Not so much but meh. I'll make a post so we can move on soon. I'm catching up with all the stuff I missed yesterday.

Though it seems that, at least in here, there was only one post yesterday. :P.

Thanks. As you probably noticed, I intentionally had Nevyletta become lost incase you wanted to maybe add it into the story or something. Maybe it could be one of the places the group ends up going to find more clues as to the location of the Lost Chalice. After all, an Order as ancient and powerful as the Red Wave probably would have had at least some idea. Maybe. It could also turn into an elaborate red herring.

The point I'm trying to make is that you can use Nevyletta and the Red Wave if you want.

Malshan wrote:So what has happened in the week I've been gone?

I wrote a backstory for the Sworn Oath:

Olthar wrote:
In ages past, there was an Order that has long since ceased to exist: the Red Wave. It was one of the strongest Orders in the universe, and many current Orders draw origin from the Red Wave, a heritage that many proclaim with pride and honor, for the Red Wave was one of the most powerful and noble of all Orders. The Red Wave served as the paragon of what an Order should be, and it served as the cultural center of the universe for many centuries. Even other Orders respected the Red Wave, allowing the Red King to bring about an era of peace across the entire universe. Unfortunately, perfection is a fleeting thing that never lasts.

Four thousand years ago, the current Red King, Cyrus III suddenly and tragically died of an unknown disease (though some claim he was assassinated), leaving the throne without an heir. Immediately, four different factions rose up to try and claim power: The Augurs, a group of the Red Wave's most powerful mages; The Blue Alliance, a partnership between the Red Wave's two most powerful aristocrats and their personal forces; The True Heirs, an outcast family of nobles that claims lineage with the royal family; and The Red Army, the remains of the military that hadn't defected to one of the other factions. Each faction tried to seize control of the Order, claiming that they'd be best suited to rule and/or that they deserve to rule. As expected, the Red Wave was reduced to all-out civil war, and the entire universe erupted into chaos as many other Orders either lent aid to one of the factions or tried to seize Red Wave territory for themselves.

The war raged for almost five centuries, during which millions died and entire planets were laid to ruin. In the end, no one won, especially not after the Cathedral of the Red Wave, Nevyletta, was utterly destroyed with the planet sustaining so much damage as to be rendered uninhabitable. In the end, it was abandoned, and none still alive even remember where it was located. As for the factions, The Augurs were eventually converted into the Order of the Arcane Mark. The Blue Alliance split apart into the Order of the Ravaged Knife and the Order of Pericillion. The True Heirs were completely wiped out, though people still occasionally try and claim lineage to the Red King. Finally, the Red Army was eventually officially disbanded about four decades before the war was even over, however several battalions and companies ended up forming their own Orders including the Bloody Axe, the Noble Blade, and the Sworn Oath.

The Sworn Oath originally began as a company of elite, all-female knights from the Red Army who served as the personal soldiers of the Red King, the Red Guard. As they existed outside of the normal chain of command for the Red Army, tensions were rough between the two sides, and the leader of the army, General Harradrian, would often send the Red Guard on the most dangerous of missions against the strongest of foes, trying to discretely dispose of them or at least break their will so that they'd be easier to control.

Near the end of the war, the Red Guard was stationed on a small planet lying between the Order of the Arcane Mark and the capital of the Red Army, being ordered to stay there as meat shields. The intention was for the Red Guard to hold of the Arcane Mark long enough for the Red Army to recall its main force and establish a proper defense. However, when the army of the Arcane Mark showed up at the doorstep of the planet, the Red Guard refused to give up and refused to be beaten. They swore an oath to defend that planet no matter what the cost. The Battle of Tethyr became one of the most famous battles of the entire war as the Red Guard, numbering at about 600 knights, not only held off but defeated an entire army of 8,000, routing them and sending them running, though they did suffer many casualties. After that battle was over, the remnants of the Red Guard, finally fed up with the corruption of General Harradrian, left the Red Army, claiming Tethyr as their new home, the planet they earned through their sacrifices. They then established themselves as the Order of the Sworn Oath, so that none would ever forget the brave knights lost in that war.

In time, the Sworn Oath grew bigger, though at a slow pace as they refused to let anyone join the Order. The Knights of the Red Guard were not recruited; they were born. Only the daughters of the knights were allowed to become knights in the elite guard. They also forbade anyone from living on Tethyr who was not a knight of the Red Guard or their daughters, a policy which eventually lead to the harsh anti-male laws that the Order now possesses. To this day, not a single man has ever set foot on Tethyr since the Order was established. The women of the Sworn Oath also ended up developing a strong hatred for magic and magic users because of General Harradrian, a Magus Ensis, and the mages of the Arcane Mark, and one of the first laws ever passed was for magic to be forever banned on Tethyr.

In time, Tethyr was built into a powerful Cathedral for the Sworn Oath, and the Order also acquired other nearby planets for their domain, including Hystered, the unofficial "Planet of the Men," as most of the Sworn Oath's limited male population lives on that planet, serving as an effective slave class to the powerful female knights who rule it. It is still not a very big Order. However, every female citizen is a trained Knight of the Sworn Oath, and what they lack in quantity, they more than make up for in quality as even the weakest of squires carry on the heritage of the Red Guard being elite, highly-trained soldiers.

Well, I am also thinking about writing a bit about the religious beliefs of the Sworn Oath, though that'll have to wait until I get home in a week. I can't write out a several paragraph post on this shitty laptop.
