Rise of Civilization (Open, IC)

Postby Photana » Tue Oct 30, 2012 2:32 pm

The year is 4000 BC. Humanity is starting to settle down, after expanding and dominating the globe. Tribes and Clans have dominated as the only form of organization thus far, but after Agriculture, government arrives. Along with government, writing, and the discovery of metals have revelutionized human life. From now on, history can begin. But what course it will take is anyone's guess.

AH, PMT, some FT.

Your test scores indicate that you are an open-minded ultra-progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with a journalist. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a generally optimistic attitude towards humanity in general.
Your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a liberal.
To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a considerate idealistic egalitarian with many strong convictions.

RA, Mut, Nut, Khnum, Ptah, Nephthys, Nekhbet, Sobek, Sekhmet, Sokar, Selket, Reshpu, Wadjet, Anubis, Anukis, Seshmu, Meshket, Hemsut, Tefnut, Heket, Maftet, RA!

The Priests intoned, their combined voices echoing off the walls of the Temple at Luxur. The Temple gleamed with murals and hieroglyphs depicting the Gods and great seated stone idols, taller then three men stand on each other's shoulders and wider then any two men across, depicting them lined the north wall.

Hail thee! Our Protectors, Our Guides, Our Mothers, Our Fathers, Your Children give unto you!
We Seek your Guidance!
We seek your Blessings!
We are but children clinging to your legs!
Ra-Horakhty! God of the Morning and Evening Sun! Lord of all that Walks and Crawls on this Realm!
Accept this as proof that we love you and live for your command!

The High Priest Imhotep, scrubbed clean and wearing his traditional linen half robe, leopard skins, and a nemes headdress, made a grand sweeping gesture with his hands. His fellow priests, clothed in linen half robes and wearing upon their heads masks representing the various deities, stepped out as one as muscular guards hauled in baskets of fruit and bread, caskets of wine, and a large white bull.

The High Priest spoke, his voice a loud rich baritone,

"Thank you for gifting us Light and Life
We hold you in our heart in reverence
May we always remember we are children of the Sun God
May our heart and mind be joined with yours
May we be protected from all harms through your greatness and kindness
And so it is!"

The guards pushed all the fruit and bread together in a heap in the center of the temple. The Priests, in a practiced well-coordinated way, lit torches and set the pile alight. The flames engulfed the food offering, sending a hazy smoke to all corners of the Temple.

The High Priest let the food offering burn for a little bit before continuing.

“Exalted art thou on thy throne,
O Osiris! Thou hast heard fair things,
O Osiris! Thy strength is vigorous,
O Osiris! Thy head is fastened on thy body,
O Osiris! Thy neck is made firm,
O Osiris! Thy heart is glad,
O Osiris! Thy speech is made effective,
O Osiris! Thy princess rejoice
Thou art established the Bull in Amentet.
Thy son Horus hath ascended
thy throne, and all life is with him.
Millions of years minister unto him,
and millions of years hold him in fear.
The company of the Gods are his servants,
and they hold him in fear.
The god Tem, the Governor,
the only One among the gods,
hath spoken, and his word passeth not away!

As before the Priests stepped forth as one and portioned the drink offering before the various Idols.

The High Priest waited until they were done and continued again

Hail to You, O Lord of Waters,
Life and Praise to You, Lord Sobek!
Benevolent and Punitive One,
Protector of the Justified and Repairer of Evil,
Healer, He Who Made the Herbage Green,
Hunter, He Who with Swift Violence Destroys the Wicked Utterly,
I prostrate myself at Your shrine,
O Lord of the Fayyūm.
You Who are strong of body, fierce and noble,
I approach You with humility and an honest heart,
That I might immerse myself in Your purifying waters
And submit myself to Your Mercy.
Cleanse my mind of weakness,
Purge my body of disease,
Empty my heart of pain.
Dua Sobek!

The bull was pulled by the guards into the center of the room where the ashes of the Food offering were still smoldering. One of the Priests, wearing a Mask representing Sobek, pulled a dagger of a most elaborate ornamentation out from his half robe and plunged the dagger into the beast's neck, severing the carotrid artery. Bellowing, the bull struggled and jerked around but the huge guards held firm. Slowly the bull collapsed and bled out, his blood mixing with the ashes on the floor.

The High Priest looked out upon the sight. He turned to the statue of Ra and kowtowed before it. The various Priests turned and did likewise before their Gods.

My Last post was fail...

The people of Prezelly were once again enjoying their lifestyle. The slaves were working on the farms and on the roads. The gaurds were building the walls around the tribal cities. And the common people were attending the church. Inside, there was the sound of harmonic chanting of a song, worhiping the gods of Prez.
Feranal, god of harvest, Kalumn, god of smithing and war, Kakan, god of the world and its offspring, Deriin, god of the river and the hunt, and Jarian, god of the dream land and underworld.

In each of the prezellan tribes they prayed to different gods. Here in the triabe of Kakana, they worshiped two. Feanal and Kakan. With these beliefs. The Kakana tribe is the most agricultural rich tribe, and therefore the richest. For, in Prezelly to be get what you want, you must trade somthing other for it. In the market area, people would bring crops and other values in exchange for tools or fur blankets. The Kakana tribe has no weaponry however, so the Beral tribe who worship Kalumn, trade manpower for food. They would send slaves in from nieghboring tribes they conquer and they would work. The Weranan tribe who worship Deriin, would trade with them their fish and furs from the river they call Nermu, or the great. And the final tribe, the Geren who worship Jarian, trade with their knowledge of herbs and medicine.

With this system of trade the Prezellan tribes have been able to band together and prosper.

Drums beat as the morning sun rises over Western Anatolia on the spinning planet Earth, or as the natives call it, Arda. From the crude stone dwellings of the Amerali people lilting wais rise in the cool morning air to greet the dawn, the sounds of the Amerali welcoming the return of the sun from its sojourn in the underworld. Ere long the bronze-skinned imperial subjects streamed from their various dwellings, some heading to the imperial fields to labor for the Ameral himself, others working in other functions to provide for themselves and the rest of the Imperium. All the land that the Amerali possessed by the force of their arms and the virtue of numbers was under the High Emperor's rule, and the Imperial Word ruled all as far as the eye could see from his dominion atop a high hill in the foothills of what his people had termed the Blue Mountains.

Gassam Ameral looked out from his dwelling, a large mud-brick tower in the heart of the small town, and watched with keen eyes as his subjects labored below him. Far away in the distance, near the edges of vision, but still deep within his borders, the sovereign could make out the farming villages teeming with life towards the horizon. His capital city, Araulia, the Golden City, had nearly a thousand souls within its borders, and housed the small militia-army his domain could support, but most of his subjects were far more concerned with the laborious task of coaxing life from the soil of his immortal dominion. He frowned. The people were growing numerous, and soon it would be difficult to feed his subjects on the land the Imperium had taken for its own. That said, there were but small barbaric tribes to his west, and the Imperium had divine duty from He Above to take all for its own.

Yesterday some of his quarry workers had come across strange colors in the rocks, and brought the odd stones to his overseers. Though he knew not what the rocks meant, some innovative bakers had heated the stones over their ovens and extracted a curious liquid rock from the larger Teras stones, the name his mages and seers had given the black rock that intervened in their efforts to quarry granite at times. The Ameral knew not what this discovery meant, but in his mind He Above had given the Imperium a great gift.

He turned his face to the fiery sun in the east, sure the future held a great destiny for the Amerali.

Today in the long house IN the tribe of Weranan, the Representatives have gathered to discuss the growing issue of the Thren, or barbarians in english.

They are debating their stance on weather they will defend, or conquer.
In such the tribes are seperated as:
Defend: Kakana, Geren

Conquer:Beral,Weranan
They had a split vote and so they brought the issue to the people. Each Representative would go back to thier tribe and hold a demacratic vote. They would then bring back their numbers to Weranan and decide.
Defend : Kakana,225 Geren, 160 Beral, 10 Weranan 310

Conquer: Kakana, 215 Geren, 40 Beral, 490 Weranan 300
And so they decided to allow the Beral tribe to conquer all the land they want for the next 40 seasons. Then there would be a vote on how to split the land. They would only be allowed do if they send the slaves they command to help collect food in Kakana and Weranan, and to help build roads and walls for the other tribes.

Andes Mountains,Macchu Pichu

(OOC:If this appears to be too Godmoddy, don't hesistate to tell me,I'm not used to RP with PT,as I mentioned)

As the sun rises once more,as always, people begin their daily rituals of prayer and worship to the gods, before carrying on with their day

(Obviously my civilization is indigenous, and they prefer to stick to their ancestral beliefs, despite slowly moving forward into secularism)

It was a typical morning for commoners, get out of bed,do their prayers and worships, eat breakfast, chat with family, and head to work

Culturally, the males were the head of the household, but recently, females have begun to establish power in the long-Conservative government

Not until about 25 years ago has the church finally released its grip of the government, but up until now,the church is seriously regretting that decision

The people have long forgotten their ancient ways of magic and mystics

Blood sacrifices, though still legal, are now highly restricted to a rare occassion, worshiping the gods is no longer mandatory, and the ancient Airan religion of Aura Secunda(Translation:Second Wind.Though the Airan spoken langauge is similar to that of Latin and Italian, their written langauge strongly resembles but yet intensively differentiates that of Simplified Chinese and Egyptian Hieroglypics)

The Airan Religion is similar to that of Christianity, but with a mix of Hindu ideals

According to ancient depictions, there were only two gods,a sun god and moon god,but there were countless prophets and martyrs

Both gods have the exact equal amount of power, and both are benevolent and merciful,as well as holy

The only difference being the sun god watches over the people and the animals and nature during the day

The moon god watches over the people animals nature etc during the night

The rise and fall of the sun signifies that the gods are switching spots

According to ancient texts, the Airan believed in an afterlife

Depending on how good or bad the person was in life,he or she may get a second chance and get reincarnated as either a guiding spirit (guardian angel) or a mortal once more

If the person was generally bad and sour,he or she may get reincarnated as a Faria (Demon) or animal (usually ugly/bloodthirsty ones)

At the end of their second life,if the person was good in their second life, but bad in their first, they are sent to a purgatory-type state, same with vice versa, where the gods will decide their fate (Heaven,Hell,or Reincarnation)

If a person was good for both lives, they are sent to a place called Caulum (Heaven) for the rest of eternity, with all the other good souls

If the person was bad for both lives, they are sent to a place called Inferna (Hell)

In all cases,a person's each and every one of their deeds are counted, good or bad

That way,if the person was good overall, they will be punished for their bad deeds first, and if a person was bad overall, they would be rewarded for their good deeds first

The time they spend in their reward or punishment depends on how good or bad the deed was,and how it affected others

This only happens if the person has not confessed their Pecutms (Sins)

Worshiping the gods was never mandatory, according to ancient accounts, but at least aknowledging their existence was

This explains why many people are so paranoid of atheists and paganists

According to the ancient beliefs, all it takes is one prayer, just one prayer or worship session, then you're done for life, unless you want to do more,so you may strengthen your relationship with the gods and maybe even have all your sins, even the unconfessed ones,if you or your family prays enough for you

In overall, the Airan religion is a general combination of Christian,Hindu,Jewish,Agnostic,Indigenous, and other Paganist ideals, there's much more to this religion than explained

Now,the government is becoming more and more secular

As the commoners go about their morning life, those in power plot of what to do next

The Reignier (Emperor, but now,it's more like a President) stands in front of a board with several wooden cut figures (similar to a chess board)

He moves the pieces about, from one end to the other, ocassionally taking other pieces out

The board looks like an exact replica of the Ragniar (Kingdom)

He suddenly drops some of the pieces, and calls for his generals

"I want you to gather the most elite of your soldiers,we are going to plan some raids to the other tribes"

Meanwhile, though the politically powerful have their hands full, the economically powerful seem to have a lot of free time on their hands

Once a week or so,a secret society, consisting of the tribe's richest residents, gathers in large and decorative building

The building is off limits to the public

In order to prove their membership,a member must use secret hand gestures when at the door, and do what the poor call "flaunting their wealth"

The secret society is believed to be in charge of those poorer than them's fate

They may either help them or worsen their problems, depending on what the society sees fit in recent events

The society is considered to be neutral, they neither represent the people or the government, nor the church

The society is well known for donating a very large amount of wealth to all those in desperate need

The society is also well known for making others disappear,or skip town for unknown reasons...

Many consider it wise not to anger,or charm the society

Many also consider it wise not to acknowledge the society's existance unless the society comes to you for whatever reason

Narmar, King of the Morning and Evening Star, Great Protector of Upper and Lower Egypt, and Strong Bull of His Mother Isis, looked upon his great city and smiled. His was the center of the world, the first thing to arise in the first occasion. All in time would bow before it's wisdom.

Namar took his heka-scepter and motioned at the crowd of courtiers and servants that always followed him. "Summoned the Governors! Tell them to bring their war tallies!"

Machu Picchu,Outskirts

On the outskirts of Machu Picchu, there lies nothing but fields and a handful of farms.Upon closer examination,it can be seen that most of the field is not really a grass field, but actually a Maize and Potato breeding ground, with a bit of Beans and Squash.Aside from these farms, there are also a couple barns, many of whom house mainly Goats,Turkeys,Llamas and Alpacas,Dogs, and Tapirs

There is also a small military barracks, and a small training center right outside the city, touching the walls

This is where the Regnier has met with his soldiers

He speaks in his langauge

"Men,As soldiers, you have one single, sole duty, responsibility, and that duty, that responsibility,is what many of you know, and understand deeply. To protect not only my life, not only your commander's life, but the lives of each and every citizen in our nation.I have called you here today because, from what I have been told, you are the best of the best that we have. Now,just because I am telling you that you are the best, does not mean I am rewarding you,in fact, you may say I'm punishing you for what I'm about to say,but there's one thing you don't really understand. You may be good, but other soldiers may not,and many so-called soldiers need help, whether it be Dagger training,Spear lunging,Arrow shooting,or Axe swinging,we need to ensure they become better at these sort of things. The truth is,though the public may think of us as gods of war and fully armed fully trained elites,we have a relatively puny army, and we can't train for shit,it seems as if,the more we train, the crappier we get.I mean,we barely even defended ourselves from that massive raid a few months back, and the tribe raiding us had a smaller army!Which is why I had our current trainers replaced, with you taking their place!"

The soldiers sighed in frustration

"Now,Now,I know you're all mad, frustrated, enraged even, but don't worry,I know in the long run, this will pay off.For the good of our army, and for the good of our people,I hereby order you all to train our military!By order of the Airan High Council!"

And with this,he left

When they were sure he,as well as his advisors, were gone, the soldiers all started to gossip about the Regnier, and badmouthing him. They respected him very much, but with the orders he gave them, that may change, the Airan military is very well known for not being very...elite.Though the Airan have a very large and feared army,in the battlefield, most of the soldiers simply squirm and flee for cover, while others sort of give...rather weak blows (Like slowly poking a mysterious object,in fear, and flinching back, immediately upon touching the object, not knowing what it might do...)Few actually fight bravely, and even fewer fight mercilessly.Though the Airan are weak, the phrase "Strength in numbers" certainly applies to them. One example being the Cholique Raid that occurred a few months back.A neighboring tribe, whom which the Airan usually have friendly relations with, had attempted to conquer the Airan after several diplomatic rifts. The neighboring tribe had been previously involved with another stint with a different tribe, and when they found out that the Airan had secretly been funding the other tribe, all hell broke loose. At first it started with a fued between the rulers of the tribes, and then it finished with an ultimate battle on the outskirts of the Airan city of Machu Picchu. After a very long and bloody battle on cloudy and lightly rainy day,the Airan had won and successfully defended from the raid. The enemy tribe surrendered, and now they both have increasingly cold relations. The Airan are not like other tribes, they have a high reputation for being very merciful and forgiving of any trespasses...so long as they win...or they think they won...their current leader has quite the opposite...he seems to be the only one in the entire kingdom who still holds a grudge against the tribe that raided them earlier...and is secretly planning a raid to conquer them in revenge. He's disguising it as a sort of conquest...at the moment,he is rallying the soldiers for a raid at another tribe, and the public knows, but what the public does not know is that he is masterminding a plan for a conquest they will not expect...

In the lands known simply as Persia, the nomadic hunters and warriors began to settle down in the fertile lands nearby the many rivers of the area and start building farms to supply them with food, rather than unsustainable hunting. Nomads began building homes in villages and working on farms, soon the hunting way of life was dimming and a new age of agriculture was ensuing. The new farms and the farmers who ran them, however, would not know that soon (due to the vast amounts of crops being grown) the 'land of plenty' around the rivers would soon turn to desert, and the food run out.

However, for the meantime Persia is prospering. A powerful family of former hunters has declared the vast region of farms and villages the Persian Empire, with them as the God Kings of the land mass. All the tribes and peoples of the Persian land were more than willing to be united under the one rulers, largely due to religion. The majority of the Persian peoples practiced Zoroastrianism (a real religion, I founded it a bit sooner than real life, a few 1000 years but it was still founded in the BC's.), and the monarchs did to, thus giving them a common ground. The God King of the present, Cyrus, is focused on prosperity of the Persians rather than expansion. He ordered many temples built, statues of Zoroaster built all across the land, fertile rivers to have farms grown on, and for villages to be built. Persia loved Cyrus, and all he did, and thus the nickname 'Cyrus the Great' came to be.

However, domestic issues were not the only thing on Cyrus's mind. He was also concerned that outside tribes might destroy Persia and Zoroastrianism, and thus he organised the nomadic hunters of the region and had them form a militia known as the Nomadic Warriors, and wherever they would go they would defend the people there against invasions from outside tribes and kingdoms. Although they numbered but a hundred warriors, they were well trained from their years of hunting and willing to die for Persia. They also vowed never to fight to conquest, but rather to defend fellow Persians.
