Echoes Of The Black Sea Ep.1: An Express Of The Future

Postby Zarkenis Ultima » Mon Nov 05, 2012 4:00 pm

NOTE: Please do not post here unless you have been accepted in the Out Of Character Thread.

In this day, in this age, we live in times of peace. Conflict is a concept not unheard of in our society, but the dreadful, destructive event we have come to know as war is a thing of the past. Men no longer fight their brothers as a method to quell their avarice or fulfill a promise of revenge, soldiers no longer die in the fields for their leaders' petty conflicts of interest and lands are no longer torn apart by machines of destruction, manned by drones, fueled by blind faith and driven by selfishness and desire.

Now, instead of destroying itself, Mankind has united under a single banner, spread away from its homeworld and colonized many of the worlds that float around in the black sea, inhabiting them and turning them into their homes.

However, great perils approach, and on the day they arrive, we must stand together...

April 15th, 238 A.U..
Starfall Plaza, Hesnet

Those who have been born in this glorious Third Era know that Mankind, united under the banner of the Human Government, has colonized many worlds, as well as many things about the worlds themselves. So, naturally, they would know what Hesnet, the Planet of Lights, is most famous for. Certainly, the frequent, stunning meteor showers, as well as the jaw-dropping, enthralling night sky have garnered this planet much attention. But, without a doubt, what has permanently placed Hesnet among the most popular planets under the care of the H.G. is the Starfall Festival, celebrated once every four years on the fifteenth day of April, under a sky adorned by shooting stars that accompany the setting sun of the dusk as it descends, soon followed by the transit of one of the largest comets found, Arill, once Hesnet's star crowns the sky no more. Throughout all of this, concerts, dances, contests and all sorts of spectacles and cultural activities take place in the Starfall Plaza below. It was a perfect occasion for all sorts of people to attend: From Shaarans looking to sell their products or expand their horizons, to Gliesans seeking to share the Hesnettish bliss, to merchant Earthlings flying around, and perhaps even the oddballs looking for a partner, a purpose in life, or just a good deal.

And it just so happened that the current year, 238 After Unification, was the year Arill would journey through Hesnet's skies once again, after having been away for approximately 1460 days. Preparations were being made incessantly, Hesnet's local government and cultural organizations sparing no effort in making sure that that year's festival was just as good, if not much better, than those of the previous years. The festival, aside from being a virtually race-wide festivity, and a much revered one at that, was a reminder of a simpler past. Stalls and stages were set up with wood and cloth. Merchants exhibited their merchandise on small shops and stalls. The people wore outfits befitting the people of a distant past. Though security was in fact strong, and used all of the H.G.'s technology to make sure no incident came to pass, the rest of the people celebrated a festivity that reminded them of their roots, of a time when Humanity lived solely on Earth.

From afar, standing atop a hill, two figures watched the preparations, their faces obscured by hoods, both figures wearing red cloaks (Neither of those ever went out of style, you see, since people who appreciated some privacy, as well as smartasses who wanted to look like the former, would often wear them to conceal their identities). Once they had watched enough, the two figures exchanged a simultaneous nod and then turned around, leaving the Hesnettish, blissfully unaware that there had been a presence on the hill below the horizon, to continue their preparations.

The fifteenth of April of year 238 would be remembered, that much was certain.

Artan had decided to follow a group of star-hopping tourists, working with them for a small price so that he could travel along, viewing the systems. But today, today was special. He had heard of the Hesnet Starfall Festival, and wanted to see it; how lucky that the tourists dropped by - obviously planned, now that he thought about it - just in time for it.

He flipped up his winter clothing's hood, becoming a shrouded figure in mottled white and gray, then stepped out of the main Gate area, following the flow of people all the way through the festival, observing the stalls filled with bright colors and shining metals, occasionally pausing to look closer at an object or a trinket. Eventually, he found something to occupy himself with while he waited for the real show to begin, purchasing it for a small handful of coins.

He stepped away from the stall and onto the grassy plaza, finding an empty spot of grass - half-under a tree, but still better than laying back on the cement pathway - and pulled out the concentric rings, spinning them around and inside one another, waiting. As they moved, he would occasionally tap one of the seven inner rings with his right hand, changing the pattern of light that sparkled through them; each ring was spinning quickly enough it would cause an interference pattern as the light passed through it, making a fine, intricate, complex pattern on the grass as he sat there, supporting it from his left hand.

Alexandra Belle
Azora

Alex had been wandering the streets of the floating city for a month or so, not sure what she intended to do, she had enough money to last for another month or two more since she sold most of her belongings. Her parents really expected her to do something? They'd regret that expectation before the end she suspected. Life hadn't held much pleasure for her so far and she didn't think that would change, not that it had been a bad life, it just wasn't something she particularly cared about.

She had heard about the festival on Hesnet, maybe she could go there? She had the money, now where was the desire. She was ascending the stairs to her shared apartment, she prefered using her legs, when she heard the voices in the hall. Voices she recognized.

"Please, if you see her let us know," her father's voice urged, he sounded worried, that was nice. She heard the door slide closed and footsteps in the hall getting quieter, she could have gone to them, but she didn't. I hear Hesnet is nice this time of year, she thought before sitting down on the stairs.

James Silva
Hesnet

Silva nodded quietly and politely to the guards at the gate, flashing them his ID, fake of course, and stepping into Hesnet proper. Concealed beneath his coat, for it was mildly cool and it was very old earth themed, were three weapons. All of which were low tech. Very low tech. Low tech enough to avoid the rigorous scans and such that the HG employed. One was an M1911A1 .45. It was a projectile weapon. Of all things. Who in their right mind would expect anyone to carry around such an outdated piece of technology. Of course, that was the point. If you didn't expect to see something, you didn't. First rule of stealth and first rule of smuggling. The second weapon was a knife. A ceramic knife, not even made of metal. Again, crude. However, both of these weapons could get the job done, especially with the thin black silencer in James' pocket.

The third weapon was James' Stigma. The Stigma of Blood. Those with his particular Stigma went into one of three professions. Doctor, Soldier, or Assassin. Thankfully, through his adoptive father's clever use of a gate crash and a few threatening notes, James Silva was dead, and had been for a very long time. The man who walked through the portal, by all accounts of both facial scanners, RFID Tag scanners, and even a DNA test, was Jim Bond. Vain? Perhaps. But it was an archaic reference that most people wouldn't get, which suited Silva just fine.

Of course he was here looking for work. Why wouldn't he be. The festival provided the perfect cover. Easy for one person to slip through the cracks, and just as easy to resurface again, just an innocent man minding his own business. A wealth man who preferred to remain anonymous had contacted Silva, asking him pricing and timing for a hit during the festival. Silva had sent the messenger back with the message that he only conducted business face to face. Thus, his visit here. Silva moved quietly but unobtrusively through the crowds, seeming enraptured by the joy of it all, but in reality he was mentally calculating escape routes, choke points, and the probability of ambush.

Starfall Plaza, Hesnet, around noon (Planetary time)

Though it was still fairly early and many stalls were being set up, already many visitors from other areas of Hesnet, as well as other planets, were coming out of the Plaza's Gate Access and heading into the festival area. People of all kinds, from Shaarans to Azorites, were very nearly overloading the Gates, forcing the security personnel to limit the flow of visitors, making it slower, but still steady, causing a few to grow impatient but otherwise not bothering anyone much.

However, despite the variety of people that arrived at the Plaza for the Starfall Festival, most, including those who had been to one of those festivals before, did not quite expect to see a tall figure, entirely clad in a very heavy beige-colored fur jacket and wearing a large white scarf, to make an appearance and then simply move further into Hesnet as if nothing was happening, despite the relatively warm weather. The person, whose red locks were partly concealed by the scarf, moved swiftly and eyed the stalls, finally finding an artifact interesting enough and purchasing it.

The artifact in question was a miniature tridimensional hexagon, with white writings on the sides, that changed the language and the contents of the text itself every time the hexagon was turned. The stranger continued appraising the object in question, sitting down next to a tree with a relatively loud thud, not quite noticing the man that was lying nearby, playing with concentric rings.

Northwestern Sky Platform, Azora, around dusk (Planetary time)

Soon footsteps began echoing through the hallway of the apartment building once again, and soon the source became visible. A person was descending through the stairway, a person completely covered by a cloak and its corresponding hood, both completely white - A rarity in Azora, since different colors were usually preferred, and for some reason dust was abundant in some places anyway. The figure continued descending the stairs, minding his own business, until he passed next to the girl sitting on the stairs. At that moment, it appeared as if he had felt a strange sensation. He stopped on his tracks, and then looked down at the girl. After a few moments, he spoke.

"You look familiar, child. Why are you here alone?" He asked, voice calm and deep, but with a tangible tinge of curiosity.

Artan looked over, the rings slowly continuing in their own paths as he looked over at the hexahedron (yes, a three-dimensional six-faced object is a hexahedron) the other man held. He tilted his head at it, and then - under the pretense of shifting to be more comfortable, looked over at the stranger more carefully. He noted the heavy clothing, near-identical to the heavier things he wore back at home, and then a few outstanding red strands of hair.

"Pardon me..?" he said quietly. "That's an interesting artifact; could I theorize that you're a Pilarnirian as well?" he asked. "Your clothing seems to match it." Artan did not care to be polite; he didn't think about the fact that it was possibly intrusive to simply ask. He simply sat there, waiting for an answer, letting the rings spin and slow by friction.

Northwestern Sky Platform, Azora, around dusk (Planetary time)

Alex had been sitting there pondering the nature of the universe, or just drifting off, when the stranger approached, speaking to her. She looked up at him, noting his suspiciously white cloak and the stark contrast it provided to her darker jacket, tight pants, and boots. Hearing his comment she couldn't imagine ever seeing this man before in her life and not remembering it. "Me?" she asked, as if there was anyone else he could be talking to. "No particular reason," she lied.

The stranger noticed for the first time the man that had been lying on the grass nearby, noticing with some interest the object the man held in his hand, the rings that continued moving on their own accord. The stranger, too, studied the other person present, noticing the clothing, a bit lighter in comparison, but still quite heavy.

When Artan asked his question, the stranger simply looked at him. At this point, Artan would likely notice that the stranger's eyes seemed somewhat off. One had an iris with a perfectly normal shade of green, a bright one. However, the other eye in its entirety was a dull gray, ressembling the color of steel. However, the stranger seemed to feel comfortable with this, and pulled down the scarf, as if to speak more clearly.

"Gliese." The stranger finally replied, in a neutral, hoarse-sounding voice. "I come from Dark Gliese."

The man in the white cloak seemed immersed in thought for a few moments before speaking again. "Child, even if I have no Stigma of Truth inside of me, I have had many, many years to learn to discern when people are telling the truth and when people are telling lies. Your case is clearly the former. However, I will not pry." He stated. "It simply struck me as odd to find you alone. It is rare to find such in this Planet of the Sky, more so in this precise day when even the streets of these floating cities are empty due to the festival." He said, and then stood silently for a moment, before abruptly changing topics.

"Your ability is important. You could use it to help others. Have you thought about it?"

Artan nodded, doing his damndest to prevent himself from flinching as he held eye contact with the man. "I'm afraid I don't know anything about Gliese, much less 'dark' Gliese. Could you... educate me? Ah! Manners! I'm Artan, from Pilarnir." He smiled at the man, extending a hand to shake - his right, of course, his left was still holding the spinning gyroscopic ring-structure. He mentally called up all he knew about Gliese... well... shit, that's nothing. He knew exactly nothing about most of the planets. What? He had slacked off in interplanetary geography.

The stranger continued listening to what Artan said, staring into the man's eyes, not breaking eye contact and seemingly blinking very little as well. When Artan was done speaking, the stranger shook Artan's hand, returning the gesture properly, and then pulled back the hand, remaining silent for a few moments before finally speaking.

"Arda." The stranger finally said, in the same voice as before, and after a while completed it with a last name. "Arda Elsic."

Afterwards, the stranger answered Artan's questions. "Gliese doesn't rotate like Earth or the other planets. One part is always exposed to the sun and the other is dark. We can only live in the middle, with one side being too cold and the other too hot, and there's always torrential rains and strong winds. I come from a place close to the dark side, but I've lived in both sides." The person explained. "You?"

"Nice to meet you." Artan said with a smile. "I come from Pilarnir. Tiny planet, like Sol's Mercury, but it's so far from the star of the system that it's covered in ice. Have to wear thick clothing all the time while you're outside, or you freeze. Wonderful formations, though; the melting ice sculpted by the harsh winds is beautiful when the light reflects off of it. It's why I love rainbows and mirrors and prisms so much, and why I bought this-" he gestured to the rings in his hand- "It reminds me of home."

He smiled, and then pointed at the hexahedron. "Why'd you pick that up, of all things? I'm skeptical that anyone could ever know all of those languages..."

Arda continued listening to Artan as the latter carefully explained that he came from Pilarnir, and detailed the wonders of said planet, which far outweighed the inconvenience of having to wear heavy clothing outside. It was not an inconvenient Arda was unfamiliar with, what with the heavy beige fur jacket and white scarf and all.

"I've heard about that." Arda replied afterwards, and then proceeded to answer Artan's questions once again, bringing up the black hexahedron as if to better explain. "I guess you could say I'm looking for a souvenir. For my collection. I need something from every world. Something unique preferably." Arda explained and then pointed at the hexahedron. "This isn't good enough, though. I actually came here in hopes of getting a Starfall Shard." Arda concluded, and then looked down at the hexahedron, before letting the hand that held it drop.

"Oh, and nice to meet you too, I guess."

I'd be happy to help you get a shard from the Starfall if you'd like; all I ask for is passage, room, and board." He smiled at the other man. For some reason he expected that the man would like having a companion along on his quest, or his collecting mission, or whatever-it-was. He was still watching the hexahedron, watching the small script change and twist as he did, enthralled by the artifact nearly as much as his own, which he averted his gaze to after a moment, realizing it may have been impolite to stare. "Also, if you've never been, I can suggest wonderful places to look in on Pilarnir; a few of them I even discovered myself."

He smiled back up at Arda - more of a grin, really. He was looking forwards to it already, it sounded like such fun; travelling the systems, searching back and forth for interesting items. Hell, this man could be him from the future; or could be if he believed in time travel. He didn't, of course. Such frivolity was just immature, there was no way to travel through time short of ripping a hole in the fabric of space-time, and he was fairly sure the HG would be completely against that.

A tall, thin woman stepped out of the Hesnettish Gate and into Hesnet, wearing a plain, loose, white cotton blouse, and loose black pants made of a more synthetic-looking material, on her feet leather boots that went halfway up her thigh. A faint, almost genuine smile flitted across her face as she gaped at the wonders to be had on Hesnet, a bit dazed by the fact that it was noon; back on her home island on Shaara it was dark.
Once the shock was over she began walking slowly among the people and the stalls, looking around, not only in wonderment, but in wariness. She wasn't used to so many people all at once; in fact, she guessed, her entire island probably had a population a minute fraction of the size of this crowd. She could see many people, obviously from many different planets, among them Shaarans; however, these obviously came from other islands, as they seemed... different, somehow.
She kept on walking through the crowd, now wondering aloud, "Oh, Françoise, are you sure this was a good idea?" A few moments passed. Then: "Of course it was." She nodded to herself, satisfied.

Life was- well, not good, but tolerable at least. Given the state of others, Tristan Rivanil VII found himself rather well off- not many in this day and age could claim to own starships. Pacing the elegant bridge of his vessel, the Rivadir Averynid, he contemplated the next several hours. Having taken the Gate from Pilarnir, he was now guiding the ship in to land on Hesnet with a cargo of mineral ore that remained after his last stop- such commodities were not in high demand on Pilarnir at the time. A it were, however, his main reason for traveling the gulf of space to the small world that now lay below him was the Starfall Festival, an event Tristan had heard about but never in actuality attended.

And I might not, even now, he thought ruefully. Yjis meteor shower can only bode il for my ship. If one little rock hits us now. . . He preferred no to let thoughts of losing the Rivadir enter his mind, as it was not only his pride and joy, but also his livelihood. Besides, since he was aboard at the moment, he would die too; in short, nothing good could come of being hit by a meteor. Turning to his exec and lifelong friend, Early Taklanik, he asked, "How long until the landing procedures commence?"
The short, fair-haired man replied in an almost laconic voice, the result of a brain injury some years back, when neither really knew how to land a starship. Since then, both had been much more gracious to the pilots who helped bring the vessel in, as their refusal to listen when they were young and impetuous had cost Early dearly.
"Only half an hour, Tris."
"Excellent," replied the captain. "I'm looking forwards to the atmosphere at the Festival." Early laughed appreciatively at the pun.

Tristan gazed back at where the Rivadir sat in a holding dock near the outskirts of the area, long cigar-like shape almost indistinguishable from the warehouses among which she rested. As he walked, the workmen and hired hands who had offered their labor for passage to Hesnet were hopefully unloading the cargo while dock-workers refueled the massive engines for the departure some days later. The others were probably off in the taverns, losing their well-earned wages over girls and cheap beer. Tristan sighed. He, Early, and several of the other "officers", if they could be called such, were headed to the Festival for an afternoon of relaxing intellectual stimulation- well, fine, that was pushing it- but at least entertainment of a more wholesome sort.

The air was warm and comfortable, and all were glad to have their feet on firm ground once more. Nearing the personal Gates, Tristan could see other people in a long stream, emerging and departing in the blink of an eye. He took a mental breath and plunged himself into the flow of humanity alongside a thin islander- most likely from Shaara.

Corvo stepped out of the Gate and onto Hesnet, glancing around curiously. He had never been off of Azora before, but this year he had decided to come to the festival, just to see it, even if he couldn't afford to buy anything. He pulled his cloak/jacket thing around him in a slightly self-conscious manner, as if he wasn't all that in to such big crowds. He noticed security seemed a bit slow, but he understood why, seeing as there were a lot of people here, and they did have to make sure no one had a bomb or something.

After he managed to get to security, he started looking around, just taking everything in and enjoying the atmosphere of the place. He browsed at a couple of the shops, though he knew he couldn't but anything. He still liked to just see the stuff. Specially the stuff that people made by hand or at home, rather then stuff big corporations made. He noticed a couple of people sitting on the grass talking about artifacts or something, but quickly moved his attention to something else. He was taking in everything today, rather then being his normal, more oblivious, self. He wanted to remember this, since he wouldn't likely be coming back here. That was the thing about photographic memory, it was easy to remember things in detail. He had a technique to never forget stuff, too. It was sort of a place in his mind where he could just store the 'pictures' he had taken with his photographic memory.

He let out a very quiet sigh and continued to browse the shops, frowning slightly. The thought about wanting to remember this place, because he probably wouldn't be coming back here had put dark thoughts into his head. Thoughts of something he had, and still was, considering doing. Not today, though, today he would enjoy.
Times are looking grim these days~

Starfall Plaza, Hesnet, around noon (Planetary time)

Arda looked up from the hexahedron and at Artan, raising both eyebrows for a moment before speaking. "You talk like you think I own a ship. I don't." The person clarified, observing Artan for several seconds. Arda then stood up and looked down at the man, observing him intently with both the natural and unnatural eyes, as if about to speak, but breaking into a short coughing fit instead. After that, Arda pulled the scarf back up, and finally spoke.

"I don't mind a companion. I can pay you enough to satisfy your needs. If you show me the secrets of Pilarnir, that'd be nice." Arda said through the scarf, the voice coming out radically different, going from a hoarse, slightly off sound, to a totally neutral voice.

Afterwards, the stranger thrust the hexahedron towards Artan and nodded at it, as if offering it to him, while at the same time asking a completely unrelated question. "Do you know what a Starfall Shard is?"

Elsewhere, around the many stalls and stores set up in the Plaza (The place was rather crowded at this point, not unlike middle Second Era marketplaces), a short man, with a beard similar to early Second Era mytological figure 'Zeus', wearing a light brown robe and a matching hat - An appropiately bizarre outfit for a bizarre man - was tending to his stall. On it were many gadgets and artifacts, all of slightly atypical but otherwise top-notch craftsmanship, made for no practical means (Whether or not practical applications were found for them was another matter altogether), only to entertain.

As he walked around, setting things up and making sure that his exhibits were well placed, seemingly struggling due to his height, the tiny merchant's brown eyes caught sight of a person, quite obviously a tourist, that seemed to be alone. When the stranger passed close to the stall, the midget leaped from behind the counter and in front of the man.

"You look down, buddy. Purchase something to brighten up your day!" He said to Corvo.

"I wouldn't expect you to... they're expensive. And that sounds fine; I'm not accustomed to personal ships anyways." Artan smiled softly at the man, lightly taking the hexahedron - cautious, in case the man was not implying what Artan thought he was. "What one is? I... hm. I would presume that they are fragments of the asteroids and comets passing through the atmosphere that were large enough to strike the ground."

He paused, and frowned, looking at the man intently. "However... the way you say that makes me wonder if it's not, if it's a metaphor, or misnomer, or whatever-you-call-it." He left the hexahedron in his right hand, bringing his left up and cupping his chin, tapping his fingers against his lips as he hummed quietly, thinking. "I can't hypothesize what else it could be, though."

Northwestern Sky Platform, Azora, around dusk (Planetary time)

For some reason she didn't question his knowledge, simply thinking about the nature of his question, the answer wasn't hard to discern but there were things beyond answers which one could percieve. "No," she murmured in response. "I suppose in the long run I haven't." Who was this person though? How did he know of her abilities? These were questions that could not be answered without further information, information she wasn't likely to get without asking. She didn't like asking questions.

Arda nodded at him once he had taken the hexahedron and then crossed arms, looking up at the sky. "Not just expensive. You need high-ranking mercantile clearance, or Level 5 H.G. clearance or higher." The stranger explained, still gazing at the sun of Hesnet. Comparing the night sky of Hesnet to that of other planets was like comparing Third Era Earth's night sky to Second Era Earth's. There was simply no comparison, and Arda knew that. The stranger was looking forward to gaze upon that sky once again, but knew that it would take a while.

"As for the Starfall Shard, you're right. Sometimes, rocks fall from the sky on the festival. There's AG and AA generators in place to stop any that could be a threat, but most lose too much mass on re-entry. If they don't, someone from the crowd can get it." The Gliesan explained. "It's a long time until that, though. If it even happens."

The man in the white cloak simply stood there, wordlessly listening to the young woman's words as she spoke, and as usual, he didn't speak for several seconds, as if he was pondering if the meaning of his words was appropiate. However, after a few moments of tranquil silence, he spoke again.

"I see." He said, giving the anticlimatic impression that that was it. But then he continued. "Most people with your gift go down that path in life. Medics. Surgeons. With your ability, you could do much good. You still have time to consider it. Just a suggestion from a relatively old man." He stated, chuckling lightly at the last part, but only for a moment.

Artan frowned. "I'm wondering, then." He turned towards the man, slipping both the hexahedron and his ring-construct back into pockets in his jacket, and continued, his voice dropping to a whisper. "If they're so rare, then we need to be ready; I must ask a candid question because of this. Are you one of those 15% that posses one of the Stigma Genes? Rather, one of the smaller percentage that could help us hunt down or collect the Starfall shard when it comes down?"

While listening to the Pilarnian, Arda continued gazing at the sky, seemingly unfazed by the intensity of the sun's light. The stranger's head shook upon hearing Artan's question, signifying denial. "No, I'm not. I don't have a Stigma." Arda stated, voice neutral as it was whenever it weent through the scarf. "But don't worry. I don't need a Stigma." The Gliesan said, and though the voice's tone was neutral, it was accompanied by a nod that reassured the stranger's words, clearly expressing confidence, even if nothing else did. "We just have to be watchful. But it'll be a while until that."

Artan nodded, considering, and then smiled. "I'll trust your observation, then. Would you like to go get something to eat before the Festival? It'll be at least another few hours until dusk..." he nodded. "I'll even pay, as a sign of good faith in our new alliance. Or partnership. Grouping." He cut himself off, noting that he was rambling. He already couldn't wait, this was going to be so much fun. Or at least, interesting and worth it; he was excited to begin this quest - what else would the other worlds hold?

Corvo was looking at the stall with the short dude setting things up on it. He thought the stuff there was cool, but of course he couldn't afford anything. When the guy leaped in front of him, he stopped short, hoping this wasn't one of those merchants that would nag and nag to get you to buy something.

"I don't have any money, sorry. You've got cool stuff, though," He said, looking down at the short dude. He was about to continue on his way when he hesitated slightly. He recalled seeing the guy having issues with setting some stuff up, because of his height. "Um....I-if you want, I could help you finish setting up, though," He sounded like he wasn't quite sure how to offer help without implying the guy was short, and he didn't want to imply that, because it could come off rude. His gaze traveled back to the stall. If there was anywhere the short guy couldn't reach, he could reach it easily, as he himself was quite tall. He frowned ever so slightly at a thought that flashed across his mind, but he quickly discarded it.

Françoise glanced over at Tristan sharply as he seemingly manifested himself out of thin air - though of course, she knew that in reality he had just emerged from somewhere previously unseen by her. She stared at him for a few seconds, walking all the while - and tripped, falling into him. "Putain de merde!" she cried ('cause all my characters speak either French or Japanese for no apparent reason :p ) as she crashed into the man. A few people nearby skirted around them, but the flow of people continued.
As she fell her blouse lifted a small bit, revealing the gun tucked into the back of her pants, if that was of notice to anyone.
