Dave Wilds, also known as Gun Bear of Gun Special Squadrons. I am the commanding officer of Bear's Brigade and the 2IC of the corporation. Today's Date is December 25th, 3067 and on this holiday me and those under my command are about to embark in a war on an unprecedented scale the likes of which has not been seen in the history of humanity. There have been many great wars throughout the history of our species, from the great wars that are now only remembered in legends, to the succession wars which nearly destroyed all of our technological achievements and the Clan Wars which in many ways got us back on track - each of them was in its time seen as a war like no other but for the first time since man deployed the battlemech this is actually true. The HPG network that linked all of humanity together to share news, stock prices, personal correspondence, and just about everything else is gone and for the first time since we set foot on another planet the galaxy has fallen silent.
The men and women of Gun Special Squadrons are about to set off to do battle with an enemy we do not even know the identity of, an enemy who's opening gambit has left entire worlds stranded in the vastness of space and entire multistellar governments on the verge of collapse...
And so as we go boldly forward into whatever awaits us in the trenches of a thousand planets we have determined to set down a record of each of our experiences leading up to this day. The following data is all personal accounts of the individual experiences, thoughts, and dreams of the mechwarriors who will be laying down their lives for the future of humanity for better or worse. We do this in hopes that if we should fall to the last man that somewhere our legacy will still survive and our stories will not go untold.
Playback Ends.
Welcome to Battletech: Memory Core. Here you will find the various stories detailing the personal history of the mechwarriors, aerospace pilots, armor specialists, combat vehicle crews, support technicians, and other members of Bear’s Brigade, a subordinate unit of the mercenary command Guns Special Squadron. By understanding the individual past of every member, by delving into their experience and psyche, the sum totality of Bear’s Brigade, its capability and combat logic, can be understood.
Given that Memory Core is not a traditional roleplaying thread, special rules do apply, and they are as follows:
1) Only actively participating members of the primary Battletech thread are eligible to post in Memory Core. No other posting of any kind is allowed, and no “Memory Core Only” participation will be tolerated.
2) Those who are eligible to post will do so using the correct format
A. Memory Core is a collection of short stories, not a traditional interactive RP. Therefore, write as such
B. All entries will have a title ahead of the body of the post. This will be used as reference for future index entries. Titles will be formatted as follows:
- Code: Select all
Title of Story
C. Use the following header and footer format
Header
- Code: Select all
Entry Julian Date: 2841617.16
Entry Calendar Date: 25 December, 3067

Entry Subject: Doe, John, Rank, Unit
Begin Playback
Footer
- Code: Select all
Playback Ends.
D. In order to differentiate between the header post and the body of the story which will probably be told external analepsis for their characters, flashback sections will utilize the following header and footer:
Header
[
- Code: Select all
b]Secondary Entry Julian Date: (found here)
Secondary Entry Calendar Date: Day, Month, Year
Secondary Entry Subject:
Secondary Entry Location:
Begin Secondary Playback
Footer
- Code: Select all
End Secondary Playback
3) Because the stories themselves are not of the back-and forth variety, all stories that are written will be about personal primary or secondary characters. If there is another character not under the control of the player that is to be included, either SaintB or Northern Dominus must receive telegrams from both the primary writer and the author of the second character in question regarding the story and permission from both authors to use that character in a story. Failure to obtain such permission and send those telegrams will result in immediate suspension of Memory Core privileges
So a posting should look like the following.
Title of Story
