With the sudden change, Erik very nearly snarled- No, actually, fuck that. He did snarl. He then jumped out of the vehicle, now standing atop it. He drew his sword from it's scabbard and pocketed his broken glasses (He'd fix them later), before looking around and sniffing the air around him, trying to see if he could possibly detect where they were or what was around or what the hell had just happened.

He then saw a girl atop the vehicle, and blinked. That was dangerous. But then he gave a mental shrug, because he was up there too, and continued sniffing the air. His free hand went to his sabertooth dagger.

Jade nodded to the man, hearing the snarl - that's what brought him to her attention. "Good even... mornin... Hey." She smiled. "I didn't catch your name. I'm Jade." She noticed the broken glasses, and would have offered him a replacement, but she didn't carry glasses. Plus, she didn't know his prescription. It's times like these that she really wished she could carry scrolls and use them like the characters from her childhood games of Prisons and Psions.

Crawford looked outside, and shivered. "It, er, could be dangerous. Maybe some of the soldiers should go and check. I'll stay in here. Help repair anything if the vehicle has been damaged," he suggested. He turned to Mary, and smiled, trying to comfort her. "This trip might be a bit long. Would you like me to get you anything while we're stopped? Some water, maybe?"

Erik continued sniffing the air around him, trying to detect something, when he heard the woman addressing him. He turned around, and looked at her, hearing what she said, which brought a small frown to his face. He nodded at her. "Erik." He said, pointing at himself with his thumb. "Erik Newgate. Linguist. Nice to meet you." He said, and then looked up, frowning a bit more. "I could tell time, but can't see either sun, and glasses broken." He said, and then sighed.

Jade frowned, and looked at him. "Your language skills are oddly... misappropriated, for a linguist." She bit her lip, then coughed into her hand. "It's a facade, isn't it? Meant to distract people and make them slip up, make them spill information around the 'savage' so you can learn more, isn't it?" She smiled, and stepped closed, feet staying firmly anchored to the transport. "That's a neat trick. And as for the time, I don't think it applies in Hell... or at least it doesn't matter, at this point."

Erik simply blinked again when Jade spoke about his language skills being a facade, and then simply laughed.

"No." He finally said. "They're not exactly a facade. I know a linguist is supposed to have a good grasp on many languages, and I do have a good grasp on English. But my 'savage speech' as some people call it isn't actually a facade. I simply... Well, I grew up in a place where having to speak about ten different languages fluently was necessary to survive. And none of them had the horribly bizarre grammar rules and sentence structure of the English language. It's simply a bit... Disturbing, to put it that way, so I avoid speaking like that, even if some people take me for an illiterate. My work can speak for itself, I always say, and besides, I can communicate fairly well anyway." He explained. "I'm not saying that it could be useful for making people spill information, no, but that is certainly not the primary reason for why I speak the way I speak." He stated.

"As for time... No, it not work like it work in Earth. But I grow up here. I could tell time if I could see either sun."

Jade nodded. "I guess that makes sense." She smiled wider. "Actually... I have an idea. Do you know how your glasses work? Are you nearsighted, or far?" She had only the faintest idea how this would work... but a lens made of force should be able to deflect a photon even a tiniest bit, which would duplicate the effect of a glass lens, and make a pair of pseudo-glasses for Erik to use, at least so long as he didn't need them to move very quickly or irrationally. As she thought, she began to shape them, making a simple circle that would have to do for both eyes, being as large as the savage's face. Circles were simple, after all.

"Hmm?" Erik asked, not quite sure what Jade needed to know it for. But he figured that she knew what she was doing... Or going to do, and that there was no harm in telling her. So, with a mental shrug, he answered.

"Nearsighted. Why question?" He asked. However, not long after he asked, he could see the effects of what Jade was doing... Whatever the hell it was that she was doing. He had no idea, to be quite honest, but it was working... To a degree.

"No, no, little less focus. But doing good work." He commented.

"I'm fairly sure... that with enough tuning... I can replicate your glasses. Temporarily, at least. For a temporal reference." She grinned at her little almost-homophonic joke. Actually, that wasn't even a joke. It was just using a pair of words with similar roots. She continued making small adjustments, trying to focus in on what would work for Erik. "Hmm... is that better?" she asked, having adjusted once more.

Nude East Ireland wrote:Crawford did manage to hear Mary's rambling, and it brought a smile to his face. "Indeed, you're correct. Very much so, in fact." He paused. "You know... We could do a study together! Yes, yes, it's perfect. With our combined knowledge we could do anything! We'll explore the unexplored regions and histories of this barren world. We can have articles in every newspaper in the world. Textbooks on the subjects, novels, essays... Not to mention that I'd love to work with someone like you. You're quite beautiful, Ms. Mary." He smiled, trying to be charming, but for all he knew about relationships, it failed. He couldn't release any Demonic pheromones, either. He stared out the window for a moment, but turned back to Mary. "We should make an appointment to meet once this documentary is over," he suggested.

Mary blushed slightly.

"Thank you, Mr. Crawford. I'd be interested in doing a study after this, actually. That would be excellent."

Inside, she was pleased, but, at the same time, slightly irritated. She wanted to believe that Crawford actually thought that about her, but she wasn't sure, and she was horribly tempted to search inside his mind to see what he actually thought about her. She had done that before, and when people were lying...it had hurt quite a bit, actually. She didn't want to go in. It was slightly awful, actually - she wanted to take people at their word, but she was able to go beyond that, and others couldn't. Mentally, she shrugged. It wasn't important. Crawford seemed nice enough.

"We should make an appointment. I'd be interested in that."

Nude East Ireland wrote:Crawford looked outside, and shivered. "It, er, could be dangerous. Maybe some of the soldiers should go and check. I'll stay in here. Mary nodded, slightly concerned about the black cloud. This was...well, judging from the reactions of the soldiers, this wasn't planned. She could sense the general mood they gave off - they weren't preoccupied on hiding it - and it was obvious that they were nervous.

"That would be nice, Crawford. I'd appreciate that, but you don't have to. While you do that, I think I'll go check on what's going on with the communications. You could come along if you'd like, but I'm not sure if you could help with that. I'm not sure if I can, actually. I primarily work with biology and neurology. Not the computers. I might be able to do something, though."

Crawford walked over to some rations in a compartment, because why wouldn't the vehicle have some? He couldn't think of a logical reason, but this is Elfen High. He got a bottle of water, as well as some energy bars, in case Mary was hungry. She's really beautiful. Smart, too. I wonder if she thinks I'm... strange. I am, but it's always nice to know. He shrugged. He walked over towards Mary, as she was doing... whatever she was doing. He handed her a bottle of water, and smiled.

"I got some food, in case you were hungry." He looked around, examining the area. "I don't think I've been here before. Not too many familiar landscapes."

Erik chuckled, less due to the joke (If one could even call it that) being funny and more because it wasn't. He then continued paying attention at... Well, stuff in front of him. Though he was used to having the reassuring weight of his glasses over his nose, this at least solved the problem of his nearsightedness.

"Yes, perfect." He said, and then turned around. "Thank a lot, Jade." He said, smiling at her, before looking around. "Think going out and explore is good idea?" He asked afterwards. "Soldiers not doing much. Scientists and crew not doing much either." He commented.

"Seems like fun. Or at least some kind of entertainment. Guess we better tell some of the scientists and crew, though... They'd probably get annoyed if we snuck off on our own. Although that would be fun... it'd give those stuck-to-order soldiers something to think about, too, instead of obsessing over the other women down there. You'd think none of them ever had a girlfriend..."

So saying, she hopped off the now-stopped APC, and looked back up at Erik. "You coming?"

Erik nodded, and jumped off of the vehicle as well, walking over to Jade. "I coming. Not worry." He said, smiling, before looking back at the vehicle and pointing. "Only woman left Mary. Poor Mary. But she smart. She can manage." He said, referring to her comment about the soldiers obsessing over the women in there. He then simply turned around and kicked a stone, before crouching down and sticking his finger in the dirt, getting some on it, which he then proceeded to sniff. After that he simply got it off his finger with his thumb.

"Never been here. Dirt unfamiliar." He commented.

"They're all down. All of them. This is...Crawford, if what I think happened just happened, then we might be in a bit of trouble." she said nervously, tapping the monitor. "These things have a range of at least, oh, I don't know, fifty miles? We don't have a satellite up, so we can't get communications on a planet-wide scale, but we do have some basic ones at the ISSR base, and..."

She looked around, slightly scared. She wasn't used to being away from the base. The furthest she had ever gone out was about a mile - and that was for a research trip.

"...I think we've been teleported." she finished. Looking up, she noticed that everybody was leaving.

"We should go." she said to Crawford, and she pulled him along with her, out of the vehicle.

Jade frowned, her shields rising around her with the visual effect of a hexagon being pressed into the ground around her. "Well... that's okay." She broke into a smile. "This is how we can tell where we're going..." she mumbled, trailing a force-blade behind her and carving an indent into the ground as they walked, two inches wide and four deep.

"Good idea!" Erik said, congratulating Jade, and then took deep breath through his nose, before slowly releasing the air. "And if strange thing come," He said, and then tapped the bridge of his nose twice with his index finger. "Will know." He said proudly, with a smile, before looking at the indent on the ground.

It was then that he noticed the hexagon shape. Curious about what that was, he started poking her shields.

"A- alright," Crawford replied. He was quite frightened. He had been around Hell, but not this part of it. He grabbed Mary's hand, to comfort both her and himself. "I haven't seen anything like this area," he commented. "As the savage said, it's quite unfamiliar. This is some kind of... backside. Zeus' backside. A good name, I suppose. But perhaps natives live in this area, and they could give us some information. Well, if we can communicate. I'm sure the savage, er, Mr. Erik, can communicate, being a linguist and all.

He thought about grabbing his gun, to be safe, but then he remembered that he couldn't even operate a switchblade, let alone fire a high-powered handgun. So, he decided to let it sit in the holster. He did open an energy bar, and began to take a few bites. "This will make for an interesting novel," he said.

It's the same way I'm leaving the trail, and also how I made the 'glasses' for you to look through." She shrugged. "It's a specialized form of self-replicating force to deter physical or energy-based threats." She smiled, and then waited for his response.

Erik was a bit confused afterwards, when Jade contracted the shields. But when she explained that they were her power, things were clearer. Well, just a little, but still. After she explained he simply crossed his arms and stood thoughtful for a moment.

"So... Force-fields?" He said. "Interesting." He added afterwards. "I have magic too. But my magic sort of lame. Nothing special." He said, and then proceeded to flash-step, coming to stand on the other side of Jade. "Useful for fight and survive, but nothing special." He commented, before giving a small shrug.

"Not matter." He said afterwards. "Let go!" He finished, and started walking off into the distance, with Jade hopefully following suite. His nose was alert and ready to inform him of anything approaching.

"Oh, thanks." she said, somewhat absentmindedly, and she took the water. "Save the energy bars for later. I'm not hungry right now." she continued, and then she went back to fiddling with the devices. After a few seconds, she stood up, glaring at the machines.

"If we get out of this alive." Mary griped, pulling on her gloves. The white labcoat that she wore was thick, but, really, in Hell, it didn't provide very much protection against demons, the weather, or even the wildlife. She looked at Crawford.

"So...we have no idea where we are? That's okay. We just need to find civilization of some sort, and make our way to...the closest and safest place." she said, her voice trailing off. Where would they go? They could be thousands of miles away from the ISSR. They could be on the other side of the planet. Perhaps Heavensgate, or...she didn't know. They would have to find where they were.

"Well," she continued, looking up at the sky, "I think it's night right now. That would explain the darkness. It doesn't seem to be too cold, and, oddly enough, we can still see...well, I can. We're not at the poles of Hell. If we were, we'd have all frozen to death. If it's night, and still rather warm, we're likely closer to the equator of Hell. We're not at the actual equator, though, or we'd be fried. The equator, from what I know about it, is an inhospitable wasteland."

She looked at Crawford, hoping for his input.

"Maybe we should just follow the others." she stated bluntly. "I don't know what to do right now, and, really, I'm not feeling too well, so...let's just follow them."

"I think that'd be fine. And I agree, with, well, everything," Crawford added. He smiled, and held Mary's hand a little tighter. "But we should be very careful. There's no telling what we might encounter. But I have very high hopes, so don't you worry. We'll be back at the base by tomorrow, and then we'll have some food and discuss combining our research." He smiled, and walked alongside Mary, looking out towards the horizon. It was somewhat beautiful, the warm, nighttime area. If they weren't in a hurry, Crawford might set up a camp and explore the area with time. However, it was best that he help Mary get back to civilization.

Yuzuki - in raccoon form - slowly climbed out from inside the tank, then swiftly transformed into humanoid form and put on some clothes. "That was an incredibly cramped vehicle. I could have built one twice as large on the inside as that thing."

She jumped off and walked around a bit, stretching her legs. "So what part of Hell is this? I don't recognize it from the last time I was here..."

Gopher, meanwhile, recorded Crawford and Mary's little flirtation, while the other cameramen followed Erik and Jade outside to get some footage of the Hell landscape. Gopher was less concerned with the documentary at this point, so much as the characters. Characters made a good movie - all of this straight documentaries that actually focus on their subject are boring as fuck. An entertaining documentary follows characters; the educational part is just justification for some reality TV shit. March of the Penguins? Informative, but dull. That one documentary about the baby monkey orphan Gopher's writer can't remember the name of? Stupid, but endearing.

At any rate, he followed Crawford and Mary out of the tank, accidentally recording Yuzuki's little transformation and ensuing nakedness.

"Are all the employees of Elfen High so subtle and dignified?" he inquired, deadpan.
"Then I was fertilized and grew wise;
From a word to a word I was led to a word,
From a work to a work I was led to a work."

I enjoy meta-humor and self-deprecation. Annoying, right?

Goodbye.

"That's actually a really nice trick..." Jade murmured. She then saw Yuzuki climb out, nodded, and followed him. As she followed, her eyes constantly roamed the horizon; in to the foreground, away to the mountains in the background, She saw nothing, nothing but the ashy red ground of Hell, and it was beginning to annoy her. She wanted to ask why nothing interesting happened, but... that would just be tempting fate.
