Several millenia ago, on times immemorial, our predecessors, the Humans, were driven away from their ancestral home, the holy realm of Iak'Thea by an inexorable force. They were forced to abandon the first and last Iak'Thean citadel, Cathedral Gaea, and scatter amongst the stars. And so, as nomads they lived, jumping from land to land, taking what they could, and spreading chaos in the universe with their world-shattering conflicts.
Then He, the God-Knight, Aradain, came, and showed Humans the errors of their ways. He showed them the correct path. He forced them to see the havoc they were causing, and gave them a choice: Instead of obliterating all that existed around them in their mad, blind fury, they could prove who deserved victory, not through force, but through skill. The God-Knight put an end to an era of destruction, and under His guidance, Humanity changed. They became stronger. They became wiser. They became better.
They became us.
But you already knew that.
Perhaps you also know that it is said that, in His last day as a mortal being, the God-Knight shed His own blood to atone for the sins of Humanity, and His blood was collected on an argent chalice. He then ascended, and the chalice was lost, or so the legend goes.
But, what if I told you that the Lost Chalice truly exists?
This is why I have called you. A new era is coming, and the Lost Chalice is of vital importance, not just to me or you, but to all of the Redemit.
Come to Cathedral Kaineroth on the seventh day of Galthin, during the seventh hour. Go to the Spiral Garden. My servant will meet you there. Embark on this quest, and if you succeed, young one, I promise you heaven itself.-Aurex Rasgaluz Pandracon I of the Phantom Blade
So this is my RP! You can check out a pre-thread discussion here. We will be playing as soldiers from different Orders allied with the Phantom Blade (Or members of this Order if you want) who have received this message and have accepted the mission. Now let's learn more about the world shall we?
The Redemit
The Redemit are to the Universe (Or what is known of it) what Humans are to Earth. There are parts of it not yet known, and not all of it is civilized territory, but it is unquestionable that the Redemit are the dominant species of the Known Universe.
The Redemit are nearly identical to Humans in appearance. However, they are superior in many ways, having evolved from them throughout their existence. For example, the longevity of Humans is nothing compared to that of the Redemit. The Redemit live about ten times as much as a normal Human would. They are also stronger, faster, more agile, have better reflexes, resistant to disease and natural regeneration than Humans.
So, in short, they are a race that has evolved in such way that they are basically Humans, but much better.
The Time
Time for the Redemit runs in a way similar to ours. Time has been standarized throughout the Known Universe, and a 'day' is still 24 hours. However, naturally, there are some differences. The Redemit have 'cycles' instead of weeks. Cycles are eleven days each, and the days of the cycle are named after the lost Cathedrals of Iak'Thea:
There are still months, but they have certain differences. One month is four cycles, which means that a month is 44 days. In a year, there are eight months, each named after the eight blades of the God-Knight Aradain:
The Cathedrals
The Cathedrals, which have been mentioned a few times already, are planetary citadels in which the Redemit live. These Cathedrals are called planetary for a reason: They're planets that have been colonized, terraformed and built upon to create fortified citadels in which they may live peacefully. A myriad of things protect them from the dangers of the Known Universe, including, but not limited to, their physical fortification, deflector shields, and, most importantly, enormous, vastly powerful cannons called the Eyes of Aradain.
The number of Cathedrals is uncertain, since it changes constantly, with some being abandoned and others being built by the different Orders.
The Orders
In this setting, there are no republics, kingdoms, etc. Instead, we have the Orders, organizations that protect and maintain peace and order in their territory. The number of Orders is uncertain, but it stands to reason that every Order must have at least one Cathedral under their control, to serve as their headquarters. There are, of course, exceptions. Entire Orders composed of allied Knight-Errants do exist, however uncommon. The command structure varies from Order to Order, as some are ruled by a council while others are ruled by a single person who holds power over the entirety of the Order. Sometimes, these Orders go to war with each other, whether to demonstrate superiority, gain territories, or something else. However, they honor the teachings of the God-Knight Aradain, keeping their battles away from the Cathedrals, instead battling in open space or in untamed territories.
Technology
The technology of the Redemit is incredibly advanced, to the point of being mind-boggling sometimes. However, all of this technology has only advanced in certain areas, while others have been abandoned altogether. A good example is transport, which has benefitted greatly from technology. Flying vehicles take people from one point in a Cathedral to another in a matter of minutes at most. The Chariots, composed of a large compartment for passengers which is pulled by a small and swift craft, ferry civilians from one Cathedral to another, crossing the black void of space. Knights and Mages, meanwhile, ride their Pegasii, flying personal vehicles with metallic wings that take them through the void, on which they joust, journey, fight and die. On the other hand, projectile and ranged weapons are, quite simply put, extinct.
More good examples are some things that have already been mentioned. The Cathedrals, for example, make great use of technology, and things such as timekeeping devices still exist. The Orders equip their soldiers with powerful tesselated armor and energy blades. Civilians who suffer accident during transport can survive in the void thanks to advanced bio-engineering.
But there is one other example, and perhaps the most important. But that is up to you to judge.
Magic
Magic is that example. Through extensive experimentation and bio-engineering, the Redemit managed to create incredibly complex, mind-boggling technology capable of manipulating a myriad of forces, and installed it into their very genes, thus giving them the potential for massive power. This massive power, this technology capable of manipulating the many forces of nature, is what is known as 'Magic'. As a result of their intensive experimentation and bio-engineering, the Redemit as a whole gained the power of Magic, and the potential for its use is latent in every Redemit in existence, though only through intensive training can this potential be unlocked.
Magic can manifest in a myriad of ways. Some Mages and Magus Ensis, for example, can manipulate different types of energy. The possibilities are nigh endless, but again, intensive training is required before one can wield the power of the Magic that the Redemit created after so long.
The Classes
The Knights: The Knights are the physical fighters of the Orders. They have superb physical condition, even by Redemit standards, and are immensely skilled in the art of swordfighting, as this is how they do battle with their enemies. They are equipped with energy swords, technological skeletons of actual swords that have the ability to project blades of energy to serve their purpose. Some of these swords possess AIs of their own, and most can be retrieved from their respective Hyperspace Storage Units by speaking a specific codeword, the sword's 'name'. They also bear armors that ressemble medieval knight armors, but with a more futuristic look. These armors are both incredibly strong and lighter than what you would think, and while they themselves cannot stop an energy sword, they project energy fields that counteract the blades of said swords, blocking them, protecting their wearer. The armors can also block some magic. These may manifest in different forms: Some act as 'tesselated' armor, spreading out from a small package and enveloping the user when needed, while others can be summoned much like the swords. Both the armors and the swords have a limited ammount of energy, but they can be recharged.
The Mages: Mages, as their name indicates, are those who have devoted themselves to the mastery of Magic. Through intensive training they have unlocked their magic potential as well as the energy necessary to make use of it. Despite what one would think, Mages do not bear weaker armor than their counterparts, the Knights, though sometimes they may draw upon the armor's energy instead of their own, thus depleting it quickly, and some Mage armors are subtly modified for the convenience of their wearers. In order to use Magic, a Mage must draw upon their own energy, thus, Mages have an incredible ammount of energy, though, as stated before, they may draw upon that of their armors as well. Mages do not utilize swords, instead relying on their Magic to combat the enemy. They can fight from up close as well as from afar, but usually Knights are better at the former, while Mages are better at the latter, thus Mages usually stay behind, though this is not always the case.
The Magus Ensis: The Magus Ensis are a mix between the two above classes. They use Knightly armor and swords, but they also have the power of Magic on their side. Naturally, they are not quite as good as a Knight in the art of swordfighting, nor are they as good as a Mage in the mastery of Magic, but they are adept at both. A great advantage of the Magus Ensis is that they can not only draw upon the energy of their armors, but also that of their swords, should the need arise. Their Magic, however, is not as strong as that of Mages, so doing this is unusual, except in desperate cases. They fight at an equal level both from afar and from up close.
