"If I must tear you apart, Michael, I will!" Lucifer roared, charging toward his younger brother. Michael barely ducked Lucifer's punch and backed away instead of fighting further.
"Why, brother? Why would you continue this?" he pleaded.
"The time for debate has long since ended, Michael." Lucifer said, his tone steely. "Uriel's tyranny must come to an end. Tyranny in all places must end and where better to start than here?" he walked slowly toward his brother. "You know what I saw down there? Respect. Admiration. And fear. These are all emotions humans feel about the angels. I don't understand why they would feel anything but the last, and I want to change this. And if you stand in my way another minute I will end you."
Michael stood up, pulling out his sword. "Brother, I do not wish to fight you. I don't wish to continue this, but you cannot keep destroying our home-"
"ARCHANGEL MICHAEL, YOU WILL LISTEN TO ME!" Lucifer roared. "You WILL listen to my words. It is your choice if you abide by them, but you WILL listen. I have discovered nothing but contempt and hatred for this place as I spent time among humanity. Perhaps you will say humanity has corrupted me. But you know something? We are nothing compared to them. The cruelty they can commit is a hundred times greater than anything we can imagine, but...so is their love. And their peace and their happiness. And I want that here, in Heaven. Look at Uriel on his throne. He fears any change. Eventually, the humans will surpass us, unless we work with them and learn. We can be protectors of the Earth instead of trying to be dictators of it." he pleaded with Michael.
Michael looked at Lucifer. "I'm sorry, brother. What you say...there is sense to it. But I cannot abide by it."
"Why, brother? Do you fear me?" Lucifer asked, throwing away his sword and moving toward Michael. "You are my brother, Michael. What I have had to do in this war is extreme, but it was for the best. It was all for the best. There is not a moment when I wonder if something could have been changed. But this can be a tipping point, brother. We can change things. We can make things better."
"Brother...you're advocating the end of all we know. All of our order."
"I am advocating a change. The change we all need if we're going to eventually survive. Any sacrifice is worth it. You need to understand, Michael, if you would just open your mind...all you have to do is be unafraid."
Michael stared at his sword. "For the first time, in a long time...I am."
Lucifer smiled.
Then saw the sword in his chest. "Ah. You made your choice." he said calmly and quietly. "I'm sorry, brother. I tried."
"I'm sorry, Lucy." Michael whispered softly.
"No, brother. No you're not. Not yet." Lucifer said quietly. "Please. Let me die where I wish to. Let me die on Earth."
Michael buried Lucifer under the ground in Earth and left an unmarked grave.
A few days later, he came to check the coffin. The coffin which he found empty.
