The Walking Plague (IC)

Postby Soviet Ruk-Tsan » Thu Oct 11, 2012 12:28 am

(This is the In Character thread for The Walking Plague, OOC is here. I will be posting as the international news, talking about happenings in random countries and commenting on some player moves.)

Two days ago, a team of Chinese archaeologists disappeared while opening the tomb of the first Chinese Emperor. The Chinese government has mainly kept quiet about this accident, but has promised to find the team, sending special forces squads in to the area. The government has asked that anyone in the area who sees any of the team, to alert the nearest special forces unit immediately.

In response to the finding of the tomb, a group of Austrian archaeologists hired by the government of Austria were sent to China to explore the tomb and bring back the artifacts to Austria to be put in Austrian museums. Upon arriving to the location, without alerting the Chinese government, they snuck into the tomb and documented it. However they were attacked by what they thought were "Monsters" and all but one were killed. The one survivor fled back to Austria on their plane, where they were described as "Zombies". The Austrian government sensed it would be important, so they sent a telegram showing the details of the report to the Chinese and published the deaths in the national media.

In the DRC, the news of dead Austrians and Chinese archaeologists meant nothing. It was half a world away, and the far-fetched news of cannibals hiding undergound was hard to believe, and the Congolese had a group of people who hunted and ate pygmies over mining rights. Of course, even if the event was much more grand, the DRC still probably wouldn't care, with all the diseases and rebel groups ransacking the population. The number of insurgents acting in the country was third, with the number of diseases in second and the number of deaths in first. The only reason the Congolese government had to worry about the infection was loss of UN Peacekeepers in the area, but even that was a minor concern.
Of course, what the government didn't realize was that these 'cannibals hiding underground' would soon be on their doorstep, and sooner than anyone could imagine.
I'll respond to a lot of titles, but I preferred to go by Forest.

Unless stated otherwise, I have disowned all of the posts, both in and out of character, that I made years ago. I would like to think that both my real, out-of-character behavior and my in-character role-playing skills have matured.

Few, if any Albanians are aware of the archaologist's demise, those that are mostly give it little thought and life continues on as usual, children go to school, adults go to work.
According to the government, the crime rate in the cities are increasing slightly, causing increased police patrols but nothing too serious. The Albanian army are currently on drill's in the north and east of the country, yesterday President Nishani left to Greece on official business, but no word on what they were for as of yet

'The German government expresses sadness at the loss of the Austrian archaeologists. it also wants to make clear that any help required is being offered for the safe recovery of the archaeologists'. The news was largely missed however. In Germany the main news was the financial crisis abroad, and this was seen as an attempt to charm the Chinese into releasing more capital.

Today, a small Chinese village has been destroyed, by what the Chinese government claim to be guerrilla rebels. Several military units have been deployed in the area, and the nearest villages have been evacuated.

In Argentina today, a riot broke out in a football stadium in Buenos Aires, and police units have been sent in to break it up. Although casualties have not been reported, it is believed there have been deaths.

OOC:I'll assume my Iran app was accepted.
IC:In the Islamic Republic of Iran, news spread of the deaths across China and Argentina. The government spread much publication of the deaths and rumors of "Monsters" from China came out. The Iranians, beliving that the deaths were due to evil monsters sent by God, began widespread protests calling on the Chinese to destroy the monsters.

In Tehran, the biggest protest happened. Hundreds of thousands marched and yelled against the Chinese, and blaming them for a potential crisis, saying things like "مرگ بر چین و تفاله چینی آنها اجازه می دهد هیولا به پرسه زدن در جهان!شنیدن کلمات چینی کافران، کشتن هیولا!جلوگیری از انجام گناه، جلوگیری از آوردن هیولا بیشتر، جنگهای صلیبی در برابر شر!", and the prostests were widely published in the news. The Iranian government, forseeing a crisis, even denounced the Chinese government calling them "کافران شر", and they warned the world that China was trying to destroy them.

The Albanian government, upon the Iranian anarchy has started to issue the police officers with handguns instead of batons, according to a government minister to keep order, the public's reaction to this is almost universally positive.
The president arrived back from Greece and is expected to make a press conference soon, and the military exercises are continuing without incident.
