Psychotic Dictatorship

Postby Agadar » Fri Oct 12, 2012 8:37 am

Idiots. I'm surrounded by idiots.

Steven Leicester was leaning with his elbows on the bar, a quarter-filled whiskey glass in one hand. He took a sip, savoring the burning feeling the whiskey left behind in his throat as it went down. The noise of pointless bantering entered his left ear, and he turned his head to look at his fellow recruits. They were dull, so incredibly dull. Outcasts, vagabonds, wannabe-tough guys, trigger happy lunatics, violent vigilantes: there was not a single man or woman in this crowd whom Steven was fond of. To him, they were all idiots. Were these the people he was going to do battle against the supervillians with?

He quickly finished his drink, putting the empty glass down and standing up straight. After laying down some cash for the barkeep, he turned around and began to walk, but not to his assigned chamber: he was finding his way towards Sarah's office. He had a thing or two to ask about just what the hell BAN was planning on doing with this band of incompetent fools.

(OOC: Sorry for minor control of Steven, just trying to reduce the number of posts required for a simple action. If you want me to break it up so we can do this "properly", then fine.)

When Steven reached Sarah's office, he was confronted by a locked door and a small button marked "alert button." Pressing the button yielded a disembodied voice, which said "The sergeant is not here. She is currently in location: Library."

Sarah was indeed in the library, having picked up a good book and decided to read it. She was aware that someone had pressed the alert button, but carried on reading as though nothing had happened.

Steven sighed angrily, but was interested by Sarah's presence in the library: she hadn't exactly seemed like a reader to him. Perhaps she had a greater intellect than he had credited her for. Having been told where the library was during the earlier tour, he quickly found his way there, and found Sarah casually reading a book. The young man immediately walked up to her.

"Sergeant Calthar," he began, "Could I have a word with you?"

Sarah put a bookmark in her book, then dropped it on the table and stood up.

"You could. What do you wish to speak about?"

Star picked up her bag and followed taking the rubix cube out and continuing to play with it without looking at it and she stayed silent the whole time, just listening. Once she Tour had ended she smiled and left the group and scampered off to a spot she had seen earlier in the library and quickly skimmed over the books and pulled one out and looked through it quickly, smiled and sat on the floor in a corner crosslegged and read. She wasn't much for social people and began reading.

Steven briefly eyed the girl sitting in the corner of the library, reading a book crosslegged. "Why are we here?" he asked Sarah. "These people you've gathered, most of them don't even have what it takes to join the bloody police force, let alone an organization supposedly aimed at defeating supervillians."

"If you want to know, you'll have to take it up with higher command. However, we do have a martial arts expert, a master sniper and a young lady with genius IQ among our ranks. I would suggest that you do not automatically assume that we are ill-equipped to deal with any situation."

"And what are they going to do against the supervillians?" Steven asked. His voice had an angry ring to it. "Have that martial artist of yours wrestle them to the ground? Most have more than enough firepower to kill him before he even manages to touch them. Or perhaps you're planning on having that master sniper of yours shoot them to death? Supervillians with skins of steel, lightning speed, impenetrable barriers, or any combination of those? It is utterly futile." He was really getting worked up now. "So then what's left? Have that genius girl think them to death? Just what the hell are we wasting our time here for?"

Xi Feng, who had finally sobered up and bit -- mostly because he didn't feel like finding the bar and was out of Sake -- walked into the room that Steven and Sarah were in, the smell of strong liquor on his breath as usual. Standing there for a moment with a quizzical look dancing across his heavy brows, he chuckled and shook his head, leaning against the door frame as he watched the two of them.

"Confucius say fuck you," he said with a strong Northern Chinese accent, shaking his head, "and that is no understatement. We brought here for good reason, reason that you should be smart enough to no' question. Separate, we may lack strength. But if work together, our skill will overcome."

"How about putting an armour-peircing round through an iron-man's head? What about holding off a super-strength by actually using technique? How about using intelligence to rig a supervillain's base to blow up?"

She watched the drunk man walk in. "Indeed, we also have team work. Ever heard of united we stand? Yes, they may be stronger than us, but if we work together then we can beat them."

She was on the verge of shouting, but to do so in a library would probably not be her greatest idea.

"Now, have you any more ridiculous questions to ask?"

" Hey lady " Daniel said offended too " I may not be able to fly or solve a 5 digit operation in 3 second, but I'm a Neapolitan. We invented the art of living day by day. In my town who works eats and who doesn't eat and drinks, we have nothing and we laugh like kings. AND IT WORKS. " He said with a serious face " Not even the greatest super-minds of our time are still capable to get how. So believe me, normal people can be good as superheroes if people put trust in them. "

The librarian looked up. "If you're going to argue, could you do it elsewhere, please?"

Sarah rolled her eyes at the influx of people into the library. "I thought you lot were going to the bar, anyway? Christ, you're persistant."

"I have questions alright, but none you can answer," Steven replied to Sarah's question. He looked at the drunk chinaman and regarded him with disgust. "A fine soldier you will be," he said spitefully, after which he marched out of the library with an angry haste. Coming here was a mistake.

Silva slowly lowered his borrowed M4 Carbine. The target ahead of him was peppered solidly with bullets. It had holes in just about every part of his body, just like Silva had aimed for. If you had to shoot a super, you might not be able to hit some parts of him, but other parts could be completely vulnerable. The common thought that a bullet could be melted by enough heat before it even hit a super was totally bullshit. That would require a flame hotter than five hundred degrees. Centigrade. That's how hot a tracer round burned. An incendiary round was even hotter.

Turning away from the firing range, Silva placed the M4 into his bag along with his Sniper Rifle and a, borrowed, Barrett .50 caliber sniper rifle. The most accurate, and deadly, sniper rifle currently in existence. Silva was a crack shot, as it was one of the choice weapons of the Marine Corps Scout/Sniper units. A few clips for each littered the bottom of the bag, just on top of his clothes.

Zipping the bag closed, Silva turned and walked to the Sergeants office, where he got the automated message that she was in the library. Figuring she wanted to be left alone, Silva went to his room, placed his bag on his bed of choice, and walked back to the bar. He figured that there would be somebody there who was interesting to talk to if they were drunk enough.

Earl was too appalled by the general raucous, unappreciative attitude shown by those in the bar, so instead of playing, he sat moodily in a corner eating homemade jambalaya he had packed and brought with him. When Silva entered the room, Earl stood up and walked over, recognizing a more professional-looking figure. "I don't believe we've met before," he said. "Have you been caught up in all this too?"

Silva sat down and ordered damn big beer, draining half of it with a single gulp. Then he wrinkled his nose, looked at his shirt, sniffed it, and swore quietly. The damn thing smelled like gunsmoke now, after a few hundred rounds his nice pair of Marine Corps Greens smelled like gunsmoke. Great. That done, he glanced over at the guy who started talking to him.

"Yeah, Name's Silva. I was recruited 'cuz I snipe. You?"

Sitting across the table from Silva, Earl replied after another laugh. "Me? I was bored. Who wants to listen to music when you could watch some big damn hero save the world? Name's Earl Ellington, by the way."

He then took a his cup of coffee.

Silva snorted.

"I'll drink to that Earl. Save the world indeed."

He took another sip of his beer, and sat back enjoying the atmosphere for a bit. He missed his days in the Corps, but he'd decided to get out and make some money in the private sector while he still could. Of course, a roadside IED that had taken some damn good men from his squad en route to Baghdad had helped reinforce his decision.

Silva took another sip, then heard the comment made by Daniel. He put down his beer very slowly, then turned to face him.

"I'm sorry, what? Look buddy, I'm no police pussy who waits for some damn super. I sniped with the best of the fucking best. UMSC Scout Snipers. We don't do hostage negotiations. We shoot to kill the second we have target confirmed. And we never, ever miss. We give the bad guys nightmares."

"Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" John said cryptically before sitting down ordering a pint. "I suppose it is our job to outdo them, rather than guard the other heroes, but it could be taken both ways could it not?" John nodded a thanks as his pint arrived, sipping it he looked at the others, "John Whitewolf" He introduced himself "I would say Professor of Ancient mythology but some Super Villain went and ruined that. Still, probably the groups expert in the Ancient and Computers, the basic parts of them anyway."

"Nightmares, eh?" Ashleigh walked into the room, all smiles, genuine ones found usually on dolls and the dead, leaning slightly on his umbrella. "I'll be the first to admit that, when I lived in Saudi Arabia, the Arabs, from Jordan to Oman, would often complain about nightmares, but those come from Shaitan, not Marines." Ashleigh had a drink in his hands, iced tea with no sugar, and was sipping at it casually. He had heard the talking and wanted to get to know the others, hoping to find some solid friends and many reliable teammates.

"Not to say that I doubt your skills. Many of the Marines I met at the American embassies were fine men and women, all highly skillful and I trust you are equal to all of them." Raising his umbrella and taking a fighting stance for canne de combat, he continued, "But," his smile grew wider, "As skillful with a rifle you may be, I highly doubt your melee skills can best someone trained such as I. I would make a contest with you; A spar with myself, and a shooting contest with you. Same weapons, same rules. It will be fun, yes?"

Daniel snorted this time " It wasn't disrespect, grunty, quite the opposite. Shrugging as he turned and left the room, the Drunken Master would wander around for a bit: listlessly entering rooms and then leaving after a short period of observation. This routine of entrance, observation, and then exit continued on for another 15 minutes before Xi Feng found himself in the bar along with several of the other recruits. Looking them over quickly, he went to the wide liquor shelf behind the main bar and pilfered through it, stopping when he came to the locker's fine selection of Chinese Sake. Producing a long-necked bottle of white enamel, he grabbed a shot glass of the same material and poured out a measure of the slightly tan liquid, drinking it swiftly. This process was repeated several times: the Drunken Master living up to the former part of his name.

After putting his things in his room and hiding some more incriminating things, like explosives he had secretly smuggled in, Rodney Ballard went to the bar. He wasn't going to drink - he valued keeping a straight head more than a hangover - but he might have a bite to eat. When he walked in, he overheard someone talk about how they could kill a large werewolf up close without a scratch. Thinking that the conversation would be interesting, Rodney walked over to them and sat down silently.
