It's settled then. Jestrion must die and Eskandar must command a fleet of some kind. Think of the comic relief. :p

Perhaps we could have people taken captive? We've got a decent cast of characters on both sides, and plenty of famous knights to kill off or throw in prison once the battles start. I wouldn't object to a few of my characters being killed or captured a bit later on in the thread. If anything, when one considers how pathetic the defenses of Sathara are, it's almost inevitable that I'll be losing people left and right if an invasion occurs. Of course, I'll still have the legendary military prowess of Eskandar Rhynarion at my side. He might beg you really nicely not to hurt his lovely gardens and (not so) loyal subjects if you get to close to the city of Cyron. And, if you do attack, he might even wave a white flag threateningly. Trifle with him at your own peril, mortals.

I'm going to bring back Galvion no earlier than that, that's true. But I'll probably wait until the loyalists are losing the war with Galvion's return marking the war's balance returning to even.

If Galvion returns Jestrion will have no problem handing over his crown. Jestrion does not want to be King anyways and he loves his brother. They would fight together in a touching story of brotherly love. I also haven't ruled out Jestrion dying (sorry!).

There are already captured characters- Galvion, Elendil, Sandrine Thorn...but yes, it'd be interesting to see more get captured.

I wanted to see Artanis run into the woods stark naked while raving that he was a butterfly from Fantasia. Can we at least wait until after that has happened to bring Galvion back? I truly think this plotline has potential. Artanis can become the Nude Knight, tilting against windmills, rescuing mules from their oppressive liege lords, saving salmon in destress by hauling them ashore... The possibilities are endless. We need a new kind of hero, I say. One who isn't afraid to be unconventional, who isn't afraid to profess his madness to a mad world, one who isn't so obsessed with vanities such as clothing. And that hero is Ser Artanis the Naked Knight.

*cut to epic trailer music with slow motion scenes*

Unless he dies in battle, I don't expect him to be killed. The Thorns (or anybody else) would have to lose their wits before they harmed such a valuable hostage. I doubt Charlia would be foolish enough to harm her own hostages either. It would destroy any possibility of peace, and it might anger a few of the other noble houses. More likely, I would expect his freedom to be traded for a peace agreement or something of the like. The same goes for Sandrine.

Damak Var wrote:There are already captured characters- Galvion, Elendil, Sandrine Thorn...but yes, it'd be interesting to see more get captured.

I missed Sandrine Thorn. I think it would be interesting to have almost any of my characters captured. They'd either make really amusing or really poor captives, and the responses of my free characters would also be worth writing about, especially since they value family so highly. Just wondering about what might happen chills the blood in a pleasant way. So many opportunities to turn into convoluted plots!

Any how, I'm working to introduce the Brightlance as I type this post.

So, we have a character who engages in incest and homosexual relations with her double? Excellent. Is there anything else I should know about Elendil? Also, what would Sigmund Freud say about all this bizarre sexual tension?

Merodin wrote:<.< If you touch my Jestrion, I'll kill you slowly and painfully, Evraim.

I don't plan on killing Jestrion. He'd make a lovely hostage though. And, if Stockholm Syndrome blossoms, I might marry him to Diana in order to elevate House Rhynarion to truly glorious heights. Of course, there's still the problem of convincing Diana to wed a complete stranger for no other reason that because his regal tush might one day be supported by an especially nice chair...

Speaking as a self-professed fan girl, I don't think Eskandar would have the appeal of somebody like Antonio Banderas or Ashton Kutcher. I do admire the proposals relating to explosions and fire though. This will be a compelling film for all the generations. Perhaps we could throw in romance between Kaspar, Artanis, Elendil, Sera, and, oddly enough, Drogodar.

I'm certain you can still inject creativity into it. For example, I'm gradually developing Vuzurgan Eskandar's children and trying desperately to petition other individuals involved in the thread to embrace my characters as a form of background. Additionally, you could always have one character change as the story progresses. Perhaps they start off crazed for power and then realize that they would rather explore and see the world instead. Or perhaps they begin like a certain Freudian nightmare whom I shall not mention again lest the Paragon devour me and then become a priestess (or priest, or grand high poobah, or whatever). Seriously, the Church could suddenly call a random Crusade against Akmal or Alanthi. And then a bunch of people could abandon the war in the North to answer the call of the Paragon.

No hard feelings, Mero. :p

I think civil war would be better because it forces other players to engage each other in battle. Instead of an NPC character controlled by me. Good luck capturing Jestrion. :p

Elendil being a woman of very strange preferences altogether. Jestrion's death as the beginning to an epic new saga wherein Artanis, struck by madness at the death of his proposed lover, adopts the mask of the Naked Knight, performing various "valiant" deeds and roving the countryside in search of adventure with his trusty companions and lovers, Ser Kaspar the Brightlance and Ser Drogodar Darksmile. The latter may actually be a name the Sathar attach to the commander of Vorzov's military because I like the sound. Epic, no? You know, the usual.

:p

A crusade would essentially result in a civil war between civilized people who don't engage in incest and those who do, though I said that almost entirely in jest and to elbow Mero lightly in the ribs. I don't need luck to capture Jestrion. I'll send Diana across the lines to beat him senseless with a dead salmon and then whisk him away to Cyron. There Vuzurgan Eskandar will toture him by obligating the Prince to attend every feast and sample every course, while fawning over him and telling him how happy he's made an old man by honoring his hospitality with the blood of Kings. It'll be legitimate.

Galvion and Charlia have unrecognized but mutual feelings for each other. Though Philippa thinks he's dead. Yes, the unconventional relationships are not as prevalent as you'd believe.

Such wisdom. It'll open the way for Shakespearian humor.

Damak Var wrote:Brightlance? Does he light the tip of it on fire?

No. Ser Kaspar Rhynarion earned the name via a sarcastic reference to the modest quality of his weapons in relation to most of the Derrian Lords. His armor consists mostly of partially rusted mail. Likewise, he often prefers not to wear the gaudy cloaks and heraldic capes worn by higher aristocrats in tourneys and on the battlefield. He does keep his lance polished and sharp though. The Brightlance is also famed for being a just man - to some extent. His weapons shine with the light of the Paragon. So, his enemies call him by the title as an insult, while his friends use it to honor him.

This means that, while the Sathar will commence the conflict with exceptional horses and well trained men, they'll have to acquire plate armor, quality steel, and weapons throughout the course of any campaign. I expect they might petition Lord Kazanowski to assist in their endeavors, though the Sathar may prove too proud for that approach. I'm not certain at the moment.

Pretty much. That's why he plans to annihilate Lord Balthazar's armies and ransom high born knights and weapons in exchange for gold and silver. It's slightly more complex than that, as Mikey and I have discussed, but plunder is definitely one of the motivations of the Sathar, regardless of with whom they side. Disciplined and dignified plundering. They're no common thieves. And the Brightlance is an honorable man.

That's one of the main reasons people would go to war in the middle ages, for ransoms. Why would you annihilate Balthazar's armies if they are going to be your allies?

I said Kaspar plans on annihilating Balthazar's armies. While I know that the Rhynarions will eventually align themselves with Kurzov and Kursturm, my characters, with the exception of Remus and his advisors, have no suspicions regarding the motivations of their liege lord. Why wouldn't he want to defeat the traitors? It's quite likely that the deployment of soldiers into Kursturm has reassured even the most cynical of House Rhynarion's supporters on who possesses the loyalty of House Kazanowski. The Crown, naturally. Why else would they march against the city of Sturmwall with its weakened garrisons if not to reclaim it for the rightful King?

Tomorrow probably. I'm working on a post for two role-plays at once, while balancing real life as well. I've close to one thousand words written thus far, but Kaspar is tumbling down memory lane. I still need to have him discuss a few things with his squire, speak with a number of his captains, and then his army will begin moving towards Sturmwall. I plan for that to take two posts, counting the one on which I'm working. Mean while, I'll develop Remus and Diana a little more. I think the Rolling Thunder will have to confront the Boy King by himself. Drogodar and his armies are still at least a week away at the last post. I plan to catch up with them two days before they reach Sturmwall.
