For the number of you who don't know what Magic is, it's a trading card game.
Well, not true, actually. it's THE trading card game. The original. And it's so much more.
MTG is a multiverse, a massive, fleshed out, rich multiverse with a LOT of detail and lore. Seriously, there is a lot of lore.
The basic structure of MTG's sotry is centred around Planes, which are the different worlds, and Planeswalkers, demi-god like beings that can "walk" between the worlds. I say beings, because literally any thinking creature can become a Planeswalker. One of the oldest characters is a Planswalking golem, while the character that basically everyone considers the Big Bad is a badass 40000 year old dragon who can kill you by thinking.
However, there's an issue. MTG is a difficult thing to roleplay. I've tried it once (amongst some friends of mine) and it did not end well. It requires a story structure, a very VERY rigid one. And that's something that doesn't really lend itself very well to roleplaying, since no matter what the characters do, the story normally ends up going in one direction. Not to mention it's a tall order to get a group of RPers to stay in a set of threads for a long time. Super Hero High is the best example I can think of. I'm the only original left over from the 2009-2010 version still in the current threads. (COME BACK FUS. I MISS YOU BRO T_T)
Bleh. It's 2:30am, explains why I'm thinking about this.
Anyway, the best idea I can come up with is RPing a group of original planeswalkers (NO CANON PLANESWALKERS. NO. ZIP. NADA. ZERO.) travelling between the planes and plotting agaisnt/ with eachother in some fucked up form of Gambit Pileup. Every new thread = Another Plane.
NOW TALK, MY CHILDREN.
